Skinny Coffee Club is a beverage-based weight-loss program that promises to help you lose weight without changing up your routine.

It’s their primary goal to help you turn your existing caffeine addiction into a healthy addition. The company claims their coffee is “tasty,” organic, and designed specifically to raise your metabolism so that you burn fat and have more energy. They state that each coffee variety is formulated with all-natural ingredients that set your body up for efficient weight loss.

Drinking coffee to shed unwanted pounds? We decided to look closer at Skinny Coffee Club to help you determine whether you should switch out your morning brew in the hopes of losing belly fat.

How Does Skinny Coffee Club Work?

To get the best results, Skinny Coffee Club suggests drinking one cup of coffee first thing in the morning so that the brew’s active ingredients get you alert right away. They also sell special decaf brews for evening drinks.

You can brew each cup by pouring a mug of near-boiling water and a teaspoon of coffee into a French press and letting it infuse for three to five minutes before drinking.

It’s also possible to use a Keurig or standard coffee maker. The company recommends against adding milk or sugar to your drink, though nut milk with stevia is permitted.

Skinny Coffee Club also provides a flexible eating plan via an ebook to complement your coffee drinking. You’ll receive the ebook via email once you complete checkout, and the company claims that following its tips will help you achieve maximum results.

According to the company’s self-reported survey results, more than 90% of users find that the coffee suppressed their appetite, improved their energy, and helped them lose weight within a week of using it.

Do Skinny Coffee Club drinks really contain what you need to lose weight? Below is the full ingredients list for each product offered at the time of writing:

Within these ingredients, a few compounds stand out for their potential for promoting weight loss. We’ve gone into more detail below.

Green Coffee Bean Extract

According to Medical News Today, green coffee beans are considered one of the world’s most popular weight loss ingredients. They contain a substance called chlorogenic acid which purportedly reduces your body’s absorption of carbohydrates, which lowers blood sugar levels and prevents insulin spikes. However, human studies haven’t been conclusive about the overall effectiveness.

Green Tea Extract Powder

From what we learned on Healthline, green tea extract is a good source of antioxidants and is thought to regulate the hormones that enhance thermogenesis, which makes your body more effective at burning calories. Human studies show taking green tea extract can lead to 179 more calories burned each day.

Garcinia Cambogia

Our research of garcinia cambogia shows it is a popular weight loss supplement because of the hydroxycitric acid (HCA) in the fruit’s rind. This acid blocks an enzyme your body uses to make fat, and it also reduces your appetite. However, research about these effects is thin.

Spirulina Powder

According to Livestrong, spirulina is a single-cell form of blue-green algae that many consider a superfood because of its impressive nutrient profile. The compound is relatively high in protein and low in calories, which means it can help you stave off cravings for unhealthier foods.

Glucomannan (Konjac Mannan)

Healthline reports that glucomannan is a natural dietary fiber that’s often used as a weight loss supplement. The compound has an impressive ability to absorb water, meaning that it can take up space in your stomach and cause it to empty slower so that you feel fuller after a meal.

As this list shows, several ingredients in Skinny Coffee Club drinks show evidence for promoting weight loss. However, most of the research we found is still in the early stages and there’s little scientific consensus that they will work as described by Skinny Coffee Club.

In the same way, portion size makes a big difference in the effectiveness of these ingredients.

Skinny Coffee Club doesn’t release information about the proportions of each ingredient in their blends, so it’s difficult for us to comment on their effectiveness if you are drinking a cup of coffee a day. For that reason, we chose to look at customer reviews to see what actual users’ thoughts are.

A Look at Customer Reviews for Skinny Coffee Club

There are lots of reviews of Skinny Coffee Club online, so we chose to look closer at the comments on Amazon, the company Facebook page, and an article on Medium.

Amazon shoppers are less than impressed with this coffee brand, as the Original Weight Loss Blend averages just 2.5 stars out of five. Many people reported the bag size seemed small for the price of the coffee, and that the coffee has a slightly unpleasant taste that several of them covered up with soy milk or stevia.

The bigger issue we noticed was that most people didn’t think the coffee worked. A few reported that the coffee gave them laxative symptoms for the first few days after they added it to their routine, but barely any reviewers reported it helped them lose weight.

Frequent trips to the bathroom was a common theme for Skinny Coffee Club customers. In the words of one reviewer, “I drank it today and I am starting to think that the weight it claims you lose, is just water weight. For drinking only one cup of coffee, I have been peeing all day. And I drank the same amount of water today as I do every day.”

We didn’t see much difference with the Trustpilot reviews. The company page averages just two stars, and it includes dozens of comments about how the coffee doesn’t work for losing weight. A few people countered these claims by stating that eating something dry and fiber-rich like cereal with the coffee helped settle their stomachs.

A Medium review written by a user named “Abi” tells a different story. Though she reports that the drink tasted like soil when she drank it black, it seemingly helped her lose five pounds in under two weeks without any other lifestyle changes.

What Are Skinny Coffee Club Alternatives?

This chart shows just a small sampling of weight loss coffee and tea drinks that are available today, but it offers a good representation of the price points and kinds of ingredients that may contain.

For instance, all three coffee drinks we looked at contained garcinia cambogia, a fruit that shows some evidence of preventing your body from producing fat.

However, Drugs.com tells us that these results have been inconsistent in weight loss trials and that the doses used per day ranged from 1,500 to 4,667 mg/day for numerous weeks in a row.

We couldn’t find information from any of these companies about their garcinia cambogia concentration, so it’s not possible for us to comment on how effective these drinks may be from that standpoint.

Pricewise, we found that you’ll pay more on average for a serving of Skinny Coffee Club Coffee than the competition. This matches the comments we read from customers who thought their servings were way too small for the price they paid.

Finally, it’s valuable to comment on customer reviews. The Skinny Coffee Club has the lowest rankings of any product we looked at, and the Amazon customer reviews we looked at show that a lot of people think this coffee doesn’t work and even that it left them feeling sick and bloated.

While the other two coffees had a few similar comments, Teami Skinny didn’t seem to trigger the same level of side effects in users.

Our View: Should You Try Skinny Coffee Club?

If you’re looking at diet coffee brands to see if they are the solution to shedding extra pounds, the first step is to determine whether this strategy makes scientific sense.

As we’ve written before, it’s best to skip the diet pills and focus on improving your diet and exercise levels if you want to lose weight. Making simple changes like walking for thirty minutes a day can make an enormous difference in your overall health.

Can an appetite-suppressing coffee drink help you get the weight loss process started? It’s possible. There’s a lot of positive research coming out about the effectiveness of some of the ingredients in Skinny Coffee Club, and some users claim that the drink helped them shed pounds.

However, we think it’s a mistake to rely on one product like this without also taking steps to live a healthier lifestyle. Even the company agrees, as they state that the best way to achieve results is to pair the coffee with a healthy diet and exercise routine.
