About Wipe New
Manufactured in the USA, Wipe New products are claimed to use a “Nano-polymer formula” to help renew, restore, and protect a variety of surfaces from harmful oxidation, and to provide a shine that lasts. Because of this, Wipe New claims that they can help save you time and money.
In order to accomplish this, Wipe New products are available in 5 different formulations: Trim kit, home and outdoor, headlight restore, tires, wheels (brake and dust defender), which we’ll talk more about next.

Wipe New Marine Professional Formula
A newly adapted version of Wipe New’s nano-polymer formula intended to specifically address fiberglass and gel coated surfaces in the marine environment, and to make them look brand new after just one application, without waxing, polishing, or buffing. Available only as a 32oz bottle.
Wipe New Marine Upholstery
Similar to the standard Marine formula, but intended to restore and renew upholstery, navigational devices, and console dashes from fading, cracking, and weathering.
Wipe New Marine Metals
Formulated to renew and restore metal fixtures, rim pieces, ski and wakeboard towers, and railings from corrosion, salt water, and weathering.
What is Oxidation?
Throughout the Wipe New website, their various products are claimed to address oxidation. But what exactly is this?
According to WiseGeek, “Oxidation can also be a problem for car owners, since the outermost layers of paint are constantly exposed to air and water. If the car's outer finish is not protected by a wax coating or polyurethane, the oxygen molecules in the air will eventually start interacting with the paint. As the oxygen burns up the free radicals contained in the paint, the finish becomes duller and duller.”
As such, Wipe New is claimed to interact chemically with the surface it’s applied to, which restores its finish and prevents further oxidation from occurring, although only for a limited period of time.
What Ingredients Does Wipe New Contain? Are They Safe?
In several areas on the Wipe New website, the manufacturer claims the product is made using a “nano-polymer formula,” which is a very vague term, but doesn’t provide any additional information about the formulation.
However, we located a Wipe New Material Safety Data Sheet revealing that the product is made using benzene, 1-chloro-4-(trifluoromethyl), and tert-Butyl acetate. Keep in mind that benzene is a known carcinogen (it causes cancer) in both animals and humans, and tert-Butyl acetate is known to irritate skin, eyes, and respiratory tract.
As such, you’ll want to make sure that you use Wipe New in a well ventilated area, cover your hands with gloves and cover all other exposed skin, and dispose of the Wipe New bottle and wipes appropriately after use.
How Does Wipe New Work?
Although it’s probably clear based on the ingredients list, Wipe New is not a wipe-on protectant like Armor All, but is more akin to a plastic-like sealant.
As such, Wipe New reacts chemically with the surface it’s applied to, not only to bring out the original luster, but also to protect the surface from further oxidation for a period of months or years.
With this said, several readers on this Reddit thread wondered how Wipe New would realistically react with leather auto interior.
Is Wipe New Easy to Apply?
There is a fairly good Wipe New application video on YouTube that demonstrates the process, which appears to be relatively easy. However, you’ll notice that even just a small amount of the nano-polymer appears to have an extremely potent smell, so you’ll want to use it in a well-ventilated area.
In addition, the nano-polymer is flammable, so keep away from high heat or an open flame.
For additional application guidelines, be sure to read through Wipe New’s How To page.
Customer Reviews for Wipe New
At the time of our review, there were well over a thousand Amazon customer reviews for Wipe New products, and more than 620 reviews for the Original Trim Restore product alone. There, the product had an average rating of 3.6 stars, with common compliments referencing ease of use and positive results.
On the other hand, the most common complaints appeared to reference failure to work, that it may not be as easy to apply as the company makes it seem (have to apply to dry surfaces that are dust free and in the shade—not in direct sunlight. Must allow it to sit for 24 hours after application without exposure to water, dust, or oils from skin, etc.), and that Wipe New doesn’t last as long as the manufacturer claims.
Similarly, Wipe New had an average rating of 4.3 stars on Walmart.com, with compliments and complaints mirroring those found on Amazon.
Consumer Reports compared Wipe New’s original formula with several other popular options in 2014, and found that it was “by far the easiest to use.” The organization also found that Wipe New “brought back a rich, dark finish and maintained that look throughout test without added applications.” However, as noted above, they also mentioned that Wipe New’s vapors were the strongest of the bunch and that it should only be applied in a well ventilated area.

Wipe New products come with a 60-day manufacturer’s refund policy, less S&H charges. Although there isn’t anything specifically mentioned on the company’s website, numerous online customers claimed they had to jump through some hoops in order to obtain refunds, such as emailing a copy of the original receipt, providing before and after pictures, and more.
As such, you might want to make sure you hang on to you your receipt and take a picture before you begin the application process.
If you purchased Wipe New products from a third-party retailer, refund policies will vary.
Can Wipe New Restore You Car, Boat, or Home Exterior?
Chopping to the point: Overall, Wipe New’s products seem to have mostly positive online customer reviews, with many consumers claiming to have been satisfied with the outcome.
Like any popular product though, not everyone will experience equally positive results, which is likely due to the fact that there seem to be numerous variables that can cause streaking or cracking with Wipe New, such as exposure to moisture, dust, direct sunlight, and oils from skin, not to mention the surface it’s being applied to.
With this in mind, if you decide to give Wipe New a try, we might recommend purchasing from a local retailer. This way, you won’t have to worry about long shipping times, lost S&H charges, and a cumbersome return process if you’re dissatisfied.
Finish is inconsistent
After reading the instructions and watching the video on YouTube, I attempted to use the Wipe New product on the exterior black plastic finishes on my vehicle. Some areas came out looking as they should. However, the main area, a roof cowl, came out looking like crackled white powder. As of now, I would never use this product again!
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
Wipe New headlight
I read the instructions twice. I even masked off the metal to prevent paint damage. I sanded as per instructions (both sides of the pad) and let the car dry overnight. Next day I put on the gloves, carefully opened the sealed bag, not dripping anything on the car. Well, the tiny rag inside was barely moist and when applied it to the headlights made no difference to justify the time, cost and effort. This is nothing but a scam.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

We have purchased one Wipe New product in the As Seen on TV aisle at Walmart and one in the Automotive section of Walmart. We are very upset because when we got home, the one from the Automotive section we didn't open right away. It was because my husband thought it was different than the one he purchased from the As Seen on TV section.
I went to use the first one the same day we purchased the second one and found that it had eaten through the bottle and turned to a chemical crystal mess inside the package. When I took the new one out of the box, it also had started eating through the plastic bottle and was turning to the crystal mess. Needless to say, we haven't been able to try the product as yet. Very unhappy!
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Was going to buy new headlights if it didn't work, but was pleasantly surprised to see that in such a short amount of time and with very little effort they looked like I had bought new ones. Six stars!
Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
