About Luna Trim

Harnessing the interactive power of their core natural ingredients, the Luna Trim dietary supplement promises to help burn fat inside cells, boost energy, enhance metabolism, and prevent the formation of additional fat—all while preserving lean muscle mass.

Together, the company advertises it’s a fast and easy way to look great this summer, without worrying about potentially unhealthy preservatives. They indicate you simply need to take one capsule before your first meal and another before dinner.

Based on what we learned from the Luna Trim website, we’re left with two critical questions: 1) Is there clinical evidence that a dietary supplement can help boost weight loss results, and if so, 2) does Luna Trim deliver better potential value than the competition?

To help you find some actionable answers before handing over your money, we’ll start by taking a look at a fundamental concept behind the supplement.

The Basics Behind Metabolism

From a high-level perspective, the Mayo Clinic explains that the term ‘metabolism’ references the process whereby your body turns food into energy, so that it can maintain functions necessary for supporting life (e.g., breathing, heartbeat, digestion, brain function, etc.).

However, they emphasize that “when you hear the word "metabolism" used today, it's usually in reference to weight issues.” Such as someone saying, "I can't lose weight because I have a slow metabolism."

This is often where dietary supplements like Luna Trim come in by promising to boost metabolism. But how does this relate to weight?

The amount of energy your body uses to maintain these processes is measured in calories. And from an overly simplistic perspective, if you consume more calories from food than your body metabolizes, this extra energy is stored for later use inside specialized cells called adipocytes. If this continues for long enough, these cells can accumulate to the point where you begin gaining weight.

On the flip side, if you consume fewer calories than your body metabolizes (known as a calorie deficit), it will begin burning these fat reserves. If this continues, you’ll start losing weight.

Pro tip: Each pound of fat contains about 3,500 calories. Therefore, if your body burns 500 more calories per day than you consume, you’ll lose about one to two pounds per week.

While watching what you eat and regularly enjoying physical activity are the keys to losing weight and keeping it off, supplements like Luna Trim promise to provide users with the extra edge they might need to drop an extra couple of pounds. But is there clinical evidence supporting the effectiveness of its ingredients?

Taking a Closer Look at Luna Trim’s Ingredients

Other than 100% pure, all natural forskolin, garcinia cambogia, and ginseng on the website, no other ingredients in Luna Trim’s formula are listed. Looking for additional details, we called and spoke with customer support, who advised it contains the following (interestingly, two of the above ingredients are absent):

  • Green Tea Extract 300 mg
  • Caffeine 200 mg
  • Green Coffee Bean Extract 220 mg
  • L-Carnitine 45 mg
  • Dandelion Root Extract 25 mg
  • Turmeric 5 mg

Taking a look at the cumulative data presented by sites like the Natural Medicines Database, WebMD, and Examine.com, they report there is insufficient clinical evidence supporting the manufacturer’s weight loss claims for Luna Trim’s ingredients.

The exception to this is caffeine, although its weight loss benefits have only been clinically supported when used in combination with (the now illegal) ephedra.

With these details in mind, the manufacturer lists six studies in the footer of the Luna Trim website:

  • A 2006 Japanese study conducted by Biological Science Laboratories indicating that mice who were given tea catechins, in combination with exercise, lost weight.
  • A 2014 meta-analysis of six randomized trials, which concluded that taking green coffee bean extract could help users lose more weight than diet and exercise alone.
  • A 2004 study indicating that carnitine supplementation could be beneficial for people with diabetes.
  • A 2003 13-week study that concluded conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) supplementation helped boost weight loss in overweight subjects, although it didn’t improve maintenance after weight loss.
  • A 2003 study showing that Super CitriMax, a proprietary hydroxycitric acid ingredient, had a beneficial impact on overweight rats over the course of 90 days.
  • A 2005 study conducted at the Yale School of Medicine exploring insulin resistance’s mechanism of action.

Could Luna Trim’s Ingredients Cause Potential Side Effects?

WebMD and the Natural Medicines Database report that most of these ingredients won’t cause side effects in the majority of users. And if they do, they likely won’t be worse than mild, temporary digestive upset.

However, they emphasize that those who are allergic to ragweed and related plants (daisies, chrysanthemums, marigolds, etc.) should check with their doctor before taking a dandelion supplement.

Also, they indicate that in some instances (no dosages or other specifics provided) l-carnitine can cause “the urine, breath, and sweat to have a "fishy" odor.”

It’s important to point out that at 200 mg per dose (plus the natural content found in green tea), Luna Trim contains about as much caffeine as two cups of coffee. For sensitive users, this could lead to rapid heartbeat, jitteriness and nervousness, as well as insomnia.

How Much Does Luna Trim Cost & Where Can You Buy?

If purchased directly from the manufacturer, the retail prices for Luna Trim are as follows:

  • 1 Bottle (60 capsules): $69.99
  • 3 Bottles: $129.99 ($43.33 per bottle)
  • 5 Bottles: $199.99 ($39.99 per bottle)

However, an image at the bottom of the ordering page indicates that mail-in rebates are available (details will be included with your order), ultimately bringing these prices down to:

  • 1 Bottle: $59.94
  • 3 Bottles: $119.97 ($33.99 per bottle)
  • 5 Bottles: $148 ($29.60 per bottle)

Regardless of the package you order, or whether or not you claim your rebate, all direct orders come with a 30-day money back guarantee, less S&H. Keep in mind, however, that per the company’s terms this only applies to unopened packages in their original condition.

To request one, customer service can be reached at 800-208-0186 or support@lunatrimdiet.com.

We also found Luna Trim sold through third-party online retailers like The Organic Health Shop and NP Organics (which appear to be operated by the same company) for as little as $24.95 per bottle.

Luna Trim vs. Other Garcinia Cambogia & Forskolin Weight Loss Supplements

According to Statista.com, more than $628 million worth of weight loss vitamins, minerals, and supplements were sold in the United States in 2017 alone. As you might imagine, this means there are perhaps thousands of different dietary supplement weight loss formulas competing for the same customers as Luna Trim.

Even just narrowing our options down to those that include the same core ingredients (forskolin, garcinia cambogia, and ginseng), we encountered dozens of meaningfully similar supplements sold on marketplaces like Amazon, Google Shopping, and Walmart, to name just a few.

From a price perspective, we found some 60-count bottles for less than $10, while other formulas we’ve reviewed in the past—such as ExoSlim, Qute Balance, and Aptulux—can reach $60 to $80 or more.

Considering this, how can you choose the best option? Let’s carry this question over to the final section as we conclude.

Should You Place an Order for Luna Trim?

As we detail in The Great Forskolin Hoax and Your Updated Guide to Garcinia Cambogia, there’s little-to-no peer-reviewed clinical evidence indicating that either of these ingredients can deliver meaningful weight loss in humans, above and beyond traditional diet and exercise. Despite this fact, weight loss supplements containing these ingredients continue to flourish in today’s marketplace.

With this detail in mind, if you're looking to take a science-backed approach to shed pounds and keeping them off for good, you need to start by having a conversation with your doctor. They can ask detailed questions and order tests (if necessary) to form a diagnosis, and then craft a treatment regimen to help you sustainably reach your goals.

While you’re there, be sure to ask your doctor whether or not dietary supplements like Luna Trim make sense based on your specific diagnosis, as well as about any possible side effects or drug interactions. If they recommend you proceed, just keep in mind that as soon as you open your bottle and give it a try, you’ll lose the ability to process a refund.

I have started on the second bottle and I haven't lost even an ounce. I have been doing everything I'm supposed to do without any results. Is there a money back guarantee on this? I feel like spending $125 for nothing.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
