What Is Rest & Restore RX?
Using a proprietary, all-natural formula to help repair and rebuild your body’s ability to fall—and stay—asleep, Rest & Restore RX is a dietary supplement that promises to target insomnia and sleeplessness, night after night.
Specifically, the supplement claims to help increase certain nutrient levels that activate GABA receptors, thereby allowing your body to better replenish melatonin. In turn, they claim you’ll be able to wake up rested and restored for the day ahead—and all of this without the use of prescription drugs, other over the counter products, or alcohol.
Bottom line: Is Rest & Restore RX your answer for improved sleep? Will its ingredients really help you find relief from insomnia? Give us a few minutes and we’ll explore many of your core questions.
What Causes Insomnia & Poor Sleep?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that the average adult aged 18-60 should get seven or more hours of sleep per night. Under or over these limits, and the need for sleep only increases.
Sometimes, life circumstances dictate that we don’t get the recommended amount of sleep (i.e. catching an early flight, a newborn baby, etc.), which can lead to some of the side effects mentioned on the Rest & Restore RX website like daytime sleepiness, clumsiness, weight loss or gain, and reduced cognitive function.
If this happens occasionally, it’s deemed acute; if it occurs regularly, however, a doctor might diagnose it as chronic.
Comparatively, Medscape reports that insomnia is often diagnosed when an individual regularly cannot get enough sleep, even when they have the opportunity to do so, which is a condition that’s thought to affect nearly 25 percent of the population.
Causes run the gamut; from stress and certain medications to psychological issues and chronic pain. Common treatments, which largely depend on a patient’s specific diagnosis, include:
- Cognitive and behavioral techniques like relaxation training, stimulus control, and cognitive behavioral therapy
- Prescription medications
- Lifestyle changes (when and what you eat and drink, exercising, stopping smoking, and so forth)
What about the ingredients found in Rest & Restore RX?
Taking a Closer Look at Rest & Restore RX’s Ingredients
There wasn’t a supplement facts label listed on the Rest & Restore RX website at the time of our research. We reached out to three different customer support reps looking for a copy, although each one told us they didn’t have any information available about the supplement.
Furthermore, there was a link at the bottom of the supplement’s website indicating that it provided “evidence of a test, analysis, research or study describing the benefits, performance or efficacy of product ingredients based on the expertise of relevant professionals.” However, this link wasn’t functional at the time of our research.
Also, the ingredients referenced in the site’s FAQ were related more to skin tags and some kind of digestive supplement; not anything identifiable as being contained in Rest & Restore RX.
With this said, here were the ingredients listed in its promotional video:
- Vitamin B6
By taking 400-900 mg of valerian extract up to two hours before bedtime, sites like the Natural Medicines Database, WebMD, and Examine.com indicated that it might help modestly reduce the time to fall asleep (usually somewhere between 14 and 17 minutes). This might especially be the case when combined with other herbs, such as hops.
Similarly, anywhere between 0.3mg and 5mg of melatonin may shorten the amount of time it takes for those with insomnia to fall asleep, but only by about 12 minutes. WebMD indicates there is some evidence that melatonin is more likely to help older individuals than younger people or children, but that it doesn’t actually improve the amount of time someone spends sleeping.
Outside of valerian and melatonin, though, these same sites indicated there’s insufficient clinical evidence that any other of Rest & Restore RX’s ingredients can fulfill any of the manufacturer’s claims regarding sleep.
And even for those that might, based on the lack of information on the site and from customer support, we can’t know how much the formula contains, and whether it’s the same amount referenced in related trials.
What About Potential Rest & Restore RX Side Effects?
Natural Medicines, WebMD, and Examine reported that most of the supplement’s ingredients should be well tolerated by most individuals.
However, while no dosages or specific circumstances were noted, chamomile belongs to the same plant family as ragweed, marigolds, and daisies, so it can cause allergic reactions in some instances.
Also, while melatonin had been used safely for up to two years, WebMD mentions that it can cause some side effects like “headache, short-term feelings of depression, daytime sleepiness, dizziness, stomach cramps, and irritability.”
Also, they emphasize that you should not drive or use machinery for four to five hours after taking melatonin.
How Much Does Rest & Restore RX Cbost?
The supplement was available in the following quantities:
- 1 Bottle: $49
- 3 Bottles: $112 ($37.33 per bottle)
- 6 Bottles: $209 ($34.83 per bottle)
All orders come with free shipping within the U.S., as well as a 30-day refund policy. Important: However, per the terms listed on their website, packages cannot be opened or used. Even then, all refunds are subject to a $5 restocking fee per unit.
To request a refund, customer support can be reached at (888) 422-9040 or through the contact form on their site.
How Does Rest & Restore RX’s Price Compare to Other Sleep Supplements?
As we discussed earlier, insomnia is a condition that affects a significant portion of the population at one time or another, so it makes sense that a lot of natural dietary supplements have entered the marketplace in order to help customers find a solution.
With this said, we found hundreds of different sleep supplement formulations on Google Shopping and at marketplaces like Amazon, many of which contained the same key ingredients (valerian and melatonin) as Rest & Restore RX. Price-wise, the options largely ranged between $10 and $30, with some exceeding $80.
When trying to decide which option is for you, the best is to start by speaking with your doctor, whether you’re thinking about taking a supplement or otherwise. Then, they’ll be able to run the appropriate tests and make science-backed recommendations based on your specific diagnosis.
The next thing to keep in mind is that, according to many respected health organizations like the National Institutes of Health, otherwise healthy individuals do not need to take dietary supplements. This is even more of a reason to discuss your thoughts with your doctor.
Outside of this, choosing the right sleep supplement largely comes down to factors like:
- Does the manufacturer provide a copy of the label, including dosages?
- Is the company easy to reach? Are support personnel friendly and eager to answer your questions?
- What are other customers saying about the company and their supplements? Do you notice any common compliments or complaints?
- Are there any mandatory free trials? Will you be signed up for an automatic recurring shipping program after placing an order?
Our Final Thoughts About the Rest & Restore RX Supplement
While we didn’t encounter any online customer feedback for Rest & Restore RX at the time of our research and we didn’t test it ourselves, the manufacturer offered a 30-day refund policy. This way, if you’re dissatisfied, you might not be out more than a few dollars in return shipping charges.
Perhaps more importantly, though, is the fact that the manufacturer didn’t provide a label or dosages for any of the supplement’s ingredients, and that customer service wasn’t able to provide additional details. In essence, this means you’ll be putting a largely unknown substance in your body.
