Knew it was too good to be true!

By Diane H., Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

I have two cats and have only been using PrettyLitter for two weeks tomorrow. My cats seem to like it, I love the convenience of not having to run out for litter every week and the daily scooping is a breeze. However, it has only been two weeks and the litter box smells of urine, which I never had an odor with regular litter. Plus it does cost more than what I always paid for litter. For me, it will never last a month. I knew it was too good to be true.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Thanks for reaching out and sharing your experience, Diane! We'd love the opportunity to help. Odor issues are usually caused by not having enough depth of PrettyLitter in your litter box. We recommend filling each litter box to a minimum of two inches per cat. That usually means one bag per cat, but it can vary! There are many different sizes of the litter box, and it sounds like yours might be on the larger size (which makes sense if your cats share).

We want to make sure you get to experience PrettyLitter's advanced odor control technology as intended, so please email us at meow@prettylitter.com (attn: Cassie) and we'll make this right for you! We look forward to hearing from you soon!

I wanted this to work

By Samantha R., Bensalem, PA, Verified Reviewer

I was excited about buying this litter because a previous cat I owned had urinary issues and I would love to be able to keep track of my cat's health before he starts showing signs. The litter was also very light and seemed like it tracked around the house less, and I loved not having to scoop anything besides the stool.

Unfortunately, the litter did not absorb any of the urine odor. The smell became so bad I had to throw out the litter in about two weeks. My cat also has two litter boxes - one upstairs in the second bathroom with the PrettyLitter and one in the basement with Tidy Cats. So he only used the PrettyLitter box about half of the time. I can't imagine how bad the smell would have been if this was his only box.

I did try it for two months, just in case, and even added baking soda to the second bag of PrettyLitter, but it did nothing to mask the smell. I ended up just canceling my subscription because it seems very pricey for less than two weeks of litter. I'm hoping in the future there is something that can track a cat's urinary health and absorbs odor but, sadly, this is not it.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Love the concept, but...

By Tee W., Atlanta, GA, Verified Reviewer

I love the idea of this type of long-lasting, clean-smelling, low-dust litter. There are a number of non-clay litters that promise this, clumping and otherwise. I've just about tried them all. The other litter claiming 30+ days in between litter box changes is America's Best. It actually has every attribute claimed by PrettyLitter, plus it clumps nicely. But, it is beyond dusty, coating EVERYTHING within the vicinity with red dust every time my boy sifts the stuff. YUK.

Another one actually is Nature's Miracle (and it's economical) corn-based litter. The issue there is that it sticks to the side of the box. So, when I saw this crystalline powder and all these promises, including spending no more than I currently do, I got excited to try it. Suffice it to say, it is not economical in the least when the 3-4 lb bag can't provide the requisite two to three inches of kitty litter for a large litter box. I would either need two bags or a very small litter box. My boy is big. He's not a monster (despite what I call him).

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Nope

By Tam O., Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

I had good results at first. My kitty prefers this litter. But I don't. First of all, even when the bag would last me almost through the month (three weeks), it tracks all over the darn house. I have hardwood floors so this is not okay. Second, after about five months of using this litter, a bag only lasts me two weeks tops. I have two inches in his box, and still, it is blue jelly by the end of week two. And my house reeks. I recently changed the litter and went out of town for a week, leaving very clear instructions for his sitter. When I got back home, I was overwhelmed with the smell.

For me, the pine and corn litters work way better at controlling odor and not tracking. Sadly, my cat is bougie and likes this dusty, sandy consistency on PrettyLitter, so I have to retrain him to use the stuff that doesn't stink and leave a mess all over my house. This stuff is way too expensive to track like it does, even if the smell wasn't an issue. Bummer.

Not worth the money. Creates a cloud of smelly pee dust in just a week's time.

By Taylor M., Minnesota, Verified Reviewer

My wife and I have two cats and follow the recommended two bags of PrettyLitter per month. We clean the litter box every other day. After week one, every litter box cleaning creates a smelly cloud with an unpleasantry supassing any litter we have previously used. The advertisements are correct, "no clumping," instead, PrettyLitter creates a toxic flume of urine that that'll have you soon running to the nearest window gasping for fresh air.

Plus sides - the coloration in the litter lets you know the health of your cat, and it's is easy to clean. Another downside, the litter tracks everywhere.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Thanks for reaching out Taylor. We are sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with PrettyLitter. It sounds like you were experiencing problems with saturation, which can happen when you don't have enough litter in your box. We'd love to figure out the perfect amount of litter for you and your furry friend! Please send us an email at meow@prettylitter.com (attn: Cassie) and we will be happy to help. Not as advertised

By Kari J., Washington, Verified Reviewer

I was super excited to start using PrettyLitter for three reasons:

1) It would be delivered to my home.

2) It is said to be virtually dust-free.

3) It is said to absorb and eliminate urine odor

The only one which is true is that it does get delivered to your home.

Unfortunately, not only is it NOT "virtually dust-free," but quite the opposite - it creates an abhorrent amount of fine dust when being scooped (it's as if someone were sanding drywall). I have to scoop a little, move away to breathe, then come back to scoop more - or wear a mask.

The odor is the worst part about this litter. I've been using it for two weeks, and I can say the odor is definitely not being absorbed by the crystals (yes, I do follow the directions to mix it in). The amount of litter I was provided was supposed to not need replacing for one month. It's been two weeks, and I've reached my limit with the urine smell. I am going to the store to pick up something else so I can get this smell out of my home.

