About Perfect Sculpt Painless Wax Beans
After applying to the skin, allowing time to dry, and pulling it off smoothly, the original formula in Perfect Sculpt Painless Wax Beans promises to help you remove unwanted hairs from any part of the body—including the face, armpits, and bikini line—without spending hundreds at the salon, using messy strips, or applying pre-wax oil.
And despite this ease of use, the manufacturer claims their wax is infused with lovely smelling chamomile that soothes and revitalizes your skin, even if it’s sensitive.
According to the website, all you have to do is heat Painless Wax Beans in a was heater or melter, and it will stick to your hair instead of skin, thereby creating a “painless waxing experience.”
Is this really the case? In other words, can you expect Perfect Sculpt’s formula to deliver a pain-free waxing experience? Even then, are there other products like it? And if so, how do Painless Wax Beans compare?
It’s no wonder that you’re interested in achieving easier, less painful hair removal. But before handing over your hard-earned money for the product in question, take a few minutes to read what we learned during our research.
How Does Waxing Remove Hair?
Interviewed for Bustle.com, Jessica Krant, M.D. and Assistant Clinical Professor Of Dermatology at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York, noted that, although waxing can create very smooth results, because it involves ripping hairs out by their roots, it can be a painful process.
Whether using Perfect Sculpt Wax Beans or a third-party product, waxing also leads to tiny wounds just underneath the surface of the skin, which could cause temporary redness, blotchiness, and irritation, and possibly leave the area more prone to infection by opening pores.
To help give your skin a little TLC post-waxing, representatives from Fuzz Wax Bar recommend cleaning and nourishing the area with special lotions that can help keep the skin smooth and supple. Also, keep in mind that some tenderness is normal, but if you’re worried, be sure to speak with a healthcare professional.
How Do Painless Wax Beans Work?
Like other wax-based hair removal products, you’ll need to add your Perfect Sculpt Beans to a heater (the company sells one model, although you’ll find dozens of other options sold through third-party retailers and manufacturers).
Once the appropriate consistency is reached, you'll apply the wax to your skin, wait a few seconds, and then stretch the wax by pressing down firmly on the skin underneath. Because of its quick drying process, Perfect Sculpt emphasizes that you won't have to use secondary products like strips with their Wax Beans.
Then, you’ll create a lip at the end of your wax strip and pull firmly toward your body. The company notes that consistency and temperature is the key to optimizing your results with their Wax Beans, which you can learn more about in the video below:
What Are Painless Wax Bean’s Ingredients?
While there wasn’t a list of ingredients posted on the Perfect Sculpt website, we contacted customer support via chat and learned it contains the following:
Colophonium (Rosin), Glyceryl Rosinate, Ethylene/VA Copolymer, Beeswax, Paraffin, Glyceryl Hydrogenated Rosinate, Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate, Hydrogenated Coconut Oil and C30-45 Alkyl Methicone.
According to The Dermatologist, rosins, also known as colophony, is a term “collectively used for the solidified, distilled form of resins from pines, cedars, spruce, firs, and junipers,” which help protect them from pathogens, insects, and other animals.
While the substance has been used for millennia as a varnishing and lacquering sealant, it’s also commonly found in cosmetics (among many other product classifications) like dental floss, sunscreen, and depilatories due to its binding ability.
Glyceryl rosinate is also a rosin, but one that acts as a conditioning agent, surfactant, and emulsifier, according to PaulasChoice.com. Ethylene/VA Copolymer is another rosin, but one that adds flexible, clear strength to formulas, while Ethylene/VA Copolymer is a synthetic rosin, and Methyl Hydrogenated Rosinate that’s often used as a fragrance fixative.
Although it might be obvious, beeswax and paraffin are types of waxes that act as stiffening agents, which become a liquid when heated.
Finally, hydrogenated coconut oil and C30-45 Alkyl Methicone are skin conditioning agents that help retain skin moisture.
Interestingly, although the Perfect Sculpt website frequently references the inclusion of chamomile in Painless Wax Beans, it wasn’t shown in the ingredients listed provided to us by customer support.
Could These Ingredients Cause Side Effects?
According to resources like the Natural Medicines Database, WebMD, and EWG.org, when applied to the skin, most of these ingredients will not cause side effects, unless you’re especially sensitive.
But, outside of the micro-wounds and resultant irritation possible when using any waxing product, The Dermatologist emphasizes that unlike plant-based saps, which “have an intrinsic nourishing function (containing water, glucose, minerals, and hormones)," the protective function provided by rosin could cause additional potential reactions in especially sensitive individuals (no specifics or dosages provided).
With this said, according to WaxingBeanReviews.com, "Almost all of the hard wax beans currently on the market claim to be chemical-free, and some have added ingredients which are beneficial for your skin, such as cocoa butter, lavender, chamomile, or aloe. So, barring any cases of allergy or skin conditions such as eczema, etc., hard wax beans are safe for all skin types."
