  • Does not provide services they advertise

The main reason I got this was to monitor my kids' phones. This site advertises that they will show what apps are downloaded, what texts are sent and received, and what their internet activity is.

I set this service up for my two kids. Text messages were only current on one of their phones. The other was delayed. The bigger issue, though, is they claim to monitor internet activity and they do not. I was paying a set amount for all their services. The internet part originally wasn't a big deal, so I let it slide for a few months.

I then contacted customer service today to see why the internet monitoring wasn't working. They told me Google changed their privacy settings so their service can no longer monitor the internet. I asked if there was a reduced price since they no longer were offering all their services. I was told no. I also notice they are still advertising internet usage though. That's very deceptive. I canceled my account and hope I don't have the hassle of continued billing.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Greetings again Elizabeth, as we mentioned before, sorry you had issues. What we are doing is technically very difficult. For the newest Android OS 6.0 or higher, Google does not allow access to any internet history to any company. Operating system updates aren’t in our control and can affect our service offerings.

Monitoring internet works for iOS so it does get confusing. We are hoping Google will change their policy so internet activity can be monitored again.

      Best, the TeenSafe team

  • Poor

I was three days in the trial period and what they don't tell you is within the trial period you don't have access to all the information, so I proceeded with payment to get the full version. Within one day the phone started crashing, and the screen started flickering, and the user was locked out. TeenSafe had to be uninstalled, and the phone still has flickering issues. During installation, it requires you to take down firewalls making it easy to gain viruses. I do not recommend!

      Brandy,

Please call our customer support team to discuss your issues (800)245-8598 or email support@teensafe.com. Not sure whether you have an iOS or Android device so can’t help troubleshoot without that knowledge.

Our platform has tens of thousands of hours of Q&A testing with no issues of crashes and/or screen flickering.

Regarding the firewall issue, again would need to know if you’re on iOS or Android but we do not ask for you to or in any way disable firewalls leaving the phone vulnerable to viruses. We do ask for you to opt in that the child’s phone is being monitored but this does not dismantle or disable any of the phone’s security features.

  • Shame on you TeenSafe!

    To the TeenSafe team,

Please stop preying on hundreds of thousands of parents who are desperately searching for a tool to monitor their children's smartphone activity! Even though you have existed since 2011, this product is still in the beta phase and should not be sold as a working solution. Until you work out the bugs, it should be free at best! In fact, you should be paying test users to tell you what your paying customers are telling you. And you should actually listen.

The product is simply not capable of producing the advertised results! Great concept, if it actually worked without making users work overtime to work around its flaws only to find out the truth.

Please STOP telling customers that the Apple ID lockout is not a TeenSae issue, rather it's an Apple issue. My daughter has had the same Apple ID and password for 9+ years and has never once been locked out and forced to change passwords. Since signing up for this, this has now happened four times in two weeks! This is a huge red flag as she is now aware that she is being monitored. Not to mention the headache it causes me having to constantly change the password and try to explain to her that "it's an Apple thing."

This is NOT an Apple issue, rather it's a TeenSafe issue. Apple is doing their job by maintaining robust security to their customers. TeenSafe's workaround is to create another Apple ID (which is ridiculous). Please explain how that will prevent this from occurring over and over? Until TeenSafe can build a relationship with Apple and work together to resolve this, the product you are selling is only giving false hope to us parents!

We understand that you are frustrated but ask you to consider our position as well. Our team is working very long hours to resolve this industry-wide issue affecting successful monitoring of iPhones. We do not have this issue with Android.

Since early March we have been reporting several instances of Apple locking iCloud accounts. Apple locks iCloud accounts with no patterned or reason. They can lock instantly, or on one of several locking cycles which range from seconds to days. This is an industry-wide issue affecting everyone.

They followed the threats by the Turkish hackers to wipe millions of iCloud accounts and the CIA documents publication by WiliLeaks about critical iOS vulnerabilities. These security measures provoked repeat Apple iCloud account locks of the majority of iOS devices users.

The iOS update, released at the end of April, made it difficult to retrieve data via the iCloud system.

Again, we understand your frustration and our team is working very hard to resolve.

This is a scam website. I signed up in the evening to monitor my kid's activity, and the next day I was locked out of all my iCloud accounts. Obviously, Apple thinks this is a scam, and I kick myself for not researching more before I signed up. I called them and they said they are aware of the issue but nothing they can do. I asked for a refund, and they said no.

      Company Response from Gryffin Media

Greetings, our business is not a scam. We have millions of parents who’ve successfully interacted with TeenSafe. Since 2011 our products and services have helped hundreds of thousands of parents safeguard their children from harm. Nothing about our business, product, blog, charitable donations, 30+ employees, and more is engaged in or in any way part of a scam. Our relationship with Apple is not an issue.

Our customer support team did explain that the iCloud lock out is not due to TeenSafe, but Apple. There are articles about the Apple iCloud password lock out issue online as it has affected thousands of users, many more beyond just our customers. If it was TeenSafe we would have a fix, as we support and celebrate a 99 percent uptime over technology within our control. Unfortunately, what is going on with Apple’s iCloud is outside of our control.

