Fantastic toothbrush, excellent customer service!

By Christine Clark, New York, NY, Verified Reviewer

I have been very pleased with my Quip toothbrush. My oral health has only gotten better since I have subscribed. I've had a couple questions over the past few months about my orders, and have always had my questions answered in a timely and respectful manner. I would recommend Quip to anyone.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Hi Christine! Delighted to hear it.

Don't be disheartened by the below reviews; you are far from alone. We have been shipping Quips for two years now and have hundreds of thousands of happy members like yourself :). Unfortunately, it is usually the few with bad experiences that google where to leave a negative review, and so we are delighted you googled to leave a positive one here (most usually do so on social media nowadays, which doesn't show up on a google search).

Thanks once again, and we are always happy to help at help@getquip.com.

Poor customer service

By Andres Casademont, Philadelphia, PA, Verified Reviewer

When you are dealing with a website service, and they do not provide a call in number nor provide tracking numbers, what do you do? It is annoying that I have to send an email and wait for their response to something I should be able to see when I sign in.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hi Andreas!

We provide a tracking number via email (with a clickable track button) the second your order ships, as well as provide basics tracking number on our website in your profile area.

We answer all emails within an average of 8 hours and are available seven days a week. We pride ourselves on our customer service and are sorry that not having a direct phone line (yet) as a growing startup, led you to feel you were receiving poor customer service.

We hope you enjoy your brush :).

Broken in three months

By Celesy, Houston, TX, Verified Reviewer

Waste of money. It broke after three months, but I already prepaid for the 12 months of brush heads.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hi Celesy!

Did you email help@getquip.com when you had an issue with your brush? If your brush broke at three months, it sounds like you may have had an issue when replacing (as the brush head should be replaced at three months with the refill you receive).

Either way, your brush is covered for life! So please do email us so we can help you out :).

After using for over a year, I developed three cavities after having none for more than eight years

By Britt, Arizona, Verified Reviewer

For reference, I brush and floss my teeth every day religiously. I take oral health seriously.

After going to the dentist a few times, she started noticing an extreme amount of plaque build-up in my gums, even though I floss every single day. She was surprised to hear me say I floss so regularly because almost all my gums were bleeding as well. For the first time in over eight years, I will need three fillings, costing almost $300 after insurance, because this toothbrush isn't doing a good job.

I wouldn't recommend it at all!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Apr 1, 2017

Hi Britt!

We are sorry to hear your brushing routine deteriorated over the past year, leading to these issues :(.

We hope that your hygienist will have discussed with you that a toothbrush cannot cause cavities, or in itself, fight cavities alone. The effectiveness of any toothbrush (or flossing device, which we do not currently sell) comes down to how it is used.

We designed Quip to make using a toothbrush the right way easier! But it sounds like it had the opposite effect for you :(.

It is hard to give advice without knowing if you came from a manual toothbrush, but here would be what a hygienist would usually discuss (but please consult with your own first).

1) Quip is identical in size, shape, bristle design and more to all manual toothbrushes, just with the added vibrating bristles and 2-minute timer. If you came from a manual toothbrush, it would not be possible for Quip itself to be worse at cleaning. With that said, professionals do sometimes see on rare occasions that people start to brush differently/worse when switching to an electric because they believe it "does the work for them" and change their technique. An electric toothbrush and a manual toothbrush should be used in almost the same exact way. Going tooth to tooth, gentle wiggling the bristles focusing around the gum line area. Sometimes people switch to electric and drastically alter their technique when they should not, so we want to ensure that this is not the case for the next toothbrush you choose.

2) If switching from another electric then the above is also often the case. A change in routine or technique is going to affect your oral health drastically (but the design or power of a toothbrush will not, especially with one like Quip, which is made in the same way as others). So we would certainly recommend discussing with your dental professionals if you feel you changed anything about your routine that might have led to this, as we would hate for this to continue to happen in the future!

While we designed Quip to make better brushing easier, all mouths are different and personal preference is one of the most important aspects when choosing a toothbrush (check out consumer reports on toothbrushes). So we are sorry to hear that Quip wasn't for you and hope to see your oral health improve as you move forward!