However, as with any wax (not just Perfect Sculpt Beans), you’ll always want to test the temperature before applying it to your skin, in order to avoid painful burns.
How Much Do Perfect Sculpt Painless Wax Beans Cost?
Available in purple, red, pink, green, and blue colors, a one-time purchase of Painless Wax Beans will cost you $12.99 for a 100g (3.5 oz) bag.
If used as instructed, how much coverage area will one bag of the Wax Beans provide? When we posed this question to customer service through chat, we were told, “I am really sorry, but I cannot assure you with that as it completely depends on the usage and growth of hair.”
If purchased directly through the company, you can subscribe to receive a monthly shipment of Wax Beans to save 25 percent, decreasing the price to $9.74. The separate heater was priced at $45 on Amazon.
According to the site’s FAQ, all sales directly through Perfect Sculpt are final, and refunds are only given within seven days in the form of store credit. They also note that, “due to the intimate nature of our products and inability to resell products that have touched another human’s skin,” restocking fees may apply.
All refunds/credits are also less shipping and handling charges.
What Are Customers Saying In Their Perfect Sculpt Painless Wax Beans Reviews?
There were 65 customer reviews for Painless Wax Beans on Perfect Sculpt’s website at the time of our research, who had given the product an average rating of 4.5 stars. There, frequent compliments referenced ease of use, effective results, and less pain than other waxing methods. Complaints, what relatively few there were, often referenced more pain than expected, along with a high price.
Among 15 Amazon customers, Painless Wax Beans had a lower average rating of 2.2 stars, where complaints claimed that they weren’t painless, required perfect application, and that one pricey bag didn’t go very far (many claimed there was only enough to cover one leg).
Also, according to several Amazon customers, the wax can’t be reused, despite its price.
While some customer stated that you could use your microwave and an old popsicle stick to achieve similar results, Perfect Sculpt’s Warmer had three Amazon customer reviews and an average 3.3-star rating. Two claimed it worked well, while a third was frustrated with its lack of heating options, auto-shutoff feature, and high price compared to the competition.
Speaking of which, are there other wax beans competing for the same customers as Perfect Sculpt?
Perfect Sculpt Painless vs. Other Hard Wax Beans
A quick search on online marketplaces like Amazon and Google Shopping revealed that when it comes to hard wax beans, there are a meaningful number of options competing with Perfect Sculpt. Here’s how some of the top results stacked up:
|Perfect Sculpt Painless Wax Beans||$12.99||3.7oz ($3.51/oz)||Includes chamomile, advertised as pain-free|
|Auperwel Hard Wax Beans||$11.49||10oz ($1.15/oz)||Also comes in chocolate and lavender scents|
|Aimike Hard Wax Beans||$9.99||10.5oz ($1.05/oz)||Includes 12 wooden spatulas|
|Cirepil Blue Wax||$38.80||28.22oz ($0.72/oz)||Promises to feature a patented polymer formula|
|LuckyFine Body Wax Beans||$9.99||3.7oz ($2.70/oz)||Comes in tea tree and lavender scents|
According to the WaxingBeanReviews article cited earlier, most “hard wax beans, also known as hard wax pellets or hard wax beads, are made of specially formulated depilatory wax.” In other words, most of their formulas are relatively the same.
They also note that, “Part of the painlessness and smoothness of the procedure can be attributed to the fact that the wax is specially formulated to only grip the hairs – it isn’t sticky and doesn’t adhere stubbornly to the skin (this means no more messes or bruising as a result of waxing).”
This also means that the ‘painlessness’—which will certainly be subjective—isn’t necessarily unique to Perfect Sculpt’s formula, or any other third-party wax beans.
What does all of this mean for you?
Our Final Thoughts About Perfect Sculpt Painless Wax Beans
According to Phoebe Waller‘s Bustle article cited earlier, “waxing is no walk in the park, and it will probably never be pain-free.” In other words, while wax beans (whether from Perfect Sculpt or another manufacturer might better grip hairs and result in less pain, if you’re expecting a complete lack of pain, you might be dissatisfied with the outcome.
Granted, everyone’s pain tolerance is different, so there’s ultimately no way to know without giving one of these stripless waxing options a try. As consumers ourselves, then, the question ultimately comes down to which options might present the least risk, while delivering the highest level of value.
And based on what we learned during our research, there doesn’t seem to be much of a difference between formulations—or any necessarily greater benefits by paying more.
As such, we might recommend focusing on wax beans that provide the largest quantity for the least amount of money, and that come from manufacturers who stand behind their products with robust refund policies. In the instance of Perfect Sculpt’s Painless Wax Beans, even if you’re eligible for a refund within seven days of placing an order, you’ll still only receive store credit.
