    Bad financial system

I wrote on here before (I did in Spanish for Hispanic people because they are more vulnerable in the hands of this company). Just in case, I recommend never to pay to get it by mail because they will charge a late fee even if you send it certified mail. They don't care.

If you want to talk with a supervisor, he or she will never come to answer. They don't care.

Worst customer service and extra fees

I used Smile Generation to finance a dental procedure and am super unhappy. It was supposed to be interest-free for 12 months, and it was not the case. I ended up paying HUNDREDS of dollars in finance charges (due to their verbiage on the last page of their bills). I paid off the bill and STILL received a bill for finance charges. As explained by the customer service (who was HORRIBLE), they changed their terms of services agreement (no warning and no ability to disagree with it). May I advise if you do go with this horrid company, read EVERYTHING, every month on your bill. They will change things on you, and you will end up paying out the nose!

    Horrible service

I was overcharged by one of the dental office Smile Generation services a year ago, and I am still disputing the charge. I submitted the documents proving I was overcharged and for some reason, they sided with the dental office with no reason why. I would not recommend them to anyone, and when my balance is paid in full, I will never use it again.

    Terrible payment plan

I just found out that if you want to use a credit card to make a payment, they will charge you $9.00 EVERY TIME. Or you have to give up your checking account information. Absolutely terrible customer service on the phone! Do NOT use this service.

    Rip off with late fees

My husband chooses to use the card offered at his dentist, so we decided to take advantage of the "no interest for six months" offer.

I use bill pay through my bank and send a payment out on the 6th that is due on the 15th because according to my bank, it takes five days. So this company cashed the check on the 19th and charged $28 in late fees. As far as I'm concerned, they are scam people. I will make sure my dentist's office knows about this.

By the way, the money goes out of my account as soon as it's mailed by my bank. This sucks.

    Very bad ethics

I broke my partial in early April, and the dentist had a new one made. I like him and his staff is great. My complaint is not about them. My dental insurance didn't cover partial breakage, and the bill was $873.00. They introduced me to this company, and I signed up same. In mid-May I received a very nasty phone call from a woman that I equate with a Nazi, telling me that I had not paid for April and May, and demanded payment for two months. I had never received a bill from them for this.

She said that the bill was returned to them, address unknown. However, she repeated my address to me, which was correct. Obviously they made a mistake on their end. She would not listen to me that I couldn't send her my payment, as I had no bill. She said she would send me a bill yet she never did. I then received a phone call from a gentleman who said they were waiving the late fees but I still owed for two months. He asked when it was a good time for them to bill me, every month. I told him my Social Security check came the second Wednesday of each month. He told me the bill should arrive several days prior to this. Guess what? I still don't have a bill.

I have applied for a small loan, and should have it in about five days. I called the dentist's office today and made arrangements to pay them directly the full amount. They were very nice and graciously agreed to this. I fully intend to speak to a lawyer regarding this and I will attempt to bring suit against them. I will also report them to the proper people that oversee them. I'm 79 years old and don't appreciate this kind of hassle.

    Huge mouse trap

Advertised for $59, ended up paying much more. Sold me Dental insurance, but it isn’t really dental insurance. Deceiting, misleading, uninformed. This is what happened to me. I found this place online while searching for an affordable dentist. Their advertisement was “$59 Cleaning, Exam & Digital X-rays, regular value of at least $290.” WOW that’s a great deal right? I made my appointment in no time flat.

Once I arrived there, they took x-rays of only one side of my mouth. From there I was put into the exam chair where I was instructed to wait for the dentist to come in and evaluate/read my x-rays. The dentist explained that I would need a series of expensive dental procedures done of which he would be able to start treatment that day. The front desk gal then came in and explained to me my total cost would be $3,553. But they can sign me up for Dental insurance right then and it would lower my cost to only $2406. The one time cost for my Dental “Insurance” was only $111. Wow -- dental insurance for only $111, and my dentist office can sell it to me.