Thanks for giving Quip a try :).

Do not buy the product

By Carolina Castaneda, Amsterdam, Netherlads, Verified Reviewer

I purchased the toothbrush with three refills to last a year for US $70, including shipment to the Netherlands, which is already a high amount. When the first delivery arrived in Amsterdam, I had to pay the shipping company EUR 22 on top of the product.

I submitted a complaint, and customer service canceled the other three refills with a reimbursement of US $10. Therefore, I ended up paying over US $82 for a toothbrush I did not even like.

I do not recommend the product for the product itself, and because of the experience I had with it.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Hi Carolina!

Most importantly, we are sorry you did not have the ideal Quip experience. We know it can always be challenging when ordering an international product.

Qe are very open with international customers. We show the shipping charge clearly on the shipping page, we also clearly state on our website (and link to from the same area of the shipping page) that you may incur customs import charges that we cannot control, depending on your local area.

We also offer full refunds within 30 days, so you should have no need to be with a toothbrush that you have had a poor experience with.

We totally understand your frustrations with these common issues that are a sad part of ordering any product internationally due to the challenges of international shipping. We provide international shipping for those passionate about trying Quip in any country, but we are very clear and forewarning about the challenges and potential costs.

We are sorry for your experience and are always here to help on help@getquip.com.

Dentist told me my dental health deteriorated

By Dray, California, Verified Reviewer

I got a Quip Toothbrush one year ago and have since been to the dentist three times. I already had great oral health, but I wanted a convenient toothbrush that I didn't have to remember to buy. Quip seemed like a simple Netflix-style solution to my first world problems.

I went to the dentist two weeks ago and have a cavity for the first time in ten years. I also have worse gum health than I did. My dentist (who knows me well) asked me what changed. I explained that I switched toothbrushes to Quip. She told me to go back to Sonicare immediately.

Now that I've really "A and B" tested them, I can actually feel my teeth and gums feel better after I use the Sonicare.

I'm not sure how the marketing got me, but the $40 I saved on the toothbrush (as compared to Sonicare I had), is not worth the $320 filling I had to get and my poorer dental health.

Don't buy it.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Apr 1, 2017

Hi Dray!

We do not know every detail of your oral health; only your dentist knows that, so we would always recommend you go with their advice first and foremost.

With that said, we hope that they were open with the fact that a toothbrush cannot cause cavities or, in itself, deteriorate your oral health. If they did not discuss this, we would recommend reading through the ADA toothbrush guide and the consumer reports toothbrush guide.

In short, a manual toothbrush (which Quip is identical in shape and size and design to, just with the addition of vibrations and timer making it electric) is capable of a perfect clean if used correctly, just like even the most expensive electrics on the market.

So switching from an "ultra" level of vibration like yours, to a "sensitive" one like Quip will not cause a deterioration in your oral health (despite what the ads say, toothbrushes are not magic devices).

With that said, switching toothbrushes of any kind CAN alter brushing habits and brushing routine. We actually designed Quip specifically to make better brushing and a better brushing routine more simple, and focus on the things that really do improve your oral health (technique, routine, upkeep) and try and ensure people not to believe electric toothbrushes do all the work for you.

But it seems like, for whatever reason, Quip made you brush worse. And we are so sorry to hear it! All mouths are different and so are personal preference. As your dentist should tell you, personal preference is the most important thing when choosing a brush, so it sounds like your old brush is the one for you!

We hope you get back to a better brushing routine and are sorry Quip was not for you!

Quip delivery

By Candice, Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

I can't tell you about the product because I haven't been able to receive it.

They use USPS mail and if the tracking number says it has been delivered (which it hasn't), they tell you to call the Post Office. The Post Office has an 800 number which they don't answer. When you enter the tracking number it says that it's delivered.

The customer service representative at Quip would only say, "go talk to your neighbors, maybe they have it." They will not give me a refund until I file a claim with the Post Office. The Post Office won't accept a claim until your package has been lost for 15-20 days.

