The Silk’n FaceFX is manufactured by Home Skinovations Inc., who holds an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau, and has no complaints within the past three years. Regarding the FaceFX specifically, overall customer satisfaction appears to be mixed, with the most common complaints citing failure to work as advertised and poor quality.
How Silk’n FaceFX Works
According to Silk’n, their FDA-cleared FaceFX device uses red light to penetrate your skin, boost collagen production, and improve its overall color and texture. It claims to accomplish this by dividing this powerful red light into smaller parts, thereby making it safe for home use, while still providing you with professional results.
The Silk’n FaceFX is claimed to be a long-term anti-aging solution intended to treat areas around the eyes, cheeks, forehead, mouth, and neck, and to help diminish the appearance of wrinkles, improve the texture of your skin, and reduce pore size.
To use the Silk’n FaceFX device, simply press it to your face, at which point the LEDs will light up. The company claims all layers of your skin will then be gently heated and stimulated using:
- Active HF Technology – Regenerates the top layer of your skin, and helps address fine lines, wrinkles, and clogged pores.
- Deep HF technology – Penetrates deeply to address skin discoloration and more pronounced wrinkles.
The product’s website claims you may experience some slight redness immediately after your treatment, though this should subside quickly. They also recommend applying your favorite moisturizing cream to your face in order to help soothe and hydrate your skin, as heat from the FaceFX can cause dryness.
Silk’n FaceFX Pricing & Refund Policy
If purchased directly through the company, the Silk’n FaceFX currently costs $199 with free shipping, and also includes their Dead See Mineral Cream as a free bonus. However, many Silk’n products are also available through Amazon.com, Sephora, Bed Bath & Beyond, Costco, Target, and more.
The FaceFX comes with a 30-day money back guarantee, less a 20% handling surcharge. In order to begin the process, you’ll need to contact customer service at 877-DO-SILKN to obtain a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number. If purchased through a third party, returns and refunds will be handled through their individual policies.
Bottom Line: Is Silk’n FaceFX a Scam?
With all this information in mind, the big question is: Is Silk’n FaceFX a Scam? While the company appears to offer a legitimate product, there are some concerns you should keep in mind prior to placing your order.
First, the Silk’n FaceFX device is FDA-cleared, not approved. This simply means that it is “"substantially equivalent to a device that is already legally marketed for the same use,” not that it has undergone the rigorous testing required to obtain FDA approval. In layman’s terms, this means the FaceFX performs similarly to at least one other product on the market, though we’re not sure how it differentiates itself.
Second, home LED beauty therapies as a whole often have a reputation for providing mediocre results. As with the LightStim, this is typically due to the fact that they don’t provide enough deep-penetrating light to give you all the benefits you may find from professional equipment at a physician’s office.
Finally, while Silk’n and Home Skinovations Inc. seem to have relatively good online reputations, the general consensus regarding the FaceFX device seems to be mixed, with the most common complaints citing failure to work as advertised and poor quality. In fact, during our research, we encountered numerous customers complaining that their FaceFX didn’t work, even right out of the box.
No results, not a fan
I bought this as a gift for my Mom as she is in her late 50' s and has been experiencing changes in her skin. Collagen being most important to her research as she has been taking active Collagen by Lorna, six capsules daily for close to five years now, she swears by it but still felt she needed something more to stimulate her elasticity. It has been close to three months with no results other than abnormal dryness and irritation, angry skin, redness, and strange breakouts around her chin and mouth area. She gave up and left the device to me to try. I'm in my early 30's and paid good money for it, so I too tried it. The first month I had to stop as it was drying out my skin. I think I have excellent skin and have never had to wear foundation. It took two weeks to correct my dryness and redness. I had to go as far as applying BB tint moisture foundation to my embarrassing patches. I'm not a fan and tried to sell it on Craigslist. Still no takers as it is very pricey. I guess I will have to take a hit if I want it sold.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
