PhenTrim is a weight loss supplement that claims to be the product of years of research into appetite suppressants and the science behind their formulation.
The makers of the supplement state that unlike other supplements, PhenTrim features a formula designed to have less negative side effects, even going so far as to say that many users will not experience any at all.
The makers of the product claim that it performs two major functions for users; increasing the body’s mobility of fat while also increasing your metabolic rate, and reducing your appetite to allow you better control of your urges.
They state that the supplement will provide consistent, significant weight loss and increased energy.
The idea of a pill that could facilitate the weight loss we dream off is not a new one. For decades now, various products have been claiming to be the answer to all of our weight-related woes, each offering a surefire solution that will allow us to lose weight and keep it that way like never before.
In order to try and substantiate this claim for PhenTrim, let’s take a look at the actual science behind the claims made by its manufacturer.
Addressing The Science Behind PhenTrim’s Claims
The makers of PhenTrim claim that the product can actually increase the body’s “mobility of fat”, but what does this mean, exactly? Our best guess is that they are referring to how quickly the body moves fat through itself to process it down.
We were unable to find any medical data to support the assertion that a supplement can actually speed up this process, despite these claims.
The next claim is that the supplement can somehow boost your metabolic rate, or the rate at which your metabolism works to break down and process food, using some as energy and storing the rest as fat.
According to the Mayo Clinic, although there are several natural ways to burn fat more quickly, dietary pills and supplements are often not as effective as they claim to be.
With Appetite Suppressants in particular, though, how do these types of supplements claim to work, on the whole? Read on to find out.
How Do Appetite Suppressants Typically Work?
In general, appetite suppressants do exactly what their name suggests; they reduce our natural cravings for food so that we are able to eat less while still maintaining a normal lifestyle and schedule. These sorts of supplements often do their best to “block” the part of your brain that makes you feel hungry, all the while stimulating the part that makes you feel full.
According to a report by authorityweight.com, some varieties of appetite suppressants also work by slowing gastric emptying, which in turn makes you feel full for longer periods of time.
In general, though, these sorts of pills aren’t meant to be a “magic bullet” for weight loss. This article from WebMD states that while weight loss pills such as appetite suppressants can be a helpful part of a weight loss regimen overall, they should not be treated as a one-stop-shop to “fix” obesity. Instead, they should be used in conjunction with a healthy diet and lifestyle to create real results over a period of time.
Looking at PhenTrim specifically, we need to determine exactly how the supplement works inside the body in order to deliver on the promises set forth by the manufacturer. In the next section, we’ll take a look at the specific ingredients used in PhenTrim in an effort to determine just how effective you can expect the product to be overall.
What Ingredients Are Found In PhenTrim?
PhenTrim’s formula includes a host of ingredients that the manufacturer claims will work together to produce the results described on the product’s main website. In total, there are 6 ingredients used in the product’s formula; Caffeine Anhydrous, Beta-Phenylethylamine HCL, Synephrine HCL, Hordenine HCL, L-Theanine, and White Kidney Bean Extract.
In this section, let’s break down each of the above ingredients individually, using clinical data from websites like WebMd, Examine.com and Sciencedaily.com as reference points.
Caffeine is one of the world’s most commonly consumed chemicals. It can be found in an almost limitless variety of drinks, supplements, formulas and foods around the world. THere is plenty of medical evidence to support the manufacturer’s claim that Caffeine can enhance your energy and performance throughout the day, as the chemical’s effects have been well-documented over the years.
Phenethylamine is a chemical that can be found naturally in the human body. There has been early research into using the chemical for a number of different medical reasons, but as of yet, there is insufficient clinical evidence to support the claim that the substance can actually help you burn fat and lose weight.
Otherwise known as Bitter orange, this plant’s peel, flower, leaf, fruit, and fruit juice are all commonly used as medicine to treat a variety of conditions, though it remains largely unproven on many levels. Relating to weight loss specifically, there have been some studies showing that the plant might indeed be helpful for some, but another study seems to have negated these results.
Hordenine is a chemical that can be naturally found in certain plants, such as barley. The chemical is sometimes used in nutritional supplements, as well as for weight loss specifically, although there is currently insufficient evidence to prove that it can aid you in this department at all.
L-Theanine is an amino acid; the building blocks of proteins in the body. While the manufacturer claims that this substance relieves stress and anxiety, there is currently not enough authoritative evidence to support this claim medically.
White Kidney Bean Extract
This extract comes from bean pods, and a great variety of different beans have been used over the years for various medicinal purposes. WIth White Kidney Bean extracts in particular, conflicting evidence exists that shows that the extract might indeed be able to help support weight loss.
That being said, this effectiveness only seems to be present in those who eat a significant amount of carbohydrates. Those who do not consume a large amount of carbohydrates have been shown to not be affected by the extract.
Potential PhenTrim Side Effects
As is the case with any combination of ingredients such as those used in PhenTrim’s formula, a variety of side effects are possible when taking the supplement on a regular basis, or even just once.
It’s important to note here that it isn’t stated how much of each of the above ingredients are used in the product’s formula, and as of the time of this writing, customer service has not replied back with us to clarify.
Based on the ingredients alone, however, possible side effects that could crop up from taking PhenTrim include an increased risk of high blood pressure, fainting, heart attack, stroke, and other severe side effects. It’s best to consult with your doctor before starting to use this or any other similar product.
PhenTrim Pricing & Return Policy
PhenTrim is currently available either online or via the company's sales phone line. The product is available in three packages; a one month, two month, and three month supply (60, 120, or 180 pills, respectively). The pricing for these three options are laid out as follows:
- One month supply (60 pills) - $68.00
- Two month supply (120 pills) - $120.00
- Three month supply (180 pills) - $156.00
The product offers free shipping, with the option to pay $9.00 for what we assume is an expedited “standard” option. We aren’t told much about this option, however, and when we attempted to contact customer service via the phone number listed on the website, the number did not appear to be functioning.
As for the product’s return policy, it would appear that there are are no returns or refunds for products under normal circumstances. It looks as though you’ll need to reach out to customer service directly at 1-800-232-0890 to plead your case should you decide to try and pursue a refund, but seeing as the phone number listed was currently inoperable at the time of this writing, you may need to do so via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Final Verdict On PhenTrim
Taking a look at PhenTrim as a whole, we have a few concerns about the product, both in terms of the ingredients used, and the pricing policies that surround it.
As we’ve learned in the ingredients section above, most of the ingredients used in PhenTrim’s formula have not been proven to aid in weight loss of any kind, according to the authority sources listed in said section.
Ultimately, the science is clear: there is no magic shortcut to lose weight. The specific claims made by the makers of PhenTrim cannot be clinically substantiated by any of the ingredients used in the product, and this alone gives us pause.
When you couple this information with the fact the the company behind the product doesn’t accept refunds or returns according to their own website, you’re left with a somewhat troubling mental image of a product that might not be able to deliver on the claims made by its creators, based on the information we are given.
Taking a look online, it would appear that there are literally hundreds of different weight loss supplements on the market today. In fact, here at HighYa, we’ve covered literally hundreds of popular weight loss products in the past.
Based on this extensive experience, and the feedback from hundreds of our readers, what have we discovered about these sorts of supplements? Frankly, we’ve found that in many cases, they simply don’t work as described.
In a Consumer Reports study on weight loss supplements, it was found that 90% of supplement users felt that they did not experience the benefits described by the manufacturers of the products they purchased and used.
Knowing this, we’d honestly say that in lieu of purchasing one of these products, it might be a good idea instead to speak to a qualified professional about an evidence-backed, prescription-based product that might be able to provide more value to you over the long term.
