About InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia
Made from 100% premium grade garcinia cambogia extract, InstaSlim’s Garcinia Cambogia supplement promises to control your appetite and block fat production, without any fillers, binders, or chemical additives. How’s it work?
According to the supplement’s website, InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia suppresses appetite for emotional eaters, while preventing craving and binge eating. And when you eat excess carbohydrates, we’re told it will help prevent them from turning into fat.
All InstaSlim Garcinia capsules are produced in the company’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) certified lab using safe, natural ingredients, with the clinically tested dose of 60% hydroxycitric acid.
You’re here for some answers. So, in this article, we’ll focus on answering one key question: Is InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia—or any garcinia cambogia supplement, for that matter—really a “simply fast way to lose the weight”?
Let’s start off by taking a look at fat; or more accurately, how it accumulates in your body.
How & Why Does the Body Store Fat?
Once our body breaks down the macronutrients (protein, fat, carbohydrate) we eat, they’re turned into the basic building blocks of amino acids, fatty acids, or glucose. These can then be used for various fundamental processes around the body, including the creation of energy.
Now, if we eat an excessive amount of these substances but our body doesn’t need them, they get turned into fat and stored inside specialized cells called adipocytes for later use.
If this excess food intake continues long enough, these fat cells can accumulate to a point where they press against (and even expand) the skin, creating unsightly bulges.
With this basic process in mind, how does InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia promise to help?
How Does Garcinia Cambogia Work?
A lot of attention has been focused on garcinia cambogia over the last few years, which seems to have largely originated from its appearance on the Dr. Oz show back in 2012. There, the host told his audience that the ingredient worked like “magic” to help individuals lose weight, without restrictive diets or exercise programs.
This is because, according to a handful of studies, the hydroxycitric acid (HCA) contained in the rind of the garcinia cambogia fruit (InstaSlim or otherwise) can prevent citrate lyase from converting glucose into fat. Some of these studies also indicate it can help suppress appetite and even mood by boosting serotonin production.
As we outlined in The Truth About Garcinia Cambogia, authoritative sites like WebMD and PubMed indicate that there’s little clinical evidence directly relating these effects—which have largely only been studied in vitro and mice—to meaningful or sustained weight loss in humans.
In a best-case scenario, based on what Dr. Oz’s audience participation study revealed in 2012, it’s unlikely to contribute to more than a couple of pounds lost. Even then, not a lot of details were provided by the show about the parameters of their study, which makes us wonder (as consumers ourselves) if this loss could be linked directly to garcinia cambogia supplementation and not another factor.
Nonetheless, if you were to experience something similar to Dr. Oz’s average study participant, what does this work out to on a price-per-pound when it comes to InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia?
How Much Does InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia Cost?
While InstaSlim’s $4.95 initial cost might seem ridiculously low, keep in mind that according to their Terms and the text underneath their ordering screen, this a) only covers S&H and b) begins your 18-day trial (plus two days to account for transit time).
What happens then?
The short story is that 20 days after placing your order, you’ll be charged the full price of $83.98 for the 30-day supply you already received. Through the company’s autoship program, you’ll also continue receiving new shipments once per month and charged $83.98 each time.
If you lost 2-3 extra pounds over the course of a month, this would work out to about $30 per pound. Sounds reasonable, right? Perhaps.
But again, it’s worth reiterating that, according to PubMed as of 4/14/17, there were 38 published studies looking at the relationship between garcinia cambogia and weight loss. None of these found a positive correlation.
Note: We encountered one manufacturer-conducted study that found, among the 102 participants, those who took their proprietary formulation of “Garcinia cambogia, Camellia sinensis, unroasted Coffea arabica, and Lagerstroemia speciosa” experienced greater weight and fat loss than those who didn’t. No additional relevant details were provided.
If you feel like giving InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia a try, the supplement’s website indicates it comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. Per their Terms, though, "we do not provide a refund for any shipments made after the trial shipment.”
In other words, you’ll need to figure out if you’re satisfied within the first 30 days, or it appears you’ll lose your ability to obtain a refund. Customer service can be reached at 888-586-0826 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Granted, everything we’ve discussed so far is based on what we’ve learned researching many popular garcinia cambogia formulations and reading what a selection of authoritative sites had to say. We’re certainly not medical professionals ourselves.
But what can we learn from InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia’s direct customer reviews?
Are There Any Online Reviews For InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia?
Searching online for “InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia reviews,” we didn’t find any direct customer feedback at the time of our research.
However, related results appeared for “InstaSlim Forskolin” and “Garcinia and Apple Cider,” so it appears the manufacturer, based out of St. Petersburg, FL, makes more than one supplement. These also didn’t feature any reviews.
Not only has the HighYa team written several articles about garcinia cambogia, but we’ve also investigated more than three dozen garcinia cambogia supplements to date. Many of these made the same claims as InstaSlim’s formulations and sold their supplements only through “free” trials pricing models.
Among these, they had an average reader rating of about two stars at the time of our research. In general, most complaints seemed related to difficulty canceling trials and less-than-stellar customer support experiences.
Are we saying this is what you’ll experience with InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia? Definitely not. But we also think you deserve a look at the complete picture, in order to make the most informed decision possible.
Given all these different options, how can you pick the best one for your needs?
How Can You Choose the Right Garcinia Cambogia Supplement?
Obviously, everyone has different needs and preferences. But in general, as outlined in our Garcinia Cambogia Buying Tips article, there are three things to keep in mind if you’re planning to hand over your money:
- First, based on everything we’ve discussed so far, it’s important to understand that it might not work. Clinical evidence aside, we all have different reactions to different substances, so there’s a distinct possibility it won’t deliver.
- Second, look for supplements that contain at least 60% HCA and no additional ingredients (especially calcium, which could decrease its potential effectiveness).
- Finally, based on the common customer complaints surrounding autoship programs, such as difficulty canceling and less-than-stellar customer support experiences, it might be best to avoid manufacturers that only sell their supplements through autoship programs.
Taking all of this together, where are you left when it comes to InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia?
What’s the Bottom Line About InstaSlim Garcinia Cambogia?
We’re consumers, too. And just like you, we want to make the most informed decision possible, especially when it comes to our health and our money.
With this in mind, if a company makes a scientific claim (such as helping you to lose weight), then you deserve to know about the evidence behind it. And in the case of garcinia cambogia, sites like WebMD and PubMed indicate there isn’t a lot of human-centered clinical evidence showing that it can help drop a meaningful amount of weight.
Paired with the frequently low customer feedback for very similar supplements here on HighYa, we think you might get the best bang-for-your-buck by speaking with your doctor. Then, they can address any weight loss concerns based on your specific diagnosis.
