Beware

By Kathleen T., Illinois, Verified Reviewer

Once you cancel you still get billed, even when you are no longer using their services. I have been billed and billed, it's crazy. I have not ordered anything in 6 months and every month they try and bill me. This company takes advantage of hard-working Americans.

This company has been deducting money from my account for months. I have not received any items and I don’t want to. Please check because you owe me a lot of money. Thanks?

Not as advertised

By Barbara G., Cheyenne, WY, Verified Reviewer

Regretfully I am very busy and pay the almost $80.00 for two pieces of clothes I have had for over one year. It was confusing what you get...I was not even able to get a full outfit, but a skirt and dress. This is the first follow up. I will be sending it back (though I more than paid for it multiple times) and CANCEL my subscription. It is almost impossible to effectively cancel.

SCAM

By Dianna W., Texas, Verified Reviewer

I decided to give them a look and went to the website where apparently I inadvertently signed up! However, I never ordered/received anything. Now I find out they have been charging my card for 9 months. While it's my fault for not noticing before 9 months, I still feel like this was done intentionally and is definitely an unsavory business practice. They did offer a partial refund and a sort of apology. JUST BEWARE!

Poor customer service.

By Shawna T., Bloomington, IN, Verified Reviewer

Your customer service is poor and giving feedback has a time limit. Example - a complaint is immediately closed with only 24 hours to leave feedback. The fact that a member can’t cancel service online is a scam. I am not happy with your service and will be canceling on my next day off. Sad that I have to wait and spend time on the phone in order to cancel.

This company is total crap

By Kathryn M., Ohio, Verified Reviewer

Not only is the cost per month ridiculously high, many of the clothes come with defects and holes. Assuming they come at all. I HATE that you cannot cancel online, but you can sign up online. When you try to call in, you get the runaround and they try to pressure you into staying.

Horrible company

By Ashley P., Fruita, CO, Verified Reviewer

I canceled my subscription last September and they've been charging me monthly ever since. When I discovered this on my bank statements, I called for a refund - they REFUSE to refund me. That's hundreds of dollars in stolen money. I opened up a complaint with my credit card company but they can only go back 60 days. Beware of giving this company your credit card number - they will not honor your cancellation.

Worn Out Clothes, Over-Priced

By Phyllis Simpson , Barnegat, NJ

I tried Gwynnie Bee for about six months. I had the three garment option. I found that the clothes were either poor quality or worn out. I would say the quality of the clothes is on par with what you would find at Target. I think it's cheaper to spend $80 on three garments from Target every month. It's nearly impossible to get clothes that fit the season. You add clothes in your virtual closet and they send you what is available out of that list. Clothes were usually faded or had extensive pilling. They do make exchanging clothes easy by sending you pre addressed packaging. You indicate in your account that clothes are on their way back, and they send you more items from your list. If you like something that they give you and would like to keep it, you can purchase it, but you are basically buying used clothes at a new clothes price. I did have a problem with them trying to charge me for a shirt I had returned when I canceled my subscription. It took about two months to straighten out, but finally, they got it right.

Bottom line, it's a novel concept and is easy, but they really have to have better quality clothes, more quantity, and they need to stop re-circulating garments once they get too worn. Not worth the money.

Very Poor Styles

By Rebecca Coomes, Owensboro, KY, Verified Reviewer

I am a 16/18 and while not terribly overweight I DO know what styles and patterns are unflattering for the overweight. It is simply common knowledge, (and common sense), that overweight women need to avoid horizontal stripes. They simply make the large look larger. Gwynnie Bee's selections are rife with these. The horizontal stripe patterns outnumber the vertical and diagonal by about 4-1. Ladies with very large upper arms are better served with mid upper arm length sleeves at the very least. Gwinnie Bee's selections for summer are almost overwhelmingly sleeveless.

