The brainchild of Harvard and MIT-trained researchers, Somnapure is claimed to be a “multi-functional” natural sleep aid that can help increase the alpha brain waves that promote relaxation and can help you fall asleep quickly, enter a deeper REM sleep, and remain in this state for longer periods of time. On top of this, Somnapure is claimed to also help you wake feeling refreshed and energized, while being non-habit forming.
In order to accomplish this, Somnapure is claimed to contain scientifically proven ingredients that can help you get the sleep you need, including:
- Lemon Balm
- Chamomile Flower
- Passion Flower
- Valerian Extract
- Hops Extract
According to the manufacturer, you should take one serving of Somnapure 45 minutes prior to bed for best results.
Not getting the sleep you need can impact every part of your life; your work, your cognition, your mood, and even your ability to lose weight. But if you’ve been suffering from insomnia, can Somnapure really provide the restful sleep you’ve been looking for? Consider the following:
Have Somnapure’s Ingredients Been Shown to Work?
Although Somnapure is claimed to be the brainchild of Harvard and MIT-trained researchers and to be “scientifically proven to help you get the sleep you need,” according to WebMD, melatonin is classified as “likely effective” for difficulty sleeping, while lemon Balm and valerian are listed as “possibly effective.” However there is insufficient evidence showing that l-theanine, chamomile, passionflower, or hops can provide any kind of sleep benefits.
In other words, of all Somnapure’s ingredients, only melatonin has been clinically shown to provide benefits related to sleep, which can be purchased for well under $10 at many of the same pharmacies that also sell Somnapure.
With this said, there’s no product label provided on the Somnapure website, so it’s unknown how much of each ingredient the supplement contains or if it’s enough to be effective.
Alternative Natural Sleep Aids
Next, keep in mind that when it comes to natural sleep aids, you have a variety of options from which to choose, including Alteril, Lunar Sleep, and Whole Body Herbal Sleep. Granted, not all alternatives are rated highly by consumers, but it’s important to note that you do have options.
What’s the Consumer Buzz About Somnapure?
Overall, it appears that Somnapure has a mixed online reputation with customers. On Amazon.com, the supplement has an average rating of 2.5 stars (as of 1/14/15), with some of the most common complaints citing failure to work, bad smell, high price, and enrollment in the autoship program (we’ll talk more about this in the following section). It should also be noted that more than one reviewer claimed that Somnapure helped them fall asleep more quickly, although they didn’t sleep any better or remain asleep any longer than normal.
However, Somnapure seems to have higher ratings through Drugstore.com, GNC.com, and Walgreens.com, although when present, the same complaints were noted.
From a company perspective, Peak Life, LLC based out of Boston, MA holds an A rating with the Better Business Bureau, despite more than 190 closed complaints, nearly all of which related to the company’s autoship program.
Somnapure Pricing & Refund Policy
If purchased directly through Peak Life, Somnapure is only available through a 14-day trial for $2.99 S&H, and includes the e-book Ready, Set, Sleep!
However, after your trial expires, you’ll be enrolled in the Somnapure VIP Membership program, which means you’ll continue receiving a fresh supply once every 30 days, and your credit card will be charged $29.99 plus $4.99 S&H each time.
Important note: As we’ve mentioned on numerous occasions, we typically recommend staying away from products sold only through free trials and autoship programs, as it’s our opinion that they’re more about getting ahold of your money than they are about providing any kind of convenience.
With this said, Somnapure comes with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges, even if you’ve used the whole bottle (note: This only applies to orders received through the Membership Program; direct purchases will have to be unopened in order to qualify). In either instance though, the product must be received at the warehouse within 30 days.
In order to request a refund or to cancel your autoship enrollment, you’ll need to contact customer service at 877-869-3304 for an RMA.
If you’d like to avoid the free trial, autoship enrollment, and S&H charges, Somnapure is also available through Amazon.com, GNC, CVS, Walgreens, Walmart, Drugstore.com, and many other third-party retailers.
Is Somnapure Really a “Rest & Relaxation Breakthrough?”
Chopping to the Point: Considering the fact that only the melatonin contained in Somnapure has sufficient clinical evidence showing its effectiveness for sleep, you might consider purchasing this from your local pharmacy and trying it out prior to committing to Somnapure. Despite this, many online customers seemed to have found at least some level of relief from insomnia using Somnapure, so you might too.
With this said, if you do decide to roll the dice, we might recommend purchasing Somnapure through a local brick-and-mortar retailer, which can help you save money on S&H fees, as well as automatic enrollment in the company’s autoship program.
I have bad anxiety, and it more often than not keeps me up entirely way too late at night. I tried Somnapure, and it usually works. My only negative thing to say is it has melatonin, and for some reason, melatonin and I don't get along. I recommend this stuff to all my family and friends who need a little sleep push.
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

I ordered a "free sample" of Somnapure and the site asked for payment information for shipping. I was then billed twice more for a "monthly subscription" but never ordered or received anything else from them. I have disputed the charges with my bank and have found out that there is a class action lawsuit against the manufacturers for these illegal practices. I would have liked to review the actual product but no product is worth being stolen from.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
