Patchtastic claims to be the fast, easy, and inexpensive way of fixing virtually any drywall hole, ding, or dent in minutes, and making it look like a hole was never there. Patchtastic claims to be so fast and easy that anyone can use it; simply place the mesh on the drywall, plaster over the mesh, and then paint.
The company claims that Patchtastic comes with everything you’ll need to patch drywall damage, and that you won’t need any special tools, cutting, sawing or messy putties during the process.
Can Patchtastic Make Drywall Repair Easier?
With all of this information in mind, the big question is: Can Patchtastic help you make drywall repairs faster and easier? Is it worth the money? Consider the following:
The Widespread Availability of Drywall Repair Kits
Keep in mind that drywall patch/repair kits are a dime a dozen, and can almost certainly be found at your local hardware or home improvement store, generally for less, especially when factoring in Patchtastic’s high S&H charges (more about this in a moment).
Alternately, you could buy each of the ingredients yourself (e.g. mesh, putty, small can of paint, etc.) for about the same price as Patchtastic, but you’ll have enough for numerous repairs. While this might initially be more labor intensive, especially if you’ve never repaired drywall before, you’ll be learning how to do it without relying on a kit.
With this said, there doesn’t appear to be anything contained in the Patchtastic kit that would necessarily make the drywall repair process any faster or easier, other than providing you with everything you’ll need in one place.
But regardless of whether you use a Patchtastic kit or DIY ingredients from your local hardware store, repairing drywall is a skill that will require practice in order to master. For example, when using mesh to repair larger drywall holes, it can be difficult to find the right balance of putty to conceal the mesh, without using too much that could lead to a “bump” in the wall. Also, whichever method you use, unless you want your drywall repair to appear lumpy and uneven, you’ll need to sand the putty, which is often the most labor-intensive part and is not mentioned on the Patchtastic website.
Patchtastic Pricing & Refund Policy
Patchtastic kits are priced at $10 plus $5.95 S&H, and include the following:
- 2 plaster packets
- Mixing spoon
- 3 mesh patches
- Plastic spreader card
- Sand paper
- Patchtastic Touch Up Applicator Tube
- 2 paint transfer pumps
You’ll also be able to double your order (2 Patchtastic kits) for an additional $5.95 S&H, bringing your total to $21.90.
Important note: There isn’t a refund policy listed on the Patchtastic website or in their Terms & Conditions, and there is no contact information provided (no phone number or email address) that can be used to verify this information. A company named Permission Interactive, Inc. is listed in the Terms & Conditions, although this appears to be who’s responsible for the website, not the product itself.
With this said, most ASOTV products come with 30-day refund policies, less S&H charges. In the instance of Patchtastic, this means you’d lose $11.90 if you’re dissatisfied and attempt to process a return, which is almost 20% more than the cost of the product itself. And this is even before factoring in return S&H charges back to the manufacturer.
Considering that drywall repair kits can be purchased locally for less money, and that the Patchtastic kit doesn’t appear to contain anything unique, you’ll probably want to explore these options before potentially losing money on steep S&H charges.
Patchtastic includes the painting solution
The real value in the Patchtastic kit is the paint applicator tube. Patch kits are a "dime a dozen" proposition, but no kit gives you a way to paint the walls after the patch is done. The kit includes the paint applicator so your project can be finished easily. No other patch kit offer includes that. Also the kit was designed to be disposable after use. Keeping a tube of spackle, putty knife, and sandpaper is something that not everyone want to keep around. Just get the job done and make any leftover ingredient and tools disappear. Great value.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
