Not worth the money. Creates a cloud of smelly pee dust in just a week's time.

By Taylor M., Minnesota, Verified Reviewer

My wife and I have two cats and follow the recommended two bags of PrettyLitter per month. We clean the litter box every other day. After week one, every litter box cleaning creates a smelly cloud with an unpleasantry supassing any litter we have previously used. The advertisements are correct, "no clumping," instead, PrettyLitter creates a toxic flume of urine that that'll have you soon running to the nearest window gasping for fresh air.

Plus sides - the coloration in the litter lets you know the health of your cat, and it's is easy to clean. Another downside, the litter tracks everywhere.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Thanks for reaching out Taylor. We are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with PrettyLitter. It sounds like you were experiencing problems with saturation, which can happen when you don't have enough litter in your box. We'd love to figure out the perfect amount of litter for you and your furry friend! Please send us an email at meow@prettylitter.com (attn: Cassie) and we will be happy to help. Looking forward to hearing from you!

Do not buy this litter

By Patricia K., Ohio, Verified Reviewer

It does NOT work.

It's a great concept, but the litter doesn't work well. It tracks everywhere and only lasts three weeks at best before smelling so bad (with daily cleaning) you will choke.

I have a sick kitty. I was recently at the vet and none of his urine showed a change of color in the litter. Also, the fine sand stuck to him, and he got an infection from it.

The customer service people are weeks behind in responses. They didn't honor coupons on charges, and I've been fighting a double charge with them for 3 months. They take 3 weeks to get back to you.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not good for multiples - does not control odor

By Barbara P., Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

This litter does not work for multiple cats, each bag is too is little, the cost is over the top. Also, the website has been down for account access for two days and they don’t respond to emails. Someone did respond via messenger, but it still isn’t addressed so I can’t cancel my next order. We tried for two cycles and the odor is escalating. We gave it plenty of time.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Thanks for sharing your experience Barbara. We're sorry to hear your experience with PrettyLitter was less than perfect. It sounds like you were having issues with saturation, which can cause PrettyLitter's odor-blocking technology to weaken. That being said, we'd love the opportunity to give you the experience you deserve. Please send over an email to meow@prettylitter.com (attn: Marissa), and we'd be more than happy to help you find the perfect amount of litter for your household. Looking forward to talking with you!

Couldn't believe it!

By Karen, Naples, FL, Verified Reviewer

When I heard that one bag would last for a month, I couldn't believe it. I ordered it anyway and I have been amazed that the product works exactly as they describe. As long as you remove the solid waste daily and stir the litter, there is absolutely zero odor. I am a believer and will use this litter from now on.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Doesn't clump

By Lillian Newman, Boston, MA, Verified Reviewer

I was so hopeful for this litter, but after four days I threw it all out. It's impossible to scoop out any urine since it doesn't clump, so when you try to, it just spreads all throughout the litter. My cat's paws smelled disgusting because it does such a poor job controlling odor even when they bury their waste. It was a cool idea but I found out recently that there is another product that does the exact same job detecting illness in cats and all you have to do is sprinkle it on top. I wouldn't recommend this litter to anyone.

Hi Lillian,

Thanks for your comment. PrettyLitter's top compliment from customers is the odor control, but I believe you when you say you had problems because we should have made it more clear. We're proud to say that PrettyLitter is a non-clumping litter. Many of our customers come from clay clumping litter brands and it takes some time for them to get acclimated to the concept of silica litter. With PrettyLitter, the urine is absorbed, the odor eliminated and the moisture evaporated. Just mix the litter and scoop the poop.

It would be helpful if you reached out letting us know how much depth you had in the litter box, the number of cats using the litter box, how many bags you had in each box and how many litter boxes you had. We're happy to help you by providing instructions of how to properly use PrettyLitter as well as send complimentary bags of PrettyLitter for subscribers willing to give PrettyLitter another try. Please email us at meow@prettylitter.com for further information.

Never again

By Sarah Hanson, Charlotte, NC, Verified Reviewer

I have a regular size litter box for one cat. I ordered the recommended size, and it arrived yesterday. It was less than one inch deep in my litter box. For kitty litter "to work" there must be over two inches of litter in the box. "Otherwise, the urine pools at the bottom and shortens the life of the litter." The company claims that one bag is enough to fill a medium sized litter box two inches deep. My litter box is regular/normal size. Nothing fancy at all. There was a note on the card that said to call if you did not have at least 2 inches of litter for one cat and "they would take care of it." I called, and the representative said they could send me another four pounds of litter out to me for free. When I asked about that not being enough since it was LESS than one inch, she told me that they have a six-pound bag. She asked me to hold, came back on the line, told me that she had already processed my "payment" and changed my subscription to $39 per month. I was charged for the six-pound bag so that there would be enough litter in the box.

