What is Turmaquik?

Billed as the number one turmeric Meriva supplement, Turmaquik claims to be able to support joint flexibility, inflammation response, and reduced stiffness using its specialized blend of turmeric and other natural ingredients.

The company behind the product claims that it uses a more traditional approach to combining the ingredients in the formula, even going so far as to say it’s 29 times more absorptive than regular curcumin (an ingredient in turmeric) supplements.

We’ll take a closer look at the ingredients used within the product in a moment, but first, let’s briefly discuss what joint pain is, what causes it, and what else can be done to ease the pain if it’s what you’re currently experiencing.

Understanding Joint Pain

Joints are a crucial part of our bone structure; without them, we wouldn’t even be able to move. These connection points between bones provide structural support and aid movement by allowing the body to bend as needed.

The Mayo Clinic reports that joint pain is most commonly brought on by inflammation within the joints themselves, which in turn can limit mobility and even cause bone damage if not dealt with. This sort of pain is increasingly common as we age, and WebMD illustrates that causes of joint pain include osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, bursitis, gout, strains, sprains, and other injuries.

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) states that 29.3 percent of individuals ages 45–64 reported living with doctor-diagnosed arthritis. That figure becomes 49.6 percent for those age 65 and older.

So, what can be done about this kind of pain if it is so widespread? Conventional treatment options include over-the-counter solutions such as aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen sodium. For more serious or persistent pain, injections, topical therapies and physical therapy may be used.

Having said this, how do supplements like Turmaquik factor in? In order to determine if you really can expect to see results using the product, we’ll take a closer look at the ingredients used in its formula in the section below.

Turmaquik Ingredients

According to the product’s main website, Turmaquik uses the following six ingredients:

  • Meriva© curcumin turmeric extract – 550 mg
  • BioPerine© black pepper extract – 6 mg
  • Ginger rhizome extract – 20 mg
  • Boswellia resin – 20 mg
  • Chamomile flower heads – 4.2 mg
  • Ground calcium – 126 mg

So, just what exactly do authoritative sources such as WebMD, the Mayo Clinic, and Examine.com have to say about these ingredients and their effectiveness? As it turns out, many of them show promise for joint health, including:

  • Turmeric extract, which has shown potential to relieve pain and other symptoms of osteoarthritis when taken by mouth twice daily in doses of 500 mg.
  • Ginger, which has potential for modest pain relief from osteoarthritis, though the clinical studies listed on WebMD’s page entry seemed to use much larger doses than the one found in Turmaquik.
  • Indian frankincense (boswellia), which has also been shown to reduce osteoarthritis pain while increasing mobility, albeit at higher doses than what’s included with Turmaquik.
  • Chamomile, which may show promise for relieving osteoarthritis of the knee, though no dosage amounts were given, and this study seems to be evaluating the topical application of chamomile oil, not supplemental chamomile.

Outside of these ingredients, you’re left with BioPerine and calcium. The latter has long been known to support bone health, which might explain its inclusion in the formula. As for BioPerine, this ingredient has been known to increase the bioavailability of curcumin according to multiple different clinical studies, such as this one carried out in 1998. What does this mean for you?

Will Turmaquik’s Unique Preparation Make It More Effective?

One of Turmaquik’s primary claims is that its unique formulation can be 29 times more absorptive than regular curcumin products. They state that this is because of the specific coated turmeric used in the formula, called Meriva. This proprietary substance has been shown to increase bioavailability, helping to absorb the turmeric itself more easily.

They also claim that the BioPerine in the formula assists the process as well, and as we reported above, this substance does seem to increase bioavailability of curcumin–one of the main ingredients in turmeric–specifically in clinical trials.

Potential Turmaquik Side Effects

Based on the ingredients included in Turmaquik’s formula, the following possible side effects were reported by WebMD, Examine.com, and Drugs.com:

  • Turmeric: None of the three sources above list that significant side effects are common, but WebMD states that certain individuals may experience stomach upset, nausea, dizziness, or diarrhea, though no dosage information was reported at which these become more likely.
  • Ginger: heartburn, diarrhea, and general stomach discomfort have been reported at dosages of 1-2 g, much higher than the 20 mg used in Turmaquik’s formula.
  • Calcium: Outside of belching or gas, no significant side effects have been reported under doses of 1000 mg (compared to the 126 mg used here).

