About Spicy Shelf

Spicy Shelf touts itself as a way to organize all your spices, using your existing cupboard space. They claim these U-shaped units are stackable, adjustable to fit any cabinet, and can organize up to 64 spices so you can see them at a glance and access easily.

Spicy Shelf is sold by Infomercials Inc, a direct marketing company based in Utah. There is no information, rating, or accreditation available about them on the BBB website at the time of this writing.

How Spicy Shelf Works

Spicy Shelf consists of 2 plastic adjustable shelving units that are in the shape of a horseshoe and 10 3/8” deep. They come with both large and small legs for stacking. To use Spicy Shelf, clear out the cupboard you intend to use and remove the regular shelves.

Next, take the Spicy Shelf and adjust the size according to the directions by adding back pieces to the unit. They claim it will fit any shelf area from 7.5” to 17”. If you are placing in a cupboard that already had shelves, you can use the existing shelf pins to set Spicy Shelf in place; otherwise, you can use the included (short or long) legs.

If you have a cupboard wider than 17” they suggest you use 2 Spicy Shelves in a “double-wide” configuration (or use to one side.) They claim Spicy Shelf can be used in 4 different configurations with one set of Spicy Shelves, with more choices available the more Spicy Shelf sets you buy.

They claim it installs in minutes, uses no special tools, and is made of durable plastic that is easy to clean. Once you have the Spicy Shelfs in place, they say the shelves run along the sides and back of the cupboard, leaving the middle area open; they state you can place your spices around it and be able to see every bottle.

They claim this is much better than hunting for spices in a jumbled cupboard. They say one set can hold up to 64 bottles of a standard spice size. (For taller bottles, they suggest you can put them in the center of the cupboard.) In addition, they say that Spicy Shelf can be used for medicines, vitamins, cosmetics, lotions, crafts, and more.

The website contains written and video testimonials from women (and a token man) who gush that Spicy Shelf has made their lives more wonderful by making the cupboards organized and spices easy to reach even for the “vertically challenged”.

Spicy Shelf Pricing, Shipping, and Returns

They say a Spicy Shelf Set costs $19.95 plus $7.95 S & H for a total of $27.90. But if you would like more than one, you can purchase the second set for $19.95 and shipping is free. If you want up to 4 more (6 total) the extra units are $10 each with shipping included. They ask to allow 4 to 6 weeks standard shipping for your order. Once you get your Spicy Shelf order, you have 60 days to try them. If you find they don’t fit, or any other reason, return them (you pay the postage) and they will refund your money less any S & H, if applicable.

Bottom Line: Is Spicy Shelf a Scam?

This product seems to work as advertised and has a good return policy. If you are looking for a way to get your spices (or lotions, makeup, vitamins, etc.) organized, this may be what you are looking for – and maybe they’ll add you to the testimonial page.

    I ordered the spicy shelf on 3/3/14 it is now 7/12/14 and still no shelf. The order screen says waiting for credit card approval. It said this for 10 days. it doesn't take that long. I finally took a present shelf used it for size and cut out the shape on luan paneling. Cut it out and used the present pegs to put in the cabinet. I now have the same thing and it cost a couple bucks. Works well too. On Monday the order gets canceled. They are not open today. Don't buy, just build. If I could give it a zero, oh I would.

    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Can't Provide the Product

    I placed my order early April, 2014. In May I received a card saying the order would be shipped June 28. On July 5 I received a card apologizing for "continued delay in shipping" and they did not "have an exact ship date available". They should not charge my credit card if they don't have the product available. I'm getting a refund, because they will be out of business if they can't get product.

    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Real or fraud.

    I placed order in April or March 2014. Got a back order notice. Later got a card for cancelation or wait. I opted to wait. When I ordered I was required to give my credit card information. It is now July and still no Spicy Shelf.

    However, my latest credit card statement shows purchase of airline tickets that I did not make. This is the only company that has online credit card authorization from me. I am quite concerned and am considering fraud investigation.

    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Worst Excuse for Customer Service Ever.

    Placed an order on March 9 and never received. This is the end of June and after numerous phone calls and excuses from their customer service, they informed me my order has been canceled because I didn't respond to some supposed card that was sent to me again, something else I never received and why would I? Everything was done online. I was told order was reinstated and I would have it within two weeks and again, nothing.

    Called again this morning and was told my order was canceled and when I told her I was told it was reinstated two weeks ago, she said, oh that's impossible. We can't do that. I am done. I am reporting this ridiculous excuse for a "company" to Better Business Bureau and my advice is do not order. Product may be fine, but these folks have no idea what they're doing and can guarantee they will end up out of business.

    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

      I NEVER received any cards. Hard to say if that is the company or the USPS, but considering everything that has happened. I did, however, receive an email from the inventor of the product with her explanation as to what had happened since she licensed her product to someone else to manufacture, and apparently she was able to get my two shelves sent to me. They have been installed and are a decent product. Hopefully, she has the manufacturer and customer service call center problems resolved but I certainly can't speak to that.