Overweight ladies' knees often tend to be trouble spots, but it is next to impossible to find a single dress or skirt at the service that is not short and above the knees. A few maxi dresses and skirts are the only other options. Big scoop necks also make the heavy look heavier. Again, Gwynnie Bee is rife with these, Next to impossible to find the slimming V-necks heavy women should wear. It seems to me that the designers at Gwynnie Bee are utterly CLUELESS about styling and fashion for the larger sizes. Or maybe they are catering to a number of heavier women who do not care what other people think, they want to wear what skinny girls wear, regardless of how unattractive or even outlandish they may look. If that is the case, FINE, stock those clothes for women who want to wear skinny girl styles. But for crying out loud, try stocking some clothing that actually is FLATTERING to the overweight.

There ARE gorgeous, trendy, young, and flattering styles out there for heavier women. Until GB can get around to doing that I would not recommend this service and also would hold off until they quit using USPS and went to faster shipping methods.

Not great

By Ruby, Verified Reviewer

I've used Gwynnie Bee for about a year now. As someone in the process of losing weight, it's been invaluable. I've been able to have nice clothes to wear without having to buy them in new sizes all the time. HOWEVER, I do not think it is worth the money. I buy the three items per month plan for about $90. Even with being religious about pre-notifying them of returns, I'm lucky if I get nine items in a month, so I'm essentially paying $10 for each item I wear. Which is an awful deal.

They're just ridiculously slow to ship out new items, which I suppose serves them well, but it sucks for their customers. And it's not that I don't have enough items in my closet for them to choose from. I pretty much always have over 600 items closeted. So anyway, they basically milk you for all that they can while slowly trickling clothes out to you. Not a good value at all.

Also, when you cancel, you forfeit any remaining days of your membership. So say your membership renews on the 30th and you cancel on the 15th. You pay for that whole month but only get half a month. It's a complete rip-off.

Nice for selection of dresses, but not transparent

By Sandra Sanders, Phoenix, AZ, Verified Reviewer

I was a member of Gwynnie Bee for about nine months, receiving two items at a time. During that time, I found many dresses that I liked and bought, as well as a few tops. It was really nice to have a selection of clothes in plus sizes, plus reviews by others who had tried them before me. For that reason, I think the membership was worthwhile. I recently stopped my membership because there just weren't enough items other than dresses that I was interested in trying, and I had fully stocked my dress needs.

Unlike some other reports I read, I had no problem canceling my membership. I suspect that it may be because I had been a member for a significant period of time, so they got the money they needed to out of me.

My primary concern with the system is the complete lack of transparency on pricing for membership or the clothes. On the day my membership ended, I called to purchase one of the dresses that I still had at home. Although they tout deep discounts on the clothes, I never found them to be much different, and sometimes even more expensive than other stores.

However, I was surprised to learn that she was unable to quote me the member price (I was considering renewing for one more month if the discount was significant) because apparently individual members are quoted different prices for the same items. The customer service rep (who was very nice) explained that a members' price depends upon all kinds of criteria, including how long you have been a member, whether you have ever had a return or payment "discrepancy," etc. Since that pricing criteria is not transparent to members, I assume you never get any opportunity to challenge anything that they deem a "discrepancy." I also don't know if I ever had one.

I do not dispute Gwynnie Bee's right to price their clothes however they would like. However, failing to disclose that I may be paying a "member price" up to 30% more than another member is simply deceitful. Even when I am interested in stocking my closet again, I won't consider Gwynnie Bee an option for that reason.

Decline in quality and service over the past year

By Lora N., Austin, TX, Verified Reviewer

I’ve been with Gwynnie Bee for about five years now and it’s totally helped transform me into a budget-friendly fashionista. But over the past year, I’ve seen a hefty decline in my overall experience and will probably be closing my account soon.

The style and quality of clothes have not been as appealing to me. At first, I thought it might be the season or the styles that were popular at the time, but after a year I am still feeling this way. I can barely keep 25 items in my closet that I’m interested in, let alone 30-35 as GB requests. I used to love so many of my dresses that I purchased way too many of them. Now I’m lucky if I even end up actually wearing one of the five that are sent to me.

The turnaround has also gotten noticeably slower. What used to be 4-5 days has turned into 5-7. I have similar subscription services who have been able to keep up with the faster turn around even as they have expanded as a company.

I just don’t feel like I’m getting my money’s worth.