If I can update this later, I'll let you know how well PrettyLitter does at honoring their satisfaction guarantee.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Thanks for reaching our Kari. We're sorry to hear you had a less than perfect experience using PrettyLitter, and we’d love the chance to make it right for you. If your PrettyLitter isn’t lasting the whole month in terms of odor control and duration, it’s usually because you didn’t get enough depth in your litter box. That being said, we'd love the opportunity to give you the experience you deserve. Please send over an email to meow@prettylitter.com (attn: Cassie), and we'd be more than happy to help. Looking forward to talking with you!

Not as advertised

By Sara S., California, Verified Reviewer

This litter does NOT absorb urine as it claims. It just sits there in puddles until peed on again. This then makes it turn from yellow to a dark green color suggesting my cat is unwell, but the blue/green color is only the result of double urine exposure. One bag definitely does not last a month, more like a week. Would be great if the product delivered its claims, but they have a lot of work left to do if that's going to be the case. So for now, save your money!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Thanks for sharing your experience Sara! We'd love the chance to make it right. It sounds like the reason your litter box started to change color and smell is because of saturation. Everyone uses litter boxes of all shapes and sizes, and this can affect the duration and odor control of PrettyLitter. Please email us at meow@prettylitter.com (attn: Marissa), and I'll be happy to help you find the perfect amount of litter for your litter box. Looking forward to talking with you!

Tracks and smells

By Cydney D., Oklahoma City, OK, Verified Reviewer

About the product:

1. It literally gets tracked all over my house.

2. By the end of one month my cat has basically turned the entire contents yellow and it smells after just two weeks. Since you’re only scooping poop the litter gets peed on multiple times over.

3. Shipping – it is constantly a long turnaround time.

4. Above all things – overpriced.

I like the concept but ultimately the smell and the manner of it don’t hold up to its claims. I have to sweep every day and we keep the litter in a room because it does smell.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

No no no no

By Susan B., Tampa, FL, Verified Reviewer

On the 4th month of subscription delivery, noted a blue change in the litter so I brought my cat to the vet. Turns out that after bloodwork and urine tests the cat was healthy. The vet told me blue was also an indication litter needed to be changed. I didn't suspect the litter was flawed. Meaning blue was not just an indicator of just one thing with this litter.

So I was stressed out about the health of my cat, future vet bills involved with a diabetic cat, my cat stressed out from going to the vet's office being poked and prodded the current vet bill, and then with the litter only lasting half the time meant double my litter bill too. I have 3 cats 4 litter boxes. That is the recommended ratio of litter boxes to cats. I get 4 bags of litter on the subscription, except for the first month. I got 3 because I kept a box with the clay clumping litter to see how my pets would react.

In reading the reviews here, yes it only lasts half the advertised times, yes it is not completely dust free, and yes the silva sand-like litter gets everywhere. I even put a grate down in front of litter boxes and it does not contain it.

Yohan was my email contact at PrettyLitter and took it upon himself to cancel my subscription because I mentioned just about all these issues. This product is not as advertised. 3 months at $80 plus the 1 month at $60-$70. Can't remember exactly what three bags cost.

Also, in all the low rates reviews PrettyLitter claims your problem is rare. That is not true. All those high reviews I bet at least half are paid reviews. Learned a big lesson when buying, "don't pay attention to the 4 and 5-star rated reviews, go to the 1-3 star ratings to get the real story behind a product". There are other litters out there, you don't need PrettyLitter since criticism from true reviews of their product isn't taken to improve the product but makes them throw you out of their program.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

No “pros” were specified in this review

Product doesn't last as advertised

Product is not dust free, only less dust than clay clumping litter

Doesn't listen to customers and plays down real reviews

Disappointed

By Michelle D., Wheeling, WV, Verified Reviewer

I raved about this product to my family when I first got it, but even though I’ve followed the directions as I am supposed to, after 2 weeks the litter smells so bad like pee and the crystals are completely yellow. It didn’t even last a month. I canceled my subscription. I’d rather pick up pee clumps than smell this every time I clean my kitten's little box. I’m sad it didn’t work like they said, now I’m going to have to look for something different.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Quick and free shipping

Good price

Canceled my subscription easily

Their product isn’t to their description

It smells so bad after 2 weeks

Gets everywhere

Works great, sometimes.

By Theresa McMenamin, Portage, MI, Verified Reviewer

When I first heard about PrettyLitter, I had to have it! Our cat was tracking the old litter everywhere and making a mess.

When we first got our litter, it worked just as it said. Hardly any odor at all, she was not tracking it, etc. We got the second bag, and there was a lot of dust, making it hard to mix and scoop the poop out. The third bag was the worst I believe. The litter turned a dark yellow, even though I had been mixing it regularly (three times a day), after two weeks. The odor gets so bad sometimes that it actually burns my nose and throat.

I'm still using the product as my cat is prone to UTIs and this has caught two of them early, but it's like a different litter with each bag you get.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Thanks for reaching out to share your experience, Theresa. We’re so happy to hear PrettyLitter’s early detection health-monitoring is working for you and your feline friend, and solving your tracking problem! We would like to take a look at the inconsistency between the bags you’ve received though.

We’re very proud of this product and want to make sure it’s always working as intended! The odor issue you’re describing sounds like it’s due to saturation of the crystals that absorb your kitty’s urine. I’d love to chat with you about what might be happening and solve the inconsistencies you’ve described.

You rely on our product, so we want to make sure your experience with PrettyLitter is always consistent. Our obligation is to you and your feline family members, and your feedback means the world to us. Please send us an email at meow@prettylitter.co with 'Attn: Cassie' on the subject line, and I’ll be happy to set up a time to chat!
