The Insul-3X supplement from Nutrition Scientific promises to help you manage your weight by improving insulin sensitivity, decreasing your cravings for sugar and processed foods, and flattening your belly.
To do this, we’re told that Insul-3X contains an “optimal dosage” of potent ingredients that make it easier for your body to burn fat, and as a result, lose weight. The company is forthright in mentioning that you’ll need to adhere to a sensible diet and moderate physical activity to experience results, but claims that Insul-3X can help “kick start your body’s fat burning potential.”
Just last week, the company tells us that “thousands of people turned to Insul-3X to aid in weight management.” Should you be their next customer? We’ll lay out everything we learned during our research so you can become a professional shopper.
Before really diving in to Insul-3X’s claims, let’s briefly cover the role of insulin in your body (don’t worry, we’ll make this quick and painless!):
What Does Insulin Do? How Does It Work?
After you eat carbohydrates, your body breaks them down into simple sugars, formally known as glucose. But the problem is that glucose can’t naturally pass through cell walls, where it can be converted into usable energy.
Enter insulin. This hormone is released by the pancreas when blood sugar levels increase, which acts as a “key” of sorts by attaching to glucose and granting access to the interior of cells.
What Is Insulin Resistance?
Now, if you regularly eat too many carbohydrates (whether simple or complex), this will keep your insulin levels elevated for extended periods of time. If this scenario occurs often enough, it could lead to a condition known as insulin resistance (formally known as prediabetes).
Here, there isn’t enough insulin to go around, so glucose remains floating around in the bloodstream. More than 3 million people are diagnosed with this condition each year, which, if it goes undiagnosed, can lead to full-blown type 2 diabetes.
Can You Treat Your Insulin Resistance?
Although insulin resistance can certainly lead to more severe conditions, the good news is that it can be reduced—and even reversed—through a combination of weight management, eating a healthy diet, and exercising regularly.
As always, you should speak with your doctor if you think you might be insulin resistant. Until then, is there anything contained in Insul-3X that might help reduce your insulin resistance or manage your weight?
Will Insul-3X’s Ingredients Work?
According to Insul-3X’s supplements facts label, it contains:
Proprietary Blend 1,500mg: White Kidney Bean Extract (Paseolus Vulgaris), Apple Cider Vinegar (powder), Gymnema Sylvestre (powder), Cascara Sagrada (powder), Garcinia Cambogia Extract, Chitosan, Aloe Vera (powder)
Based on the available clinical evidence, will any of these help you lose weight, optimize your insulin levels, or regulate your sugar cravings?
According to ConsumerLab, there have been some starch-blocking benefits demonstrated in short-term white kidney bean extract studies. However, long-term efficacy and safety haven’t been demonstrated, so they conclude by stating, “the effectiveness of this approach is questionable.”
What Cause Sugar Addiction?
Note: Addiction is an extremely complex subject, involving an untold number of physical, mental, and social factors. Given this, we’re purposely oversimplifying here to draw a link between insulin resistance and sugar addiction.
From a physiological perspective, whether we’re talking about falling in love, eating sugar, or even abusing an illicit substance, our brain releases the neurotransmitters serotonin and/or dopamine. In turn, these “pleasure” chemicals make us feel good, so we tend to seek more and more of it.
In the case of sugar, if you consistently eat a lot, your body doesn’t become addicted to the substance itself—it becomes addicted to the way it makes you feel. And as we outlined above, if your sugar levels remain elevated for too long, your insulin will eventually become resistant.
The Signs & Symptoms of Sugar Addiction
Sugar addiction is a medically recognized diagnosis that comes with many of the same signs and symptoms as addiction to other substances, such as:
- Intense cravings
- Loss of control/lack of willpower when face-to-face with sugar
- Continuing use, despite negative consequences
What, exactly, are some of these consequences? While sugar addiction may not tear families—and even entire communities—apart quite like “harder” substances like alcohol, cocaine and other amphetamines, or opiates like heroin, it can still wreak havoc on your body.
For example, constantly eating too much sugar can lead to obesity, liver damage, an increased propensity for some types of cancer, decreased energy, skin and teeth problems, and of course, insulin resistance and type I diabetes.
Is there anything you can do to prevent this?
Can You Beat Your Sugar Addiction?
If you’re looking to beat addiction, whether to sugar or any other substance, the first step should be to enlist help from your physician—perhaps from a mental health professional as well. They’ll be able to recommend a course of action based on your specific diagnosis.
From there, you can try eating a fatty snack 10-30 minutes before your meal, eat a salad before each meal, include plenty of proteins and veggies with your meals, and be sure to get plenty of physical activity.
In the mean time, is there anything contained in Insul-3X that might help reduce your insulin resistance or manage your weight?
Cascara sagrada is a common ingredient found in natural “cleanses” and detoxes (many of which we’ve reviewed here at HighYa), because it creates a laxative effect and relieves constipation. There’s no clinical evidence that it has any benefits related to insulin, and although it may temporarily give you a flatter belly after flushing your system, this will return as soon as you eat again.
Then there’s good ol’ garcinia cambogia. This ingredient became hugely popular several years ago after being promoted by Dr. Oz, and we’ve reviewed dozens of supplements since then. The problem is that, even thought garcinia cambogia has been subjected to fairly intense scientific scrutiny, there remains zero clinical evidence that it has any beneficial effects in humans.
What Kinds of Side Effects Could You Experience with Insul-3X?
Fortunately, you probably won’t experience anything worse than mild digestive upset from Insul-3X’s ingredients, if anything at all.
Keep in mind that WebMD warns:
“Cascara is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when used long-term. Don’t use cascara for longer than one or two weeks. Long-term use can cause more serious side effects including dehydration; low levels of potassium, sodium, chloride, and other “electrolytes” in the blood; heart problems; muscle weakness; and others.”
What will you pay for Insul-3X’s ingredients?

Insul-3X can be purchased in the following quantities:

How does this price compare to other insulin supplements?
The Recent Flood of Insulin-Regulating Products
Whether it’s low-carb, high protein, blood type, or anything else, there seems to always be some new weight loss or fitness fad that promises to deliver better results.
Lately, we’ve watched as dozens of supplements and workout programs have been released, all promising to do the same thing: regulate insulin. This includes Thinsulin, Diabazole, SugarDown, and many others. You can find hundreds more options by searching for “insulin supplement” or “insulin fitness” in your favorite search engine.
From a price perspective, you’ll find these products all over the board, although most seem to fall in the $30-$50 range. Some go as high as $80.
Many of these supplements share one thing in common, though: Like Insul-3X, most of their ingredients have insufficient clinical evidence showing them to deliver results.
Will Insul-3X Help Regulate Your Insulin & Shed Pounds?
Insul-3X is brought to you by Nutrition Scientific, who appears to manufacture a narrow line of other health-related supplements—even a brand of sugar-free chocolates. The company’s URL has been registered since 2013, although there’s no About page on their website, additional information available elsewhere online, or a listing with the Better Business Bureau.
Even though we might know very little about the company behind Insul-3X, we think it’s positive that they mention that you’ll need to adhere to “a healthy diet and physical activity routine” in order to see results. In other words, it’s not some kind of “magic” pill.
But ask yourself this: Given the fact that diet and exercise are the only tried-and-true methods of shedding pounds and keeping them off, how can you gauge if you’re losing weight on your own, or if Insul-3X is working at all? Without this information, how could you tell if it’s providing a solid value for your money?
This large unknown, combined with the overall lack of clinical evidence for its ingredients and moderately high price, means that we’d recommend speaking with your doctor about whether or not Insul-3X is right for you.
