Garbage, lazy and useless

By L H., Dallas, TX, Verified Reviewer

Another scam to get you to talk to lazy realtors. I cannot believe how lazy they are. We asked for investors only, but got salespeople who knew NOTHING about our neighborhood, or our market. Jeez...save yourself time and don't call, don't respond. They are succubus and time wasters.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Get ready for the BARRAGE!

By Zeke M., Cincinnati, OH, Verified Reviewer

If you've ever experienced the Lending Tree barrage of hundreds of people contacting you by all means (phone, email, text) when you thought it was a good idea to use the "service" to find a home loan, then you must know that you're into this in spades with HomeLight.

Expect HUNDREDS of contacts beginning within seconds of registering. And remember, real estate agents fall into the same class as USED CAR SALES REPRESENTATIVES.

Terrible experience. Thank God I used a ghost email address and phone number.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Another garbage internet company

I did not sign up on HomeLight, only went on the site to see what it offered. I did give my zip code. Now I get "messages" on my computer from them! And there's no way to get rid of them. I will NEVER use this service or recommend it!

HomeLight test failed

By Paul R., Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

I'm a realtor, had a couple of listings, went to the HomeLight website and clicked on the link that said contact the listing agent for this property. In both cases, as the listing agent, I never received an email from HomeLight stating that I had an interested buyer, or a question from a potential buyer about the property. Also, in both cases, I did receive an email as the potential buyer that said "We have relayed your message and Paul should be reaching out to you soon. If the agent is unavailable, a HomeLight concierge will reach out to you". Which of course is untrue, as the listing agent, I was never contacted by HomeLight, but they did forward emails to the potential buyer stating that they did contact the listing agent, and the listing agent would get back to the potential buyer. I hope that makes sense. I guess my point is that HomeLight does not contact the listing agents, they forward these leads as they see fit. Peace.

HomeLight helped with my home buying

By Thomas H., Tennessee, Verified Reviewer

This service was helpful at first as I didn’t even know how to buy a house. After filling out some info I was immediately contacted by two different agents both claiming to be from HomeLight and worked for Ann Hoke Reality. It was confusing as I didn’t know who to go with so I went with the first agent at the beginning. She showed us two houses and then was done with us. Didn’t even call back untill a month later. The second agent made us sign a contract so we couldn’t get another one (agent) and this agent really only showed us houses that we looked up on Trulia and Zillow. She didn’t do any legwork but did do all necessary paperwork with bids and finally the contract, and closing.

All in, after going through this...the next house I buy, I’m going to do my own research and get a real estate agent of my choosing and one I can let go if I don’t feel they are doing their job. I would suggest this service if you’ve never bought a house and don’t know where to start, but it’s jaded me. I understand HomeLight can’t screen the agents, but they did a good job of putting them in touch with me. I got several calls from agents but only dealt with the first two. It would be a good idea to carefully pick the agent you like.

I don’t know if this helps anyone but it was my experience and I’m in my new home now that I found, myself, and asked her (the agent) to show it to us.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Condescending customer "service"

By Terry D., Danbury, CT, Verified Reviewer

A customer service person whom I will call Zorro called me today while I was in the middle of a particularly difficult problem in my work, and asked if I had yet talked to any of the real estate agents that HomeLight's lead-generation service had referred to me. I was amazed at Zorro's condescending attitude. He:

- Tried to correct the wording of my questions.

- Wouldn't tell me his last name.

- Said he didn't know how much the agents who work with HomeLight pay for their leads, claimed this was immaterial because I didn't have to pay it directly (but of course I do pay at least part of it indirectly, and this, of course, will ultimately influence the sale price of my home), indicated that others in the company would know the answer, but refused to forward me to someone who did.

- Accused me of "interrupting continuously [sic]" when I failed to wait for him to finish explaining things to me that I've known for 30 years.

- Told me I wasn't listening to him (I was).

- At one point said, "Let me tell you how the real estate industry works" (I've been buying and selling real estate since 1979).

- Refused to let me talk to his supervisor.

- Refused to listen to my suggestion that his company revises its online claim that "agents can't pay us to be listed" (I'm paraphrasing), which most readers will misinterpret in a way that constitutes a corporate falsehood on the part of HomeLight.

I must admit that I was unusually blunt in my reactions to Zorro's foolish attitude, but as I've learned from 50 years in business, no matter how angry a customer gets, for the good of my business it is my job to remain polite and de-escalate his or her ire, not to fan the flames. Zack seemed clueless on this account. Maybe he, too, was having a bad day - but he was being paid to maintain a businesslike attitude, and I wasn't.