Decline over time

By Nain N., Washington DC, Verified Reviewer

GB is not as good as it used to be. Prices rose and service declined. I am constantly sending clothes back, and I consistently wait a week for clothes to ship after previous items have been deleted from my closet. And that is if they delete from the closet. I have to take pictures of the tracking number before mailing because you don't allow customers to see the history of tracking numbers in the app. And I have to keep the numbers because on a nearly monthly basis items aren't deleted that have been long sent and received. And don't get me started on the remote support. If I were joining now at the current prices, I wouldn't do it.

Service has gone woefully down!

By Andrea S., Stamford, CT, Verified Reviewer

When I first started subscribing, I couldn’t have been happier with the clothing, options, and when I needed customer service.

Recently I’ve had delayed orders, clothes that were clearly worn and not washed as they wreaked of perfume, and I’ve requested a call from a supervisor three times and am still waiting; that was 3 months ago.

I am reviewing other options.

Once was good, now is EH

By Karen W., Jacksonville, FL, Verified Reviewer

The price is not supportive of the service and product any longer. Turn is slow and choices are lacking. While it is good to find new products some brands are overpriced for quality. I have been a member off and on for five years and currently considering canceling.

Online website issues

By Kim P., Greensboro, NC, Verified Reviewer

Not good. I am still having problems seeing anything online. This has been going since April 4th. I don't understand why they can't just reset my whole account? They should not charge me for this service since I cannot make any changes. I cannot add anything or remove items from my closet. I am very upset that this is still going on. It is now April 19th.

Inconsistent

By Danielle B, Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

I wasn't greatly impressed with Gwynnie Bee. After three months of service, I canceled my account due to the lack of clothing. Anything that was remotely attractive was always unavailable.

Most of the clothing I did receive was really worn and cheaply made. Specifically, the tops.

The service itself is too expensive for the quality you're receiving. I signed up for the one item a month plan, which I believe is advertised as $39, but each month I was billed $52.40. When I asked why, I was told that there had been a price increase, however, I was never informed of such.

I didn't have any problems canceling my service. I called, and they answered within five minutes, canceled my membership, and didn't bill me for anything.

The only saving grace is the dresses. There are tons of styles that are a bit more modern, and the sizing is a bit more consistent. So, if for some reason you attend many events and need evening wear all the time, then yes, I'd recommend this company.

But if you're looking for a nice top or some cool pants, I'd head to H&M instead.

It used to be better

Lately, the clothes aren't really my style. If I didn't have such a great plan price, I'd cancel. I have been with them for 4 years. Hoping they start getting in some great style and pattern combos again.

Great service for plus sized women, but not Misses size

By Laura C., New Hope, AL, Verified Reviewer

I thought the service was outstanding when I wore Plus sized clothes. However, after I had weight loss surgery, I found the size calculator was not responsive to my change in sizes. I’ve also noticed that there is not much offered in the size 10 to 12 range, which is my current size range. I’ve also noticed there is not a large variety of styles or fabrics. The patterns and colors have a great variety, but all the dresses are of similar style and fabric. Overall, I still recommend the service for my plus size friends and family, but the service is no longer meeting my personal needs.

Materials and patterns

By Amy F., Fort Collins, CO, Verified Reviewer

I have been a loyal customer for quite some time now. I am finding that less and less of the items I rent are quality items. The material and patterns are dated. They look good in photos, but when they arrive, it’s nothing I would have touched in a store. I’m debating leaving. But I have enjoyed a large selection they've provided over the years. Thank you.

Great if you love dresses...

By Lisa S., Illinois, Verified Reviewer

GB is a great mail order service for the most part. I am soon to leave it. I prioritize lots of looks I want to try but what is shipped to me is literally the same all the time...dress, dress, dress. I get cute dresses but yet it’s just dresses for the most part. I am a professional that lives in the Midwest I need more variety than dresses. Thus, my dissatisfaction. Otherwise, it’s a great service if you want to try out different styles and colors that you wouldn’t normally buy. Also, I was not pleased when a selective service for plus size attire, was opened to everyone. I know it’s a money thing, but it was nice to feel special.