I was in severe pain that day and went ahead and signed up for my dental insurance and started my first treatment. I was not provided any information or discloser about this “Dental Insurance”. At the end of my visit I was given something called “Financial Arrangement” which listed the treatment plan and cost, along with “DENTAL PLAN ENROLL 1”. I was then asked to pay my office visit total for that day which came to $256. After I paid it they gave me an itemized receipt showing I paid a single x-ray, additional x-ray and photo intra oral cam for a total of $256. They also, gave me a copy of my 2 page “Financial Arrangement”. (3 pages in total.)

After getting home I realized I had no idea of the name of my new Dental Insurance company. About two week later I receive a membership ID card from “My Smile Dental Plans”. On the back of my ID card it says, “DISCOUNT DENTAL PLAN”, in smaller print it says, “THIS IS NOT AN INSURANCE PLAN’, and in even smaller print it says, “Administered by The CDI Group, Inc.” At that point I knew something was not right.

After doing some research I discovered that CDI Group, Inc. is “Coastal Dental Inc”, “Coast Dental Inc”, ”CDI Group”, “Coast Dental Plans”, they own the company “My Smile Dental Plans”. They are a Dental management organization that provide administrative and management services to dental offices and groups. The gal who sold me this “Dental Insurance” at the dentist office is an employee and/or independent contractor employed by Coast Dental Inc.

They have many partner companies including but not limited to, Pacific Dental services (this is who does the billing and collections), Smile Generation Financial (their credit card), Heartland Dental, Option One Dental Plan. There website is www.cdidentalplans.com.

I took this information to a Class Action Attorney along with hundreds of reviews and complaints about the questionable conduct and practice of these companies nation wide. He has agreed to file a class action case against them on behalf of the consumers. If you are a consumer that has been deceived, mislead or tricked into signing up for any of their services such as, Dental Insurance, Dental Plans, Dental Credit Cards or have been told you need unnecessary expensive dental work by any of these groups. If you would like to join me in a class action against these entities, or know someone that would, please email me at: stopdentalscams@gmail.com.

If you would like to find out if your dental office is contracted with these group you can go to www.mysmiledentalplan.com/summary.aspx and search the “Find A Participating Office”.

For those of you who would just like to report this group for wrong doing, they are Licensed in the State of California under the name CDI Dental, Inc. and Dentalplans.com. The state website is www.hmohelp.ca.gov.

    Big Scammers

I had some dental treatment last year and borrowed $3500 from this company. I paid all of my bills monthly without any delay. This year, I checked my account and found a big scam; they charged me $750 interest for one year. It means the interest rate is 22%. This was not the end of the story; I found out they also charged another interest monthly, $50 per month. I don't recommend this company to anyone. Avoid if you don't want to loose your money.

    Strong-arm up-selling techniques. Fraud, not patient-centered.

    • La Quinta, CA,

Went in for my six month cleaning; new to town; chose a dentist provided by DeltaCare USA/Costco. My insurance pays for cleaning; they refused to do a routine cleaning because they said I had "gum disease" even though I had no systems of swollen or red gums; I had no bleeding when brushing or flossing or using water pik (daily care); I had no pus that was found when they probed my gums; I had mostly "3"s, two 4's. When I went into the dentist, I told the receptionist; the hygienist; the financial gal and the dentist that I came in for a "routine 6 month cleaning" and I was fully away of one upper right molar that I have been treating for deep pockets for 5 years. Before moving from Hawaii, I had routine quarterly periodontal cleaning after laser gum surgery and periodontist said it didn't wiggle and didn't hurt; it was kept clean and not infected so we would "keep an eye on it" that tooth had deep pockets, a 6 and a 10. Still, no pain, no bleeding, no pus. I did not need a deep cleaning; was charged for a scaling but did not have a scaling - regular cleaning $890.00. Up-selling - not ethical.

    Worst experience, rip off artist.

    • San Antonio, TX,

This financial company is just there to make you fail. They make it very difficult to pay.

You can not schedule recurring payments and must log into their website which has changed in the 11 months I have been with them. I am sure they are legal in what they do, but they take it to the limits on a total dental charge of $3036 from March and May of 2014 I have now paid off a total of $1729 in interest and penalties. Wow, wish I could make that sort of money on my Money.

I would say, stay away. I have a fairly good credit score and pride myself on not ever being in credit card debt, but these guys almost changed that. Horrible experience. Never again.