Other than these three ingredients, no significant side effects were reported by the three sources listed above. As always, however, there is always the potential for unforeseen side effects to crop up when taking any dietary product. It’s never a bad idea to speak with your doctor before taking a supplement for the first time.

Turmaquik Pricing & Return Policy

As of this writing, Turmaquik was available exclusively through Amazon.com. When we checked during our research, the supplement was the official “Amazon’s Choice” pick, which means it is highly rated and well-priced, according to the electronic retail giant. It is currently being sold in two quantities:

  • 60 count – $24.99
  • 180 count – $49.95

Both options include free shipping, as well as a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. Returns can be initiated in your Amazon.com customer dashboard.

Turmaquik vs Other Turmeric Supplements

Simply typing some variation of the phrase “turmeric joint pain supplement” on Amazon or Google Shopping brings up hundreds of different results, most of which include turmeric as the main ingredient–no surprises there. However, we were also able to find a few supplements that included BioPerine, as well as ginger extract. That said, none of the products we encountered contained the same exact ingredients–or the same concentration amounts.

Interestingly, most of these were priced a bit lower than Turmaquik, with the average sitting around $20 per bottle of 60 pills. Still, despite the extra cost, with over 250 reviews on Amazon as of this writing (74 percent of which are 5-stars), it’s clear the supplement has some fans.

Reviewers commonly mentioned how pleasantly surprised they were with the product’s effectiveness at relieving their joint pain and discomfort, and we didn’t read any accounts of negative side effects being prevalent.

So, outside of pricing and customer reviews, what other considerations should you make when searching for the right turmeric supplement?

  • Watch out for autoship programs and free trials online. Thankfully, many products (like Turmaquik) don’t employ these questionable pricing structures, but if you come across an otherwise attractive looking product that does, ask yourself; is it worth the potentially costly monthly fees to choose one of these products, knowing so many alternatives exist?

  • Evaluate the (additional) ingredients carefully. If the product contains more than just turmeric like in the case of Turmaquik, it’s important to read what authoritative sources like WebMD, Examine.com and Drugs.com have to say about each of the ingredients, as well as their potential side effects.

  • Always make a point to know the return policy before buying. In today’s online-dominated age, knowing the specifics about a product’s return policy before you pull the trigger on it is a necessity. Thankfully, purchasing a supplement on a large marketplace like Amazon.com means that you’ll have access to a robust return policy across the board, but if the product you are interested in isn’t available on one of these sites, pay careful attention to what the terms and conditions state before entering in any credit card information.

The Bottom Line: Our Thoughts on Turmaquik

Will Turmaquik truly be able to support joint flexibility, inflammation response, and reduced stiffness?

Based on what we’ve learned from authoritative sources such as WebMD, Examine.com, the Mayo Clinic, and Drugs.com, we found that turmeric, ginger, Indian frankincense and chamomile all feature at least some clinical evidence supporting their ability to help those dealing with joint pain, although most of them have been tested for pain relating specifically to osteoarthritis.

Additionally, we learned that BioPerine does indeed have the ability to improve the bioavailability of turmeric, as claimed by the makers of Turmaquik. On the other hand, we also discovered that while the turmeric included in the product’s formula is found in doses consistent with the clinical trials reported by WebMD, many of the amounts of the other ingredients are quite lower than those referenced by the authority site as being effective.

This doesn’t necessarily mean they won’t be useful outright, of course, and with so many positive customer reviews on Amazon, it’s clear that Turmaquik is definitely having a positive impact on many individual’s joint pain.

As consumers ourselves, the fact that the product was priced a bit higher relative to the competition does give us pause, but none of these other solutions included the same blend of ingredients found in Turmaquik. You could argue that this additional price might be worth it in the end, if your personal results are consistent with what others have experienced.

Either way, it’s never a bad idea to consult with your local healthcare professional beforehand if you’re looking for specific, professional medical advice; no one is more qualified to give it to you. If you’d like to jump in and give Turmaquik a shot, however, you’ll be able to utilize Amazon’s 30-day return policy should you decide that it isn’t the right solution for you.