    Charges for returns

    I ordered two of these for $34.85. I had no problem with that, but I can't use them in my cabinets. My cabinets are too small, it's an old condo.

    I want to return them and I'm told that it will cost me $14.90 to return them.

    What's up with that? It didn't cost them anything to send it to me. I will never order anything from them again and will tell my friends also, bad marketing. Should have been told that before hand.

    It says I will be refunded less shipping and handling (I paid for that) and processing chargers. So it costs the same as shipping to return something, sorry not nice.

    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

      This product was the answer to my spice cabinet nightmares. Maybe the instructions could be better but it is pretty self-explanatory once you get started. My spices do NOT "slide off" the shelves because there is rubberized material on the shelves. For the first time ever, I am able to actually see all of my spices without having to remove half of them in the cupboard.

    Just read the reviews of those who continue to wait also. Did notice the 472 Likes on Facebook. If those reflect orders that have created the backorders it sounds like the business must be making money hand over fist. Our latest wait has now been extended into July (each day gets closer) and hopefully the multi-excuses will be over.

    It was nice to read the reviews of those who have received and are enjoying the use of the product. We just hope these are "real" people making these testimonials.

    Don't order from TV

    I ordered two and found when I received them that they are too wide for my cabinet. I have been trying to get someone to answer the customer service number provided. Started the evening I received and also next day when they were to open (EST) and got a suggestive talk for men and women. When I called later I couldn't get anyone to answer. The recording says - all their people are busy with other customers. I started at 7:00 AM CST and it's 1:00 CST now. I have called constantly and can't get a human being to give me an authorization number & return instructions! Don't know if I'll ever be able to return. Whatever you do don't order through T.V. company.

    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    Bad service

    I placed an order of 5 Spicy Shelves on March 10, 2014 and still haven't received my order. I have called the customer service department a few times and they keep pushing back the shipping date stating "we didn't expect the product to be so high in demand, so they are still on back order." I have been told four different shipping dates. Today is April 29th and they now projected for me to receive my order at "the end of May." They finally sent me an email April 25th offering a $10 discount for the delay in the order. They do not charge your card until the order ships. Hopefully the product will be worth this long wait. I originally ordered this for three birthday gifts and for myself.

    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

      FRUSTRATED,

      I actually ordered mine on the same exact date as you and still showing status as "in process". I received a postcard in the mail stating that is would ship approximately 5/13/14. Still has not shipped. I am ready to cancel my order.

      Same here, I ordered back in March and also received a card saying it would ship 5/13. I also notice that the Facebook page no longer allows comments. I can't believe the demand is THAT high, they must be having a manufacturing problem.

      Yep and you're going to continue to wait. I ordered around the same time, got the same answer and today may 27th rec'd another card without a date of when to expect my order to be shipped. As far as Facebook they may not have a place for comments but I just put one on one of their feel good postings in all caps. forget about calling, it's a constant hold with boring music and the same generic message, please continue to hold.

      I don't work for the company, but I know the finished product has only been in production a short time, and only available for regular shipping for maybe a month. This is a brand New product. With that in mind, it's not exactly accurate to say it's taken since March for an order to ship since it wasn't even in production yet in March, a fact made clear on Kickstarter. Those were not exactly orders, either, they were donations with a thank you gift attached.

    Company excuses

    I ordered two of these in February, 2014. It is now June 2014 and I still haven't seen these shelves. every time I call they say it on back order and essentially I will get them when they get them. Each time I call its "will be a couple more weeks", today its still a couple more weeks. I no longer believe what they have to say. If you want them in normal time just don't bother to order.

    Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

    I am so excited for my Spicy Shelf. I received it really fast!. When I pulled it out of the box I could see it was well built, sturdy and should last a long time. It was easy to put together. I even had to extend it. It is wonderful that they had pieces to make it fit perfectly. It is real strong. I put my large warehouse spices on the top and it works great. I have tried different spice shelves and they either still have hidden spices or waist space. I looked at different ones at the store and they seemed cheep and would brake easily. In my new house it has shelves on the door of the cupboards. It was horrible. I couldn't read the spices name or they were to high to reach. Many spices did not fit. I love my new spicy shelf! I was able to organize my spices alphabetical instead of by size. I am so looking forward using it for years.

    Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

    Got first set to support my friend, orderded more because they are awesome.

    I'm friends with the inventor, so I got some thinking "sure, those are cool, I will probably even use them". The day I got them I installed them in my spice cupboard and was amazed at how easy the installation was and how much more room I have, and can see everything. I attempted to use the lazy Susan's I had removed to organize my vitamin/ medicine cabinet and the results were just dismal. As soon as I could I ordered four more and can hardly wait until they arrive. Best investment I have made for my kitchen in years. Give it a try, you'll become a Spicy Chef, too, I dare you.
