About Insanity Max: 30
As Shaun T’s newest fitness program, Insanity Max: 30 is claimed to help you get in the best shape of your life over the course of 60 days, without the need for weights or equipment, in just 30 minutes per day.
In order to help you achieve this lofty goal, Insanity Max: 30 is claimed to feature 160 all new moves, along with low-impact modifiers for each, that make you push yourself to the limit while gaining the lean, shredded, insanely ripped body you’ve always wanted. In fact, the program’s website claims that Insanity Max: 30 is so tough that Shaun T spent months just trying to figure out a way to get viewers through it.
How Does Insanity Max: 30 Claim to Work?
If pushing your limits sounds like your cup tea, Insanity Max: 30 includes 12, 30-minute cardio and tabata strength workouts across 10 different DVDs, all of which share the same fairly straightforward premise: During each workout, you’ll push yourself as hard as you can for as long as you can. Once you’ve reached your limit, you’ll note your “max out” time, and then try to extend this time the following week, even if just by a little bit.
With this said, here are the workouts included in the Insanity Max: 30 program:
- Cardio Challenge – A 30-minute cardio workout designed to be the hardest you’ve ever tried.
- Sweat Intervals – “Screaming, sweating, calorie scorching madness.”
- Tabata Power – 20 seconds on, 10 seconds off tabata strength training exercises.
- Tabata Strength – Similar to Tabata Power, but without any breaks.
- Friday Fight: Round 1 – Push yourself as long as possible before maxing out.
- Max Out Cardio – Cardio exercises combined with power moves that may be “the craziest cardio workout you’ve ever tried.”
- Max Out Sweat – Maximizes the number of calories you can burn, so you’ll want to go as long as possible before maxing out.
- Max Out Power – Similar to Tabata Power from Month 1, but with longer 45 seconds on, 15 seconds off intervals.
- Max Out Strength – 45 seconds on, 15 seconds off intervals that focus on your arms, shoulders, chest, and core.
- Friday Fight: Round 2 – Similar to Round 1, but even harder. How long can you last?
According to the program’s website, Insanity Max: 30 will work for anyone (although it’s considered Shaun T’s most powerful fitness program to date), and it’s possible to lose 30 pounds or more over the 60-day course.
Ok, so maybe you decided to start your New Year’s resolution a little late. Whatever your reason is though, the important question is: Can you expect Insanity Max: 30 to help you get the body you’ve always wanted, or will it just be collecting dust a couple weeks from now? Consider the following:
Who Can Benefit Most From Insanity Max: 30?
As we learned in our 10-Week Focus T25 Challenge (and as noted on WeightToMaintain.com as well), the intense exercises found in Shaun T programs seem to be generally better suited toward individuals who are already in fairly decent shape, but who are just looking to really make their muscle tone “pop” and/or take their fitness to the next level. But why?
Moves May be Difficult
During our Focus T25 Challenge, even the participant who was already fit found many of the moves difficult to perform. And even though the program claimed to include alternate moves, this was not always the case, which ultimately led to quite a bit of frustration. After all, if you can’t do the moves or follow along, it can have a big impact on your motivation, even after just a couple days. Granted, all of these may not necessarily apply to Insanity Max: 30, but it’s something to keep in mind nonetheless.
May Not be Ideal For Weight Loss
On top of this, neither Challenge participant lost more than a few pounds over the course of 10 weeks, although both felt their fitness improved a great deal, and that their muscle tone was more defined (even if slightly). As such, programs like Focus T25 and Insanity Max: 30 may not be ideal if you’re looking to lose weight.
Mind Your Nutrition
However, whether your goal is to lose weight or achieve a ripped physique, keep in mind that your results are as dependent on what you eat as how often (or how intensely) you work out. To this end, the Insanity Max: 30 program does claim to include nutrition and cooking guides, although they may not be sufficient to meet all your nutrition needs.
Finally, whether you’re already in decent shape or not, at-home fitness programs such as Insanity Max: 30 should only be used by self-motivated individuals. This is because, even though the workouts are only 30 minutes long, they’re extremely intense, and it can take some mental fortitude to keep doing them day in and day out.
What Is Tabata Training?
You may not have heard of tabata before, so let’s take a quick look at what it is.
According to Bodybuilding.com, tabata was developed by a Japanese scientist to provide aerobic and anaerobic benefits, and is “one of the most popular forms of high-intensity interval training (HIIT). It consists of eight rounds of ultra-high-intensity exercises in a specific 20-seconds-on, 10-seconds-off interval. It may only take four minutes to complete a Tabata circuit, but those four minutes may well push your body to its absolute limit.”
As you can see, there is a close correlation between tabata and the primary benefits associated with Insanity Max: 30.
Consumers Appear Pleased with Insanity Max: 30
Overall, Insanity Max: 30 appears to have a very positive online customer reputation, with nearly 4.5 stars on Amazon.com (as of 1/26/15). Some of the most common compliments appear to reference its effective (although intense) workouts, the ability to workout in just 30 minutes, and the easily visible modifiers. In fact, more than one reviewer claimed that Insanity Max: 30 was their favorite Beachbody program to date, over Insanity, P90X3, and Focus T25.
With this said, some of the most common complaints related to Insanity Max: 30 referenced slightly different recreations of Shaun T’s older moves and ineffective workouts.
Important note: Although we didn’t find any mention of this related to Insanity Max: 30, one of the most common complaints for Focus T25 was that there were actually more required workouts than advertised by the manufacturer. So keep this in mind before placing your order.
From a company perspective, Beachbody, LLC based out of Santa Monica, CA holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, despite having more than 230 closed complaints. Among these, the most common appear to be related to recurring charges (e.g. autoship program enrollments).

Insanity Max: 30 is priced at 3 monthly payments of $39.95 plus $19.95 S&H, or one single payment of $139.80.

Important note: When checking out on the Beachbody website, keep a sharp eye out for upgrades and enrollments in autoship programs. If you’re not careful, you could end up spending way more money than you originally intended.

Can Insanity Max: 30 Give You the Best Fitness Results of Your Life?
Chopping to the Point: When it comes down to it, fitness programs are a highly personal purchasing decision. In other words, even between 2 people of similar fitness levels, one might find Insanity Max: 30 to be the epitome of exercise videos, while another may find it to be completely worthless. Luckily, if you decide to give the program a try, it comes with a 30-day refund policy, although you will be out S&H charges.
With this said, it seems (and many online consumers might agree) that Insanity Max: 30 is a “middle ground” between the full-fledged Insanity program and Focus T25. As such, if you found Insanity too tough but Focus T25 too mild, Insanity Max: 30 might provide you with the best of both worlds.

It's a great workout if you only have 40 pounds to burn and tone. I love it. For the first time in a while, I have a booty.