I was not asked before my card was charged. This is unacceptable. I also will not pay $40 for cat litter for one month. The litter changes color if there is a potential color but they do not tell you what the potential issue may be just to take the cat to the vet, with no other help to explain the abnormalities in the cat to the vet. I am not impressed. Actually, very disappointed in this company. It is very misleading. "They will take care of it" means that they will charge you another $20 without permission.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Awful customer service and a crap product

By Kelly R., Orlando, FL, Verified Reviewer

This litter isn't even close to anything they claim it is. It's super lightweight, so it tracks EVERYWHERE. The urine doesn't clump so your poor cat box just gets more and more urine added to it, and it doesn't "mix" in as they claim. The smell is awful, and it absolutely does NOT last for a month. After three weeks, my cat started using my rugs to pee instead of the box full of pee. When I reached out to the company, I got no response except to bill me and send me another bag. I was asking to cancel my subscription. I think it might seriously hurt your cat. Don't waste your time or money.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Pretty Litter Inc.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Kelly. PrettyLitter shouldn't be tracking more than any other litters, but (as you mentioned) our product is very lightweight, so it can sometimes be kicked out of the box.

PrettyLitter was designed to solve for all the pain points of owning a litter box- a lightweight litter that has health monitoring, low dust, and the best odor control. We take product complaints seriously and will be sure to record your feedback about the tracking and odor control.

Smelling an odor from your PrettyLitter is a sign that it's time to change your litter, which should occur at the end of the month. Saturation and odor control issues that occur before the end of the month usually mean you don't have enough depth of PrettyLitter to absorb the urine. This significantly decreases the life of the litter and the effectiveness of odor control and health monitoring. We suggest at least 2 inches of depth in your litter box for optimum use.

If you'd like to give us another try, please reach out to our support team at meow@prettylitter.com. We'd love the chance to give you the experience you were expecting!

I wanted this to work

By Samantha R., Bensalem, PA, Verified Reviewer

I was excited about buying this litter because a previous cat I owned had urinary issues and I would love to be able to keep track of my cat's health before he starts showing signs. The litter was also very light and seemed like it tracked around the house less, and I loved not having to scoop anything besides the stool.

Unfortunately, the litter did not absorb any of the urine odor. The smell became so bad I had to throw out the litter in about two weeks. My cat also has two litter boxes - one upstairs in the second bathroom with the PrettyLitter and one in the basement with Tidy Cats. So he only used the PrettyLitter box about half of the time. I can't imagine how bad the smell would have been if this was his only box.

I did try it for two months, just in case, and even added baking soda to the second bag of PrettyLitter, but it did nothing to mask the smell. I ended up just canceling my subscription because it seems very pricey for less than two weeks of litter. I'm hoping in the future there is something that can track a cat's urinary health and absorbs odor but, sadly, this is not it.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Thanks for reaching out, Samantha. We're happy to hear of your excitement to use PrettyLitter and we'd love the opportunity to help make it work for you! Odor issues are usually caused by not having enough depth of PrettyLitter in your litter box. We recommend filling each litter box to a minimum of two inches per cat. That usually means one bag per cat, but it can vary! There are many different sizes of litter box, and it sounds like yours might be on the larger size.

We want to make sure you get to experience PrettyLitter's advanced odor control technology as intended, so please email us at meow@prettylitter.com (attn: Cassie), and we'll make this right for you! We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Nope

By Tam O., Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

I had good results at first. My kitty prefers this litter. But I don't. First of all, even when the bag would last me almost through the month (three weeks), it tracks all over the darn house. I have hardwood floors so this is not okay. Second, after about five months of using this litter, a bag only lasts me two weeks tops. I have two inches in his box, and still, it is blue jelly by the end of week two. And my house reeks. I recently changed the litter and went out of town for a week, leaving very clear instructions for his sitter. When I got back home, I was overwhelmed with the smell.

For me, the pine and corn litters work way better at controlling odor and not tracking. Sadly, my cat is bougie and likes this dusty, sandy consistency on PrettyLitter, so I have to retrain him to use the stuff that doesn't stink and leave a mess all over my house. This stuff is way too expensive to track like it does, even if the smell wasn't an issue. Bummer.

Update

By Jason H., Utah, Verified Reviewer

While the product is actually a really fantastic litter of a very high quality, I had a pretty bad experience that makes it hard to trust them with my credit card details.

I set my account to bill every other month, yet I kept getting hit every month. Each time I got it, I would log in to be absolutely positively sure that it was set to only happen every other month, yet it kept happening every month.

My first contact with customer support on this issue was not pleasant at all. The rep argued with me and didn't offer to do anything to solve the problem. They also tried to tell me that my credit card information was no longer on file, even though I can plainly see that the information is still there by logging into my account.

However, after I contacted different representatives, they eventually did end up reimbursing a significant portion of the erroneous orders, while letting me keep the product. At the end of the day, I am made more than whole, but it was still a frustrating experience. It would've been best if they never had the billing errors to begin with, but the first contact with support was the thing that really got to me.

I will probably go back when I run out of all this litter. Ultimately, it is really good litter. And they did make it right.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

All of your litter problems are solved with PrettyLitter!

By Melissa L., Millers, MD, Verified Reviewer

We have been using PrettyLitter for over a year and we won’t go back! My favorite part about it is that it is dust-free and easy to maintain! The urine dissolves back into the litter which keeps it clean and easy to scoop! We have 2 cats, one has kidney issues and our litter does change colors as they say it will. We use 2 bags every 2 months, which is a stretch, but if you keep it clean it will last much longer than traditional litter! It is a great value for the length of time it lasts and the benefits you get from it. I was so tired of dust clouds of litter all over our room with our old litter. Now I don’t have to worry about that, which makes this litter worth every penny to me! It is much more compact than the huge bags of litter you buy at the store, but it really goes a long way!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
