Sure, The Rainbow Juice Cleanse appears to provide some very positive health benefits, and in a fairly short amount of time to boot. But when it comes down to it, is this detoxifying juice cleanse worth your money? And do you even need it in the first place?

If this is your first juice cleanse, the company recommends consuming only Rainbow Cleanse foods for 4 days prior to beginning, which will prime your digestive system to “transition away from cooked and/or processed foods.” On the other hand, if you’ve juiced before, you can jump right in to the cleanse.
The company claims this one-week program will provide benefits such as detoxification, immune boosting, anti-aging, and increased energy.
What Are Rainbow Vegetables? Do They Provide Health Benefits?
While there isn’t much information provided on the Rainbow Juice Cleanse website, MomSteam.com provides the following information about different colored vegetables:
Red foods get their color from lycopene, an antioxidant that may help prevent free radical damage. However, WebMD claims lycopene is only “possibly effective” for preventing bladder cancer and diabetes, and all other claims have insufficient clinical evidence to support them.
Orange and yellow vegetables contain alpha carotene and beta-carotene, which can also help prevent free radical damage, in addition to improving eyesight. Like lycopene, alpha-carotene and beta-carotene are carotenoids, which have shown some promise in inhibiting androgen receptors, which can lead to prostate cancer, although clinical trials have “yielded inconsistent results.”
The chlorophyll, calcium, and other minerals contained in green vegetables may help inhibit carcinogens. However, other than reducing pancreas swelling, neither of these substances has enough clinical evidence showing them to provide any health benefits.
Blue, indigo, and violet vegetables contain anthocyanins, which may improve heart health and reduce high blood pressure. Anthocyanins are colorless and odorless flavanoids, although there is insufficient clinical evidence showing them to have any health benefits.
Is Juice Detoxification Necessary?
As we’ve previously mentioned in many of our detox supplement reviews, “There is no evidence that those detox diets do any kind of detoxification in the body.” In other words, for otherwise healthy individuals, your liver and kidneys do a perfectly good job of ridding your body of any potential toxins, and drinking nothing but juice for 7 days won’t assist the process.
With this said, according to a 2014 CNN article, “New research shows eating up to seven servings of fruits and vegetables a day can have a significant impact on your lifespan. For those of us who don't have time to cut up or cook two servings with every meal, juicing is an easy way to consume them on the go.” However, this article concludes that “Juicing in moderation can help you consume essentials nutrients, but it's not a good way to detox or diet.”
Is The Rainbow Juice Cleanse Safe?
While The Rainbow Juice Cleanse may not actually detox your body any better than it could do on its own, can it help you lose weight?
For the most part, embarking on a juice “cleanse” means that individuals will often consume less calories than they burn (known as a calorie deficit), which is the primary method of losing weight. In other words, it’s not necessarily the vegetables you’re consuming that are causing you to lose weight; it’s the sudden change in calorie consumption.
With this said, most medical professionals recommend that 1-2 pounds per week represents healthy weight loss. As such, by causing you to lose up to 7 pounds in 7 days, The Rainbow Juice Cleanse may not represent healthy weight loss that can be sustained over the long term.