When I asked Zorro how long he had had his job at HomeLight, he said, "About a year." I suggest that HomeLight look into improving its customer service training.

Terrible service

By Wing L., Selden, NY, Verified Reviewer

HomeLight tries to bribe people into writing good reviews on them. They actually did absolutely nothing to warrant that. So zero stars is what they deserved. Be careful of all the other five stars, those are fake reviews.

Very bad realtor information

By Kimberly Y., Sneedville, TN, Verified Reviewer

I acted as a buyer and completed the info. I got four agents. All of their experience years were incorrect as I know them all. Two of the agents are not even agents in the area, they are over an hour away.

Since some of us use three MLS systems, you can never calculate the real number of sales.

I was just given an award for multi-million dollar sales in my company and have sales far in excess of three of the four agents. I didn’t make the HomeLight list. I live in the area, only one other agent lives in the area.

This is really bad information to the general public! It’s very unfair to hard working agents that are here in the area, have the sales volume and know the area. Anyone buying or selling would not be getting a fair deal. Beware of this website!

Hey Kimberly,

Thanks for the feedback. We definitely would love to look into this for you. Please reach out to us at support@homelight.com so that we can better take a look at your profile and see what we can do.

Our service is completely free to both buyer/sellers, and the only fee for agents is a standard broker to broker fee when a referral actually transacts. Due to this we're always looking to work with the top agents and therefore if your information is not correct, we would most definitely want to get that fixed.

Please note, test leads are often flagged in our system as the can be quite disruptive to our process. Therefore, your results may not be indicative of what a real lead results.

We look forward to hearing from you and looking into this matter further.

HomeLight ignored support request emails

By Chris L., Michigan, Verified Reviewer

I just wanted others to be aware of my experience, buyers and agents alike. I am a Realtor and thought to set up a profile with HomeLight starting back this past January 2019 and looked forward to helping buyers with their home search. Initially, things seemed to be going well and spent quite some time generating the agent profile and uploading my past sales (valuable time I found to be wasted). My first email for support request was answered pretty quickly related to uploading the sales. They mentioned it would take a couple of days for the past sales to be processed and reflected on my public profile. Then when they posted I noticed only a portion of the past sales were displayed with my highest price sales not listed. And it also indicated that I have 105 years of experience (I'm not quite that old). So it appeared the dates on the past listings were wrong. This is when the problems began.

I had put in multiple support requests asking to correct the dates and why my other sales were not being reflected and no response other than an automated email indicating someone would be with me soon. I was actually able to get someone on the phone but they said just put in another support request as the support team is probably busy this time of year and this person couldn't help further. So I did submit another support request...and another...weeks, months went by and no reply (even though I continued to see HomeLight running their commercials continuously on TV). Made me wonder what kind of support are they actually giving their buyer clients. Through this service buyers will not have access to all agents in the area since agents need to sign up and then might not be able to if they experience what I did...so it seems sort of a misrepresentation to buyers if buyers think they'll have access to all agents through this system. I was hoping HomeLight would make this right but it's now 4 months later with no communication and no corrections to my profile.

Anyway, I wish all the other home buyers and agents out there good luck!

Disappointing...not as advertised!

By Gwenda C., Tennessee, Verified Reviewer

A few weeks ago I sent my contact info to HomeLight, with the anticipation that I would receive a list of top-selling realtors in my area. I did this after seeing a commercial on TV. However, rather than sending me the listing of realtors, my contact information was sent out to a broad network of realtors, who immediately started calling me and sending e-mails. One e-mail I received was very disturbing because it contained some personal information that possibly could be dangerous to me. My phone continues to ring with realtors calling; and, it has gotten to the point that I don't want to answer the phone. My experience was not positive; and, I would caution people before submitting information to this site. It is not as advertised!

Hi Gwenda, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are very sorry to hear about the bad experience you had. We connect 2 to 3 agents per client and only share your information with those specific agents after they make an initial connection with you on our recorded line for quality purposes. The reason for this to give you the option to choose which agent you would like to work with overall, as an effort to make this not an overwhelming process for clients. We would be happy to remove you from our system. Please send an email to support@homelight.com, so that we may unsubscribe you from any further contact. Thank you again for your review, and we look forward to hearing from you so that we may resolve this issue.