Bottom line, they need to step up and use an actual delivery service.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Apr 1, 2017

Hi, Candice.

We are so sorry to hear about your poor experience with USPS, and I would encourage you to leave this review on their review page also!

The fact is, they recorded this package as "delivered." Sadly, a number of fraudulent claims online companies get that packages are not delivered when they are. Therefore, we are not able to send out a reshipment (or full refund) until we see a case started with USPS. We do this because that is something you can do instantly. The backup option is not to open a case and, as you say, wait 15-20 days for USPS to admit it as lost, but we do not encourage that.

The reason we suggest checking with neighbors is that we have been shipping Quip for two years now, and nine times out of ten a "delivered" package that cannot be found is in fact, at a neighbors house.

We understand the frustration experienced here, and we are deeply sorry you had to go through that. We have tried many service providers over the last few years and can assure you that USPS perform just as well (or in your case, just as bad!) as the others we tried. But we appreciate your feedback.

Not much more than a toothbrush.

By Eric, WI, Verified Reviewer

The Quip Toothbrush is made well, lasts long on a single battery, and gives a decent brushing. That said, it really doesn't do any more than a manual toothbrush. It has surprising power for such a small package, but you can't use the vibration to brush your teeth alone like you can with other brands such as Braun or Sonicare. You still have to brush like you would with any other manual brush, so I don't really see where the advantage is. I discontinued within a few months.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Apr 1, 2017

Hi, Eric!

First of all, thanks for giving Quip a try. Unfortunately, your comments touch on a "worrying and damaging" misconception, caused by big brand advertising that an electric toothbrush "does the work for you," or that an electric toothbrush should be used differently than a manual one.

This misconception is the very reason we started Quip! The truth is, all toothbrushes (manual, rotating, vibrating) are capable of the same quality cleaning if it used correctly, and all of them should be used in the same way!

To brush properly, no matter which type, you should be move from tooth to tooth, gently, slowing and wiggling the bristles around the gum area for each tooth, two minutes twice a day. Rotating, and vibrating toothbrushes do not change this habit, or magically remove the need to do this. Instead, it just provides extra help to get the bristles where they need to go (inside the gum, tooth gap). Most of all, it gives a fresher feeling that is more rewarding, and people are likely to brush more often and take more care of their teeth.

So the level of movement or vibration does not determine your oral health, the way you use them does.

We aren't able to observe how you brush, but we would recommend you taking your Sonicare (or Quip) to your next dental visit to show them how you do. They will give you the best advice, making sure you are doing it right. You certainly should not just be moving the brush head to each tooth and leaving it there.

The reason other brands make it seem like you “can just leave it there” is because it is easier and faster for them to sell you the highest models. The big brands are making more money by advertising and misinforming consumers that they don't have to put extra effort into brushing because their brushes are more powerful. It is such a damaging line of advertising, and we are fighting hard against it, but we also used to believe it!

We designed Quip to provide proper brushing tips, tools that guide and enhance brushing and deliver services that are crucial in other aspects like proper upkeep of bristles and visiting the dentist on time. In short, we make a better oral care routine more simple, affordable and enjoyable.

As you will read on ADA and Consumer Reports website, the best brush has nothing to do with the amount of power it has, but personal preference. Whichever brush inspires and guides you to brush the right way is the right one for you. We hope you give Quip another try one day, but if not, we just hope you are brushing the right way with whichever brush you prefer.

We hope this helps!

Ineffective and cheaply made

By Jeff Meno, Midland, MI, Verified Reviewer

I had high hopes of getting fresh heads every 3 months and enjoying an Oral B type experience which I was used to.

The brush vibrates but does little else; the cleaning is still done manually with no real sonic benefits. The plastic version (which was still pricey comparatively) is cheaply made and stopped working after 3 months.

The marketing is great, the execution not so much.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Apr 1, 2017

Hi, Jeff!

Please excuse us using parts of a standard response here. It is truly a common and damaging misconception that we often need to address, to ensure that people do not have the wrong idea about what makes a great toothbrush.

