Called a “24-hour weight loss solution” by the company, Phen24 is a nutritional supplement that claims to help address your weight loss from multiple perspectives. How so?
According to the manufacturer, Phen24 combines powerful day and night formulations, each made with high-quality, natural ingredients.
When combined, we’re told Phen24 can help boost metabolism (during both day and at night), improve energy during the day, burn more calories, and reduce evening cravings.
This way, we’re told Phen24 can deliver around-the-clock weight loss (along with your regular diet and exercise regimens), without the use of stimulants. Simply take two capsules of the Day formula each morning with breakfast, as well as two Night capsules about 15 minutes before your meal.
Even if you just started researching weight loss supplements, you likely already know that the industry is full of marketing hype and overblown claims.
Once you sweep all of this aside though, will Phen24’s ingredients deliver on the company’s promises, or will it leave you frustrated from a lack of results?
Let’s start by talking about the process of losing weight.
How Is Metabolism Related to Weight Loss?
A calorie is a unit of measure than represents the amount of heat it takes to “force one newton through one meter.” In terms of humans, calories provide the energy our body needs to survive, which is released from the foods we eat.
Some foods, like fat, feature higher calorie content, while others, like protein and carbohydrates, tend to come with lower levels of this built-in energy.
Now, the process by which food is converted into energy is called metabolism, and the number of calories your body uses to carry out essential functions (breathing, keeping your heart beating, repairing cellular damage, etc.) is known as your basal metabolic rate. This rate isn’t the same for everyone, as it’s dependent on body size and composition, gender, and age.
Pulling together what we’ve learned, if you consume more calories (i.e. energy) than your body needs for essential metabolism, much of this excess energy is stored as fat for later use. On the flip side, in order to shed some of this weight, you’ll need to expend more calories than you consume; otherwise known as a calorie deficit.
In general, one pound of fat is equal to 3,500 calories, which means you’ll need to create a deficit of 500 calories per day (again, depending on age, gender, and weight) in order to lose 1-2 pounds per week. On the other hand, will Phen24’s ingredients improve your metabolism and help you burn more fat?
Which Ingredients Does Phen24 Contain? Are They Effective?
While there weren’t any labels provided on the Phen24 website (so we can’t know the exact dosages), here’s what we’re told each formulation contains:
Of these, iodine may be effective for treating some aspects of hyperthyroidism, which can lead to weight gain, although there doesn’t seem to be enough clinical evidence showing it’s effective for otherwise healthy individuals. In fact, this general lack of supporting clinical evidence holds true for all of Phen24 Day’s other ingredients, as well.
- Green Tea Extract
- Griffonia Extract
- Chromium Picolinate
- Choline Bitartrate
- Pantothenic Acid
- Pyridoxine HCl
- Ascorbic Acid
- Hops Extract
Of these, glucomannan is a source of dietary fiber frequently found in natural laxatives, since it’s often effective for relieving constipation. As such, it may help you temporarily lose water weight, although much of this will be regained as soon as you drink liquids.
Thiamine is also listed as possibly effective for correcting metabolic disorders related to some genetic diseases, but not necessarily for otherwise healthy individuals.
As with the Day formulation, outside of these instances, there isn’t enough clinical evidence showing any of these ingredients will deliver on Phen24’s promises.
What about the references listed on the supplement’s website? Yes, some of these single studies indicate there might be a relationship between a handful of ingredients and increased metabolism and/or fat loss.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that a single study doesn’t indicate that something is clinically proven. This generally takes an entire body of evidence, which can constitute hundreds (or even thousands) of individual studies confirming these results.
Are There Any Phen24 Side Effects?
As most coffee and soda drinkers will tell you, caffeine can cause temporary side effects like elevated heart rated, nervousness, and jitters, especially in higher doses. Again, we’re not told how much Phen24 contains, or what kinds of side effects you might reasonably experience as a result.
According to WebMD, taking more than 11mg of manganese per day is listed as “possibly unsafe,” while taking chromium for longer than 6 months might also be unsafe.
Finally, higher doses of choline may cause “sweating, a fishy body odor, gastrointestinal distress, diarrhea, and vomiting.”
Outside of this, if you experience anything at all, it likely won’t be worse than mild digestive upset. However, according to the manufacturer, Phen 24 should not be taken by those who are pregnant or nursing, or under the age of 18. You should also consult with your doctor if you suffer from:
- Taking anti-depressants
- Endocrine disorders
- Autoimmune disorders
- Prostate hypertrophy or cancer
- Liver disease
- Kidney disease
- Testicular cancer
- Breast cancer
How Much Does Phen24 Cost?
Phen24 is available through three different options:
- 1 Box (30 Day pills and 60 Night pills): $74.99
- 3 Boxes: $149.99
- 5 Boxes: $224.99
According to the Phen24 website, the supplement comes with free worldwide shipping, although this appears to only apply if you order 2 or more boxes. Also, while Phen24 comes with a 60-day money back guarantee, less S&H, it appears this is only the case for unused boxes.
Important note: Phen24’s manufacturer is based out of the UK. As such, if this is where you’ll have to return the product if you’re dissatisfied (nothing is mentioned in the company’s Terms), it could cost you a pretty penny.
Nonetheless, in order to request a refund, you’ll need to call +44 (0) 208 787 5981 or reach out via online contact form (which can help you avoid the long distance charges).
Will Phen24 Really Make It Simple to Achieve Your Dream Body?
We’ve already focused about the general lack of clinical evidence supporting the effectiveness of many of Phen24’s ingredients. Now, as we wrap things up, let’s talk about a few more important factors that can help you make a more informed decision:
Are There Any Online Reviews for Phen24?
Like most of the supplements we review soon after they’re released, there wasn’t any online customer feedback for Phen24 at the time of our research. We did, however, come across numerous affiliate reviews that are often intended (based on our experience) to mislead instead of inform.
Speaking of research, we’ve written hundreds of in-depth reviews for a wide range of weight loss supplements over the years. In general, we’ve found that many HighYa readers complain that they don’t work, are priced too highly, and come with less-than-stellar customer support.
While we’re only telling you this so that you have a complete overview of the situation (not to necessarily insinuate you’ll experience the same with Phen24), with think it’ll be important to keep in mind.
What Do We Know About Phen24’s Manufacturer?
Phen24 is manufactured by BUQ Group Ltd based out of Glasgow, UK, and while they do have a website, it provides very little information about the company. It also doesn’t appear that BUQ Group manufactures any other products, with or without online feedback.
Will Phen24 Provide Long-Lasting Weight Loss?
When it comes down to it, the only proven methods of losing weight and keeping it off for the long-term are adhering to a sensible diet and exercising regularly. And while it’s positive that the company claims you’ll need to use the supplement along with diet and exercise, based on the available clinical evidence, we’re not sure how much extra boost you’ll get for your hard-earned money with Phen24.
