Lydia NoyesExperience

Lydia Noyes is a health, wellness, and lifestyle reporter for HighYa.

Together with her husband, Lydia spent three years living and working on an ecological preserve in the mountains of West Virginia. There, they hosted work camps and wellness retreats for groups from across the country and honed their homesteading skills by maintaining a historic Appalachian property, tending to a quarter-acre garden, and corralling an ever-changing collection of livestock.

While living in West Virginia, Lydia developed a passion for writing by keeping a personal blog based on her experiences and later by working as a freelance writer with a focus on health and wellness. Lydia joined the HighYa team in the fall of 2018 and appreciates the opportunity this position gives her to use her community wellness background to delve into health topics from a different perspective. It’s her goal to break down complex health topics to their fundamental questions so that her readers can make better-informed decisions for their health and happiness.

Educational Background and Hobbies

Lydia earned a Bachelor of Arts at Calvin College in Environmental Studies and International Development and focused her college years on studying the connections between food, farming, and general health.

She is also an Associate member of the AHCJ (Association of Health Care Journalists).

When not writing, you can find Lydia working on her hobby farm, a 34-acre property in southwest Michigan.

There, she experiments with new ways to improve her household’s food self-sufficiency. She keeps it stocked with garden-fresh produce, pasture-raised eggs, and berries and mushrooms foraged from the surrounding woods.