Fun but can be frustrating too

By Anne S., Louisiana, Verified Reviewer

In general, I love the concept of Gwynnie Bee. It's great to have the items mailed to you, and fun to try new fashions. Lots of options and it definitely cuts down on laundry. My issue is the challenge with sizing. I rarely get items that fit well, so I often feel like I am wasting my money. I wish there was a better way to help those of us who are between sizes.

In the middle

By Beverly K., Dundee, OH, Verified Reviewer

Sometimes items are spot on and other times I'm not sure who would wear the clothing minus a circus clown. There have been outfits that I've loved, but they smell terrible, like they were worn at a greasy pizza place or a smoky bar. I would really like to see a "swatch" picture - a close of up the fabric to give me a better idea of what something is before I closet it.

Borderline annoying

By Sara H., Germantown, MD, Verified Reviewer

I am constantly frustrated by the quality and lack of selection. They demand you have 12 items in your closet at one time, but unless you wear unflattering dresses, there is little to choose from. I have tried so hard to find 12 items, but there is nothing.

For a company that specializes in plus sizes, it's incredible to me how poor their styling/buying must be.

For example, try to find a long cardigan in a range of colors. Doesn't exist. Try to find a long tunic that you'd wear to work. Nope.

They need to aggressively start catering to the working plus size girl. One that doesn't want her rear showing at work or doesn't want to wear some ridiculous floral dress.

Great concept but delivery of clothes needs improvement

By Connie L., Fredericksburg, VA, Verified Reviewer

I've been a Gwynnie Bee customer for at least 4 years now. Obviously there are some pros if I've been with them this long.

I love the fact that I can get clothes to wear them once or twice and send them back without having to commit to a purchase. I also really like that I'm between sizes, so it makes it easy to go up and down in sizes. They also have a wide variety of styles and sizes to pick from.

You are sent at least one postage paid return bag with your box of clothes, sometimes two depending on how many pieces you have. This is so convenient. You can just pop the bag into your mailbox or any mailbox for pickup.

Gwynnie Bee has a really easy to use Mobile App so you can add items to your closet, you can start the return process through the app and scan the return bag they send. This allows them to start your next order before they receive it.

So why am I only rating them a 3?

Well, here are the cons:

Sometimes the pieces of clothing arrive and they have been very worn. Kind of stretched out or there is a lot of pilling on the material. Sometimes there is an odor to them. I'm not sure if it's from the previous wearer or the cleaning agent. Maybe it's the material.

It seems here lately that it's taking a long time for me to get my clothes. From the time I scan my bag to the time I get my clothes has been on average 7 to 10 days lately. There have been other times I get my clothes in as little as 4 or 5. It's really disappointing when you wait 7 days or so to get your clothes and you have to send them back immediately because they either don't fit or you just don't like them.

Gwynnie Bee suggests you keep at least 25 to 30 items in your closet, I have at least 40 in mine at all times. The thing I'm noticing is that I'm only getting items I recently closeted, and things I closeted months ago are still just sitting there.

I keep my subscription going because I'm grandfathered into a price from years ago, so it's worth it to me as a working woman to always have a variety of things I can wear. I wear dresses now and I hardly ever wore them before because I never wanted to spend the money to wear something only once or twice.

I continue to recommend Gwynnie Bee to people who compliment me on my clothes and ask where I got them. It's not for everyone, but it's definitely worth a try. You are not going to love every piece you get. But it allows you to go outside your comfort zone. With the wide range of brands, not every size fits the same, but Gwynnie Bee has charts to help you decide what to pick. If they could nail down getting the clothes out quicker, and maybe step up quality control a bit more, I would rate a 5.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Cute items but takes forever

By Michelle K., Germantown, MD, Verified Reviewer

I always receive cute things from Gwynnie Bee and I get a lot of compliments at work. The frustrating part of this service is that it takes them so terribly long after returning items to send you new ones. When there is something wrong with a garment (happens frequently), they’ll give you a free item upgrade that lasts 7 days. Depending on your schedule and their ability to get clothes out to you it really isn’t a perk.

I recently returned a box about a week ago. Only yesterday did my next box begin processing. I am considering canceling the service. I have had items in my closet since the fall that have not been sent to me. I don’t think they exist anymore.
