What Is Natural Fusion?

Claiming to be changing foot care forever with its safe, proven, chemical-free system, Natural Fusion is a UV-C shoe disinfector that promises to kill 99.9 percent of bacteria, fungus, and odor in your shoes.

The product also claims to be easy to use, working in just seven minutes to clean your shoes and leave them smelling better while also drastically reducing the risk of encountering bacteria that can cause fungal infections like Athlete’s foot and nail fungus.

The Natural Fusion includes two UV-C inserts, as well as a charging base that holds and recharges them between uses. The website states that you can get two full seven-minute treatments out of each charge, which takes about 40 minutes.

So, how is the device shown to work in practice?

Using Natural Fusion UV-C Shoe Disinfector

To use Natural Fusion, you need to ensure both units are fully charged before removing them from the charging base and turning them on using the power button on the bottom of each light. Then, you’ll place the two devices into whatever boots, sneakers, slippers, or shoes you’d like to clean, allowing them to sit for a total of seven minutes. There is a 10 second delayed start once you press the power button, in order to prevent you from looking directly into the UV-C light.

Will Natural Fusion Really Kill Bacteria That Can Cause Athlete’s Foot, Shoe Odor, and Nail Fungus?

The main claim behind Natural Fusion is that its UV-C light source can effectively eliminate up to 99.9 percent of the fungus, bacteria, and odor within your shoes using a specialized form of ultraviolet light called UV-C. So, is this truly what you can expect from the technology, or is it just fancy marketing talk?

As it turns out, ultraviolet light realty can attack and kill cells, and it does so by damaging their DNA, according to a post by chemistry professor Anne Rammelsberg on Scientific American. In addition, several clinical studies have been reported on that illustrate the cleansing power of UV-C light, confirming its ability to neutralize many different forms of bacteria in the process.

This said it looks as though exposure time might be crucially important in determining how effective a particular product is. For instance, a popular UV-C competitor called SteriShoe had an independent clinical study carried out around its own ability to eliminate germs, and the results illustrated that the longer the shoes were exposed to the light, the more effective the product was at eliminating microbes.

Because using this product for 45 minutes was shown to be much more effective than using it for 10, we’d say this is worth consideration when viewed in relation to Natural Fusion’s seven-minute runtime. Even if you used the device to get two treatments in, you’d still only be exposing the shoes to light for a total of 14 minutes between 40-minute charges.

So, what does this ultimately mean? Because these results were associated with a competing product, we can’t categorically state that they are universal and can be applied to Natural Fusion. However, because UV-C light is used in both products, it certainly deserves careful considering going into a potential purchase situation.

The terms and conditions on the product’s website list that all orders are covered by a 30-day satisfaction guarantee, less S&H fees. You’ll also be required to pay any shipping fees associated with getting the device back to the manufacturer. Natural Fusion vs. Alternative UV-C Cleaning Devices

We briefly mentioned a competing product a moment ago, but now it’s time to take a closer look at the options available on the market currently. Simply typing in “UV-C shoe sanitizer” on Google or Amazon.com brings up several different results, many of which share several design cues and functionalities to the Natural Fusion.

The most popular product online (in terms of customer reviews and overall rating) seems to be the aforementioned Sterishoe+, which claims to take just 15 minutes to work, though treatment times can be extended to up to 45 minutes seeing as the device is corded, unlike the battery-operated Natural Fusion. The device was also quite a bit more expensive, totaling out to $149.95 on Amazon as of this writing.

The company seems to have quite a bit of clinical data behind their brand, as well as over 100 customer reviews on Amazon, so with this in mind, how can you decide which option, if any, will be right for you in the end? Consider the following:

  • Pay attention to what users are saying. As mentioned, Sterishoe featured numerous customer reviews on Amazon, the bulk of which were positive overall. Many users noted that they could really tell a difference in odor after treatment, and one even said that the product eliminated their recurring athlete’s foot issues. Compared to the lack of any verifiable reviews for Natural Fusion, this makes quite a statement.

  • Consider your alternatives. There are many different sprays and other liquid-based treatments that might be less expensive, depending on your needs. For instance, if you’re focused on odor elimination directly, there are many products online dedicated to this that cost a fraction of what a UV-C device like Natural Fusion or Sterishoe costs.

  • Always read the return policy thoroughly. Seeing as these sorts of products can be relatively expensive (at least compared to the liquid-based solutions discussed above), we feel that it’s always a good option to be able to return them, should you feel that they aren’t living up to your expectations. Thankfully, both Natural Fusion and Sterishoe have 30-day satisfaction guarantees.

The Bottom Line: Is Natural Fusion UV-C Shoe Disinfector Effective?

Will Natural Fusion truly eliminate 99.9 percent of bacteria, fungus, and odors? Based on what we’ve learned, we found that UV-C light does indeed have multiple clinical studies illustrating its ability to kill germs by damaging their DNA, depending on the length of exposure and a number of other factors, such as the intensity and wavelength of the ultraviolet light itself.

We also found that in at least one other similar product, a treatment time of 45 minutes was more effective than 10 minutes, both of which are longer than the claimed time it takes Natural Fusion to do the job (seven minutes).

If you’d like to give Natural Fusion UV-C Shoe Disinfector a try, we’d recommend keeping the 30-day unconditional return policy in mind, should you decide it wasn’t what you were looking for in the end.
