What Is The VaRoom?
The VaBroom is a two-in-one broom with a built-in vacuum function. The creators of the device claim that it will quickly and easily clean any floor due to its cordless, compact and lightweight design, referring to it as the latest innovation in cleaning supplies.
The vacuum itself features a 14,000 RPM motor that sucks up debris from the small nozzle on the side of the broom. After you’ve swept the mess into a pile, you’ll only need to tilt the VaBroom to activate it, allowing you to thoroughly clean areas like stairs, baseboards, and even sliding glass door tracks.
When the trash compartment in the base of the broom is filled, you only need to press a button on the side of the handle to release the lid, allowing you to dump it directly into the trash with ease.
The product is powered by four AA batteries, though none are included with the order itself. We tried reaching out to customer service to clarify how long you might be able to expect it to last before needing to replace these batteries, but they did not have any information on hand when we spoke to multiple agents during our research.
The makers of the VaBroom say that it can handle any mess, claiming that it’s enough to completely eliminate the need for a dustpan. Based on what we know about the product without testing it for ourselves, can you expect it to deliver on this promise?
Will VaBroom Truly Allow You to Say Goodbye to Your Dust Pan?
Based purely on what we’re shown of the VaBroom, it looks as though the product features a compelling and novel design that could potentially save you some time and effort in your weekly cleaning routine, depending upon your specific needs.
On the other hand, judging by the size of the vacuum nozzle itself, we can think of a few types of debris that may not fit, such as larger pieces of food, dirt, globs of pet hair, and more. As a result, we could also see the limited size of the trash compartment being a consideration, especially if you live in a large home, or with a particularly furry canine friend.
On the more optimistic side, there’s also the physical act of bending over with a dustpan to think about. Constantly bending down is difficult for some individuals, so we can certainly see how the VaBroom might be helpful in this context, especially.
VaBroom Pricing & Return Policy
As of this writing, the VaBroom was available exclusively from the manufacturer online. The product is sold as a mandatory “buy one, get one” offer, with the initial unit costing you $39.99 plus $9.99 P&H. On the second device, you’ll just pay another $9.99 P&H fee, bringing your grand total to $59.97.
As for the return policy, the website terms state that you’ll have 30 days to return the product for a refund, less all P&H fees ($20 of the total amount). You’ll also be required to pay the postage to get the product back to the manufacturer.
VaBroom vs. Alternative Combination Cleaning Devices
If you’ve made it this far, you might be wondering whether or not there are any worthy competitors to the VaBroom that you should look into before committing to a potential purchase.
A quick search on Google or Amazon reveals that there are hundreds of different broom designs available online; that said, we did not encounter any that mimic the VaBroom’s specific blend of sweeping action and tilt-driven powered suction. The vast majority of the products we found were classified as “stick-vacs,” or vacuums made to resemble the form factor and weight of a typical broom.
These products seemed to be extremely popular on Amazon in particular, with dozens of different models to choose from on the online mega-marketplace. Pricing seemed to vary widely, but the top seller as of our research, the Dirt Devil Simpli-Stik, ran for $18.99.
Similarly, we also found a handful of products that combined the stick-vac approach with a mop functionality, allowing you to handle yet another aspect of your cleaning routine in one convenient device.
Still having a tough time deciding which product would be ideal for you? Ask yourself the following questions while looking around:
- What kind of messes do you clean up on a weekly (or even daily) basis? For instance, if you are constantly cleaning small, spread out messes, a product like the VaBroom might be just what you need to ditch the dust pan and get more done at once. On the other hand, if you have a large, hairy dog, or children that are prone to larger messes, it may make more sense to go with something with a wider suction area (and larger trash compartment) in the end.
- Continuing this thought, ask yourself if a mopping functionality would be useful for you. Because mop/vac combination products are so popular online, it makes sense to determine if this would be a better alternative for what you are looking to clean. If you don’t have a need for mopping functions, however, a product like the VaBroom may be preferred.
- Be sure to thoroughly read and understand the product’s return policy before making the purchase. This is especially true when buying online, as you won’t be able to actually try it out before it arrives at your doorstep. If you find that it doesn’t fit your needs in the long run, you’ll want to be able to return it for a refund.
The Bottom Line On The VaBroom
Sweeping everything we’ve learned about the VaBroom together, will it truly be the one device that makes you ditch the dustpan? From our perspective, the answer to that question depends highly upon your individual needs.
On the plus side, the product really does seem like an innovative way to handle smaller, daily messes in and around the house. Being able to quickly sweep up (and vacuum away) smaller debris at any time definitely sounds convenient, and we can see this becoming an indispensable tool for some households.
On the other hand, a few questions remain about the device that we feel are important to consider. For one, though we tried reaching out to support, we weren’t able to get a direct answer on how long you could expect the four AA batteries to last in the device before needing to be replaced.
In addition, the combination of a smaller suction nozzle and limited space in the trash compartment lead us to feel that the VaBroom may not be optimized to handle the larger, messier clean-ups that can sometimes occur.
All the same, if you’d like to give the product a shot based on the sheer novelty of its design, we’d recommend simply keeping the 30-day return policy in mind going into your purchase. Just be prepared to be out $20 and some change for shipping should you decide that it isn’t right for you in the end.