In instances where parents use our products and services we offer fair value at cents on the day. In other special circumstances, we will offer a refund when users never used the service. We are a business that protects against others trying to scam us by using the service and then not paying for it. Our systems are able to track and verify against these instances.

Again, sorry you had these issues.

      Best,

      The TeenSafe team

It took me four attempts and four hours to get application loaded on my daughter's telephone. It worked for a month and then my account was suspended. TeenSafe said my Apple subscription was not paid but Apple said it was. I proved it was paid to customer service, but they did nothing. Payment was taken from my checking account and TeenSafe received it. TeenSafe applied the money to a monitor application that I do not have. I finally got tired of endless email threads and phone calls.

I cannot reccomend this company to anyone after the nightmare I've been through over $9.99.

      Company Response from Gryffin Media

      Chris,

We’re very sorry you had a difficult time. If you downloaded the TeenSafe Control App from Apple they manage your account and we have no access to your account. Apple owns the transaction and there is no accounting connection for us to suspend your account or to reapply funds. If you signed into www.teensafe.com you would have access to TeenSafe Control which you downloaded but not our other product, TeenSafe Monitor – that is a separate product. Very sorry for the product and customer support confusion. Hope that explains this more clearly. We are happy to continue the dialog to resolve. Our customer support team works very hard to assist with explaining the difference between the two services. The TeenSafe Team.

  • Not that useful - charged me, no refunds

We tried this for a week or so, and it just didn't work that well. It caused problems with one of our iPhones where it was hitting the Apple account multiple times and forced a password reset twice. Of course, TeenSafe claimed it wasn't their problem. I thought I had canceled it, but then I guess I didn't. TeenSafe doesn't seem to care, and there are no refunds. Also, they do not have any way to work with Snapchat, which is another reason we aren't using it.

      Eric,

I'm sorry you had issues. Our customer support team did explain that the iCloud lockout is not due to TeenSafe, but Apple. There are many comments about the iCloud issues online. Our team works very hard, but technology can be tricky.

And in certain circumstances, we will offer a refund. Just not when someone gets the data they want, cancels and ask for a refund. Again, sorry you had these issues, and if you feel the iCloud issue is not yet resolved. Please contact customer service again at 1-800-245-8598, or email support@teensafe.com.

  • Setup is hardly discreet. What a farce!

Prior to even using the service, I was establishing my account on their site, and then it became obvious that they had sent a verification code to my daughter's phone (she was at school at the time). Now she will know what I am doing, which renders the entire process futile. A clear message on their site warning to perform the setup only when you have private access to the target's phone would have avoided this.

This is what happens when you leave important procedures to tech heads! I wonder if I will not experience all of the issues other users had trying to cancel this.

    What a farce.

      Company Response from Gryffin Media

Sorry you encountered this issue. While we do mention you need the phone in hand there are always ways to communicate this more clearly. Per your feedback, we will look into how to improve this important step. TeenSafe was built by parents for parents so we are all ears when it comes to improving the customer experience. Per canceling the service, most issues are with refunds once data is accessed. Please let us know if you have any issues.

Don't waste your time getting tangled up with this useless software.

It promises to track website activity, but it doesn't. Their representative said it doesn't work for the current system software is on an Android. What the heck? When I told them to cancel my account, the representative said I could not get a refund because "I had seen data." RIGHT.

Guess what, TeenSafe? I'm going to broadcast this review as many times as I can.

Melinda, We responded to your other post as well so hoping you'll send us your email as we're trying to help. Sorry you are having issues. For the newest Android OS 6.0 or higher, Google does not allow access to any Internet History to any company. Operating system updates aren’t in our control and can affect our service offerings.

In our Terms of Use it states that any use of a full access paid account by a user, no full or partial refund will be issued. That being said we do not want frustrated customers. Please send us your email and we will resolve for you. Best, the TeenSafe team.

  • Does not do what it says and Customer Service said they do not refund

I downloaded this to see deleted text messages. Come to find out, the deleted text messages do not show the date or time, and most of the time no phone number either. When I asked questions about it, the customer service representative named Veronica said, "it's like a shredder, and a lot of times we just can't get that info." I asked for a refund, and she said they don't offer refunds.

Kelly, Our goal is to deliver the best monitoring tool parents can use to keep their teens and tweens safe. Unfortunately, Apple, Google and others do not make this easy. Sorry it wasn’t as useful for you as you were hoping.

In our Terms of Use it states that any use of a full access paid account by a user, no full or partial refund will be issued. That being said we do not want frustrated customers. Please send us your email and we will resolve for you. Best, the TeenSafe team.

  • No customer service

I installed the app, paid the $79.99 for a year's service, but it doesn't work. I called their customer service and was told to wait for 24 hours, and that it takes a while for all of the information to load via iCloud.

I called back after 24 hours and was told a technical support person would email me, and after another 24 hours, I received an email asking me to send them a screen shot of the error message. Really? I'm asking for a refund.

My daughter purchased a new phone in September, and I have been trying to get her new info rolled into the TeenSafe app. It's now January, and it's still pulling old data. I have spoken with at least four customer service reps, and they all had me jump through various hoops, and to no avail. They even told me it's an Apple issue, even though I could see her new info through iCloud, Apple, etc. It just wasn't working in their app! The last customer service rep I spoke with (Veronica) was very condescending to me.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
