About Shred JYM
Created by Dr. Jim Stoppani, Shred JYM is a nutritional supplement that claims to be a three-stage fat burning system that can help you achieve safe and effective weight loss. In order to accomplish this, Shred JYM is claimed to contain 6 research-backed ingredients in their proper doses to give you the results you want.
If you’re already working out regularly and eating a sensible diet, can Shred GYM help give you an added boost in your effort to lose weight? And once all the marketing hype has been moved aside, is the supplement worth your hard-earned money?
How Shred JYM Claims to Work
Shred JYM is claimed to attack body fat from three different angles: 1) Release, which occurs when fat is released from cells, 2) Transport, which is accomplished by carrying more fat from your cells into the mitochondria, where it can be used for energy, and 3) Burn, which happens when your metabolic rate is increased and you burn more fat.
According to the Shred GYM website, the fat-burning ingredients it contains are backed by science, and are provided in the correct doses found to be most effective. These include:
- Acetyl-L-Carnitine HCL 1.5g – Helps transport fat across the mitochondria of cells, where it is oxidized into ATP and turned into energy.
- L-Tyrosine 500mg – An amino acid that may increase alertness, mental focus, mood and energy, while also aiding fat loss.
- Green tea leaf extract 500mg – Contains epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which may break down norepinephrine, a neurotransmitter that regulates metabolism.
- Caffeine anhydrous 200mg – Can enhance alertness and brain function, and may help you burn more calories.
- Capsimax Cayenne pepper fruit 50mg – Contains capsaicin, which may boost metabolism and reduce appetite.
- Advantra Z Synephrine 20mg – May increase cell fat loss and decrease appetite.
In order to begin using Shred GYM, you should take 4 capsules 2-3 times per day between meals. It is recommend that you not take Shred JYM within 6 hours of bed time, as the stimulants contained in it might prevent you from sleeping.

What Do Other Consumers Have to Say About Shred JYM?
Overall, Shred JYM (and JYM products in general) appears to have a very positive online customer reputation, and holds a 9.2 (out of 10) average customer rating on Bodybuilding.com. Some of the most common compliments related to the supplement are that it helped slim down, increased energy without jitteriness, and decreased appetite. In fact, SuppWithThat.com actually stated “Shred JYM provides the best balance of safety and efficacy that we've seen in any fat-burner.”
However, not all customers were satisfied with their Shred JYM purchase. As such, some of the most common complaints referenced failure to work, upset stomach/cramping, dry mouth, difficulty sleeping, and the number of pills that needs to be taken per day.
Can Shred JYM Really Help You Burn Fat & Lose Weight?
Dr. Jim Stoppani has a very good reputation among athletes and fitness enthusiasts, and is widely known for his workout programs, supplements, and his book titled Jim Stoppani’s Encyclopedia of Muscle & Strength. But does this necessarily mean that you can expect to lose weight using Shred JYM? Maybe, but keep the following in mind:
Are Shred JYM’s Ingredients Backed by Science?
Among many of the nutritional supplements we’ve reviewed at HighYa, the Shred JYM website provide one of the most thorough listings for clinical references that we’ve come across. In addition, it’s refreshing to see that there are no proprietary formulations contained in the supplement, which means that all doses for each ingredient are listed.
However, from a layman’s perspective, just how effective are these ingredients at helping you to burn fat?
According to WebMD, Acetyl-L-Carnitine may be effective for treating memory issues in the elderly and those with Alzheimer’s, as well as treating male fertility and testosterone issues. However, there is insufficient evidence showing it can help you lose weight in any way. L-Tyrosine can help treat some types of fatigue and the ECGC contained in green tea leaf extract may help reduce high cholesterol and increase mental alertness, but neither has sufficient evidence showing they can boost weight loss. And while caffeine can certainly improve your mental alertness and decrease appetite, there is no direct correlation between it and losing weight.
Furthermore, while the capsaicin contained in Capsimax can help provide a wide range of benefits, whether or not it reliably acts as an appetite suppressant remains to be seen. And finally, the synephrine (often derived from Citrus aurantium, also known as bitter orange) contained in Advantra Z is a stimulant very similar to the now banned ephedra. WebMD has this to say: “But bitter orange is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when taken as a supplement for a medical purpose such as weight loss. Bitter orange, particularly when taken with stimulants such as caffeine or caffeine-containing herbs, increases the risk for high blood pressure, fainting, heart attack, stroke, and other severe side effects.”
Finally, it’s important to note that the Shred JYM website puts a lot of emphasis on the fact that the supplement contains 2,750 mg of active ingredients, and claims that “there are no products that come anywhere close to delivering [this amount].” However, keep in mind that different ingredients require different dosages, so this isn’t exactly comparing apples to apples.
Bottom line: Our Review on Shredy JYM
Despite the lack of strong clinical evidence showing that any of the ingredients contained in Shred JYM can help you lose weight, JYM products in general, and Shred JYM in particular, seem to have a very positive online customer reputation. And in the event you’re dissatisfied, Bodybuilding.com appears to offer a sensible exchange/refund policy.
