About Zip Chopper
The Zip Chopper is a 2-cup capacity pull string chopper that’s claimed to make dicing and chopping quick and easy, and to allow you to make fresh croutons, crackers, cakes, pastries, and more.
According to the manufacturer, the Zip Chopper is fun to use and much lighter than normal food processors, and operates by pulling a string attached to a grip handle. Once this occurs, the Zip Chopper’s 3 razor sharp blades will spin 10 times each time the cord is pulled, allowing you to chop (5 pulls), finely dice (10 pulls), and even crush and puree the ingredients of your choice.
And when you’re finished, the Zip Chopper is claimed to clean easily and store away in almost any drawer, giving you a convenient way to make fresh and healthy food for you and your family.
But before you hand over your hard-earned money for the Zip Chopper, consider the following:
Similar Options to Zip Chopper
Although many “As Seen on TV” manufacturers would have you believe that their products are the greatest things since sliced bread, the reality is that they’re often just redesigned versions of products that are already on the market.
With this in mind, there are several products available online that operate very similar to Zip Chopper, which you can see for yourself by typing “pull string chopper” into your favorite search engine. In fact, you might be able to find some of these at local big box retailers, which could save you a good chunk of change in S&H charges (more about this in the Pricing section).
Will the Zip Chopper Work as Well as the Manufacturer Claims?
We didn’t test the Zip Chopper ourselves, and with no online customer reviews (more about this next), there wasn’t a way to gauge overall satisfaction levels or get a handle on how well it works.
However, many of the most popular pull string choppers currently available (such as the Kuhn Rikon) come with high marks for functionality, ease of use, and that it’s ideal for individuals with arthritis. Whether or not Zip Chopper customer will experience the same remains to be seen, though.
Customer Reviews for Zip Chopper
Zip Chopper was a very new product at the time of our research (URL registered April 2014), so no online customer reviews were available.
With this in mind, Zip Chopper is manufactured by Telebrands, one of the biggest players in the industry who also makes dozens of other popular ASOTV products, including Copper Hands, Hurricane 360 Spin Mop, Toucan Opener, and many more.
Among nearly 200 HighYa reader reviews for these products, they held an average rating of 2 stars, with common complaints citing poor quality, failure to work as advertised, and difficult customer service experiences. While you may not experience the same with Zip Chopper, it’s something to keep in mind.
Also, consider that Telebrands held an F rating with the Better Business Bureau as of 4/21/15, with more than 1,200 customer complaints. In fact, the BBB actually revoked Telebrands’s accreditation, and the company was the subject of a 2014 investigation by the New Jersey Attorney General for 5 different violations of the Consumer Fraud Act.
Zip Chopper Pricing & Refund Policy
The Zip Chopper is priced at $10 plus $6.99 S&H. According to the product’s website, you can order an additional unit for $6.99 S&H, although this option wasn’t available when we attempted to check out.
The Zip Chopper comes with a 30-day refund policy, less S&H charges. This means that if you choose the BOGO offer and are dissatisfied, you might lose 50% more in S&H charges than you’ll receive as a refund.
With this said, in order to request a refund, you’ll need to contact customer service at 855-668-1655.
Is Zip Chopper Your Next Kitchen Tool?
Chopping to the point: There weren’t any online customer reviews available for Zip Chopper during our research, although many competing pull string choppers received high marks from consumers. Whether or not Zip Chopper will live up to this same reputation remains to be seen, since many “As Seen on TV” products have reputations for poor quality and failing to work as advertised.
Because of these concerns, we might recommend searching for pull string choppers at local retailers before purchasing the Zip Chopper, which could help you save a ton of money in non-refundable S&H charges, and might make the return process easier as well.
