About PedEgg Power Mini
Compared to the original Ped Egg Power, the PedEgg Power Mini is claimed to provide the same ability to buff away calluses and dead, dry, rough skin in seconds, but in a size that fits in the palm of your hand. Because of this, the manufacturer calls the PedEgg Power Mini “the #1 callus remover in America, but now half the size.”
Despite its diminutive size, PedEgg Power Mini is claimed to use nano-abrasion roller technology—which gently spins at 200 times per minute—to help even the roughest feet look baby smooth and years younger, quickly, easily, and inexpensively, without any pain.
Keeping your feet looking their best is a year-round struggle, but especially so during the sandal-sporting summer months. So will PedEgg Power Mini’s gentle abrasion provide you with the results you’re after, as well as a solid value for your money?
First, let’s take a look at what causes calluses and dry, cracked feet.
What Causes Calluses? How about Dry, Cracked Feet?
Although calluses might be unsightly, your body naturally forms these thick layers of skin to protect otherwise sensitive skin from repeated exposure to pressure or friction, often from footwear, but they can also be caused by going barefoot too frequently. In addition to their telltale thickness and roughness, calluses will often appear yellow or grey, furthering their unsightly appearance.
On the other hand, because your feet contain no oil glands, they are naturally drier than the other skin on your body. However, once your feet become excessively dry, whether due to hot showers, drying soaps, cold weather, or simply the aging process, their skin can crack. As if this wasn’t enough, your calluses can also become dry and cracked, making them even more embarrassing.
Regardless of what causes calluses or dry feet, once it occurs, can the PedEgg Power Mini provide relief?
Will The PedEgg Power Mini Effectively Address Your Calluses?
In short, it’s possible. This is because the PedEgg Power Mini’s abrasive rollers and fast-spinning technology could reasonably buff away the top layers of skin and provide smoother, softer feet.
However, keep in mind that despite the manufacturer’s “powerful” claims, it’s likely that the PedEgg Power Mini will only address relatively thin calluses. In other words, if your feet calluses are mildly to moderately thick, it might require several professional treatments at your local beauty salon to sufficiently get rid of them. Otherwise, you could spend weeks with the PedEgg Power Mini and not achieve the results you’re after.
How do we know this? Let’s find out.
Are There Similar Options to the PedEgg Power Mini?
Despite the manufacturer’s nano-abrasion roller technology, the fact of the matter is that this is nothing unique. Why?
Because handheld callus removers like the PedEgg Power Mini are a dime a dozen, and are available from many other manufacturers. This obviously includes the original Ped Egg Power, but also other options such as Personal Pedi, Personal Pedi Max, Emjoi Micro Pedi, and many more.
Among nearly 100 HighYa reader reviews for these products, they have an average rating of 2.5 stars. While some customers stated that their callus rollers worked well, the most common complaints appeared to revolve around failure to work as advertised, poor quality (stops working quickly), and difficult customer service experiences (rude personnel, difficulty obtaining refunds, etc.).
Admittedly, this doesn’t mean this is the case with PedEgg Power Mini, although it’s certainly worth considering.
If you’re on the fence about PedEgg Power Mini, are there other methods you can use to treat or prevent calluses?
Callus Prevention & Treatment Methods
In order to prevent calluses, your best bet is to purchase properly fitting shoes (professionally measured, if possible) with the proper length and width. Also, avoiding shoes with sharp toes or high heels is ideal for avoiding calluses, although for women, it’s a truism that sometimes fashion hurts.
To prevent dry, cracked feet, the obvious answer is to apply a high-quality moisturizer in the evening, and then cover your feet with soft cotton socks. You can also wash your feet with an antibacterial soap and avoid taking excessively hot showers.
There are dozens of home remedies for addressing dry feet, including using coconut oil, paraffin wax, fruit acids (there are even acid-based products such as One Hands Feet and Pedi Peel Magic), Epsom salt, and more.
If you already have calluses on your feet (and who doesn’t?), in addition to electronic products like PedEgg Power Mini, you can use pumice stones, pads soaked in salicylic acid, soaking your feet in baking soda, and much more. As we mentioned above, properly fitting shoes can help prevent calluses, while also lessening the ones you currently have.
But enough about PedEgg Power Mini, let’s quickly talk about the company behind the product.
PedEgg Power Mini’s Manufacturer
With nearly 200 HighYa reviews, these products come with an average rating of 2 stars, based primarily on complaints surrounding failure to work as advertised, poor quality, and frustrating customer service experiences (e.g. unknowledgeable personnel, difficulty obtaining refunds, etc.).
Telebrands also held a D- rating with the Better Business Bureau at the time of our research (up from an F several months ago), based on 1,209 closed complaints (as of 8/7/15). Most of these referenced the same concerns noted above.
PedEgg Power Mini Pricing & Refund Policy
One PedEgg Power Mini is priced at $10 plus $6.99 S&H, although you’ll be able to purchase a second at checkout for an additional $6.99 S&H.
All PedEgg Power Mini orders come with a coarse roller and a free soothing roller, lifetime roller replacement, and a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. This means that you could ultimately lose 50% more in S&H charges than you’ll receive as a refund.
In order to request a refund, you’ll need to contact Telebrands customer service at 855-668-1655.
Is the PedEgg Power Mini Worthwhile?
Truth be told, other than size, there doesn’t appear to be anything meaningfully different from the original PedEgg Power. As such, it may not be worth upgrading if your already own one.
In fact, comparing side-by-side pictures of the Power and the Mini, they really don’t seem to be significantly different in size, and definitely not a 50% difference as claimed by the manufacturer.
This, in addition to the fact that roller callus removals are so popular they’ll almost certainly be available at a store near you, we’d recommend exploring local options before placing your PedEgg power Mini order.