Unfortunately, your comments touch a worrying and damaging misconception, caused by big brand advertising, that an electric toothbrush "does the work for you." Also, that an electric toothbrush should be used differently from a manual one, and that the mode or power they are set at is what affects its quality or effectiveness.

This misconception is the very reason we started Quip! The truth is, all toothbrushes (manual, rotating, vibrating) are capable of the same quality clean if used correctly, and all should be used in the same way!

To brush properly, all types of toothbrushes should be moved tooth to tooth, gently, and slowing wiggling the bristles around the gum area of each tooth, for 2 minutes twice a day. Rotating, and vibrating toothbrushes do not change this habit, or magically remove the need to do this. They just give extra help by allowing the bristles to reach tough places like inside the gum and between gaps. Most of all, they give a fresher feeling that is more rewarding and makes people use electrical toothbrushes more often.

So the level of movement, or vibration does not determine your oral health, the way you use them does.

The reason other brands like to place emphasis that "power=effectiveness" is because it is easier and faster for them to sell you their highest models if consumers think they have to do no work. The more powerful, the more expensive they are which means its more money in their pockets. This is such a damaging line of advertising, and we are fighting hard against it.

We designed Quip to provide proper brushing tips, tools that guide and enhance this brushing, and services that automate crucial other aspects like proper upkeep of bristles and visiting the dentist on time. In short, we make a better oral care routine more simple, affordable and enjoyable.

As you will read on ADA and Consumer Reports website, the best brush has nothing to do with the amount of power it has, but personal preference. Whichever brush inspires, and guides you to brush the right way is the right one for you. We hope you give Quip another try one day, but if not, we just hope you are brushing the right way with whichever brush you prefer.

To address your other comment, we can assure you Quip (which is made by the same manufacturers as some of the big brand brushes) is far from being cheaply made. Of course, the slim, lightweight nature may feel different than your usual heavier larger brush, but all Quips (and especially the metal handle variety) are made by the best in the business, using the best in design and engineering. We do understand this also comes down to personal preference.

We hope this helps explain a little more about our approach, and oral care products in general!

About the same as a $5 battery powered toothbrush

By MB, Salt Lake City, UT, Verified Reviewer

At a premium price, you'd expect to get something "more". Higher quality. At the very least, better. I found Quip to be none of these. It was about on par with the cheap battery powered toothbrushes that you'd find at the supermarket.

There is nothing extraordinary about this product that justifies a premium price. Nothing.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Apr 1, 2017

Hi MB,

We are sorry to hear you found Quip to be anything but high quality. However, Quip is not made in the same facilities, using the same parts, processes, and engineering as some of the top brushes on the market, but the design is custom from the ground up. Also, the materials used, in many cases, are far more premium than anything on the market.

We understand that to some, size and weight matters, and so the perception of something smaller and more lightweight being cheaper can stand. Personal preference is important in oral care. We are sorry to hear that Quip was not to your personal preferences.

With that being said, one of the main reasons people love Quip is due to its high quality, premium design and attention to detail. Particularly, the metal handle version, which adds a level of quality above any toothbrush out there.

But again, personal preference is just that, and we are sorry to hear Quip was not to your liking!

Nice looking but not effective,

By NJ, New York, Verified Reviewer

I was really happy with my toothbrush for the first three months after which it stopped working as well as it had been. I emailed the company to inform them of my issues and they were apologetic but unhelpful. It's a great website and idea but sadly the product still needs a lot of work.

I waited foe over two months to receive my tooth brush (the company emailed me to apologize for the delay, apparently they were in the process of improving the heads) that then only lasted three months. Total waste of time and money.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Company Response from Quip NYC Inc.

Apr 1, 2017

Hi NJ,

It sounds like you had an issue that was caused by the removal or changing of the brush head?

Quip covers your brush for life, and we ship replacements heads or brushes for the few that need them instantly.

At no point in 2016 should you have needed to wait for two months (let alone two days) for a brush head! It sounds like there was more to your case. Could you let us know your order number, or some other identifying factor so we can better answer to your experience?

Thanks so much!
