Don't give them your credit card info

By Bryan Williams, New York, NY, Verified Reviewer

I got a Groupon for HelloFresh as a Christmas gift for two weeks. I was inundated with all kinds of emails from HelloFresh about selecting the next week, and skipping a week and rating the food. All designed to throw you off and confuse you. They also sent emails offering your friends two free weeks of food.

At the end of two weeks, I thought I would have the option to continue or not with the meals, but I ended up getting two boxes (four meals) delivered to my house at once and two $59 charges to my bank account. Customer service gave me the crap about it being an automatic subscription, but they messed up and sent me two boxes so they can credit me back for one. Nice scam, so now the got me for $59 and I thought this was going to be just a gift from my daughter.

Do not give up your credit card info unless you know about and agree to their scam.

Stay away from the HelloFresh scam

By James Knapick, Baltimore, MD, Verified Reviewer

My daughter suggested HelloFresh for us to use after my wife got out of the hospital for hip replacement surgery. She used an introductory Groupon coupon that had a $30 rate for three meals for two people. The meals were ok for the price, nothing special, just ok.

The problem is that once they get your credit card information, they keep shipping meals at twice the price and are difficult to stop. Hector in customer service was difficult to understand in English, probably in India, and English was his second language.

Stay away from HelloFresh; it is more of a scam to continue to charge your credit card once they get your information.

Not happy at all!

By Laura Price, Wilkes-Barre, PA, Verified Reviewer

I went on to this website to check out the meal options, in order to do that they ask you to place all your information including your credit card onto the site. After you place all your information in, they then asked you for two emails. I did not want to give emails until I asked friends first so that was the end of it or so I thought.

Today I get an email saying that my order from HelloFresh is on its way (?). An order that is called "Chef's Choice," so I call customer service and the girl was not very nice. She said I received an email to confirm your purchase, which I did not (I checked my delete box and my spam box, nothing). She then said there was a deduction to my bank account and I said I did not see that, and she said I should check my bank account more carefully. I said, "well, please tell me how I know that I placed an order when the website did not say thank you for your order or your order has been placed?" She says it does, I must not have seen it. I said "I know, I would not place an order where your company was picking choices for me because I have many allergies."

So now I have to find someone to give one of these meals away to because I can't eat it! Not happy, and customer service, which I called twice, was not nice.

Disappointed

By Barbara Lakota, New York, NY, Verified Reviewer

Initially, I was pleasantly surprised with the delivery of a neatly organized package of meals that were healthy and easy to prepare.

My first week was a gift, and before I knew it, I was automatically charged for a second week and could not cancel that week since I discovered this after the cancelation deadline. The second week two of our three meals came missing ingredients that required us to go to the store. I might have overlooked being scammed into a second week if I continued to like HelloFresh, but the missing ingredients from TWO meals was ridiculous. What's the point of a home delivery meal preparation kit if some of the ingredients (which of course I paid for, twice) are missing?

A BIG disappointment. Next week we're trying Blue Apron.

The worst ever

By Cristy R Chevalier, New Mexico, Verified Reviewer

They took $216 out of my account for one-week delivery that never got delivered, when they don't even have a box at that price. And I have contacted them multiple times to be told they supposedly can't find the money being taken, even though they have been showed bank statements. I have tried for three weeks to get this resolved with still no luck. They are scam artists. They are the worst company to buy from. I will never suggest someone use this worthless company.

Moldy cheese, wilted produce

By Randy Guthrie, Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

After receiving a pitch in the mail ($20 off each of your first three boxes), I gave HelloFresh a try. My first box contained a package of cheddar cheese that was mostly blue-green from mold and carrots that were so rubbery I could bend them in half. A chat with a rep resulted in a $10 credit, which they refused to apply until my $20 off trial period ended.

So, although they credited me $10 for spoilage, they insisted on treating it as some sort of gift. This may explain their 17% customer retention rate.

Poor customer service

By Taylor Jeffords, Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

I had been a customer of HelloFresh in the past, but for cost reasons had to pause my account. My parents decided to give them a try, and instead of using their three free meal promo code, they gave it to me to use. Nowhere in this email did it say it was only for new customers. When I went to check out, the promo code would not apply, when I called customer service, they said it was for my parents and that since they already got their first box that they wouldn't be able to use in now either. In my eyes, this is poor customer service. Not only would he not help a current long-term customer but he also wouldn't apply the original code for the new customer. I do not recommend them to anyone or family for the mere reason that they did not care about their customers.

Horrible customer service

By Lindsay, Point Pleasant, NJ, Verified Reviewer

The customer service was terrible. I called due to a charge on my credit card. The first week was given to me as a gift, and I was not aware while creating my profile and putting my credit card info that it would automatically be charged week after week. They refused to refund me and would not stop the delivery. I will never order from them again, and the customer service guy treated me like I was stupid.

HelloFresh - goodbye money

By L. Albertson, Jeffersonville, IN, Verified Reviewer

I want to start by saying that I really liked HelloFresh. I found a coupon online for one week at 1/2 price. I got three meals for the price of two. The ingredients were good and the recipes too. However, I will not be returning to HelloFresh.

As I wanted to try other food services, I canceled my account on 3/31 but was billed on 4/2 for an additional box. After trying to sort this out for over an hour, I was told no refund would be given as I had already gotten an email on 3/31 that said it would be getting a box by 4/6. When I asked about this further and checked my email, all it says is:

"Your Classic Box (Classic - 3 meals per week for 2 people) subscription has been cancelled, and your last delivery date is confirmed as Apr 6, 2018. We'll still be in pursuit of deliciousness at its finest, so you know you're always welcome back if you change your mind (fingers crossed)."

As I had not received my first box (the one I actually ordered), I assumed this meant that my box would deliver by 4/6. I know it can take some time to ship things, so I didn't question it. But then I was charged $60 on 4/2 (which I did not see until 4/6) by HelloFresh. As you can imagine, I assumed there was an error. So, I contacted them.

After I was repeatedly told I was in the wrong for not knowing they decided to send me a second box after my cancellation, I was told there would be no refund. Then the person I was chatting with told me to have a "blessed day" and ended our chat.

So, in short, HelloFresh has good food and recipes (though I found that they took longer than the card said, but that was probably just me), but canceling your subscription does not cancel everything. I would suggest you call them to be sure everything is canceled.

If there was a minus star

By Theresa Beun, Ishpeming, MI, Verified Reviewer

This company all in all is horrible, between their website, which is not user-friendly, to unfair compensation. With my first order with them, it came with dripping chicken thigh goo all over the bottom of the package. The beef was swimming in blood, but it was at least sealed. Wilted peppers, etc. The value is ridiculous, for this price I could go to Red Lobster. Their return/compensation is a joke. I had open meat and wilted produce, and instead of replacing it, they said they would give me $20 off my next week purchase! No way, I canceled immediately. Not fresh HelloFresh!

Bad quality and foods WAY overpriced!

By Ignacio O, London, England, Verified Reviewer

Recently they have changed their recipes. Customer service offers ready-made answers to a serious question: the quantity of food delivered does not justify the price. They have changed and before I had issues with the quality (literally sometimes delivering rotten food), and now they send you half the amount and disguise it as "balanced diet." Are you serious? A dish with sausages you need at least two sausages (normal size) per person to call it a meal, not two little small chipolatas. Service is just awful with no real solutions.

NEVER AGAIN. I will not recommend them as you are being food conned!
