Progress over perfetion

By Torrey G., Atlanta, GA, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has helped me to understand how it is ok to love me for me. We all have our own trials and tribulations but we must accept ourselves in the process. BetterHelp was sent to me to help get myself to understand I can change my thought process and build a new foundation that I can be proud of. I am nowhere near the person who I was when I started. They are helping to reach where I want to be and allowing me to embrace my journey.

Finally did it!

By Kara J., Gainesville, GA, Verified Reviewer

I have spent the last year going through the process of starting a profile on BetterHelp and never actually following through to get help. I've been dealing with my major depression for longer than I like to admit. I finally broke down and reached out all the way. I was still very hesitant and scared to seek help. I had to force myself to continue through the process of actually seeking help for my depression because it was getting to a debilitating state. Affecting work, life, relationships, everything...I just kept telling myself "I cannot do this on my own. I cannot keep living like this. I need help". My therapist and I are making better progress than I thought would happen. I'm excited to see how much better things will get, I'm in this for the long term results.

I do wish the sessions were a little longer. It's like things start rolling and you're opening up and there's progress being made, but then you hit your 30 minutes and have to wait until next session to hopefully make more progress.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

It's on my time, I can send my therapist a message of my moods and thoughts as I have episodes

I can do all of this from the comfort of my car, bed, couch, anywhere I feel comfortable it

I'm not having to make an appointment, try to remember it, hope I can make it with life throwing crazy stuff at me

No trying to remember all the things that happened that week that I wanted to discuss during the session before the end of the session

The therapist seem to truly care about you as a client, they are focus on finding out what's really going on and effectively

Wish the sessions were a little longer

There are times I wish there was a questionnaire in regards to the mental illness and severity, it might help some people

Excellent service provided

By Laura S., Littleton, CO, Verified Reviewer

My counselor is excellent, I was comfortable talking to her right away and she understands the issues I’m trying to work through and resolve. I have used the video option and prefer that but have also used the phone and I really like that you can communicate with your counselor between sessions. The response times are very good as well. I would recommend BetterHelp.

Therapist is great and service is convenient, confidential, easy to use

By Katy D., Vista, CA, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has been great in assisting me to get a better handle on my mental health. Especially during the pandemic, when in-person therapy is not available, I have been able to work on myself and heal through the therapy offered at BetterHelp. The app is easy to use, and scheduling phone or video appointments with my therapist is convenient. The therapist I was matched with has been awesome, incredibly helpful, and I feel like I am doing much better.

The next generation of mental health care

By Mary R., Ann Arbor, MI, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp is amazing. It provides easy access to therapists, without the hassle of expenses of traditional health care/insurance. It accommodates students and low-income people, which is invaluable in this economy. It offers video calls, voice calls, and instant messaging, so you can choose which you're most comfortable with, all from your home. It also makes it super convenient to chat with your therapist via the messaging service it provides. The only issue I've heard of is that the therapists tend to not be very well-trained, and sometimes aren't very qualified to handle every mental health issue. My therapist is fantastic, but some other people haven't had as great of an experience as I have. Overall, I think BetterHelp has great potential and I'd recommend it to anyone.

BetterHelp has been a great way to stay in constant contact with my counselor. The price is better than most places in my city, and I like that it’s accessible online. I feel that I have been matched with an excellent counselor, and that this site is a good resource for those looking into therapy. I do not like that the live session is only 30 minutes, but the texting makes up for it.

After just a few weeks of using BetterHelp, it has already made a huge impact on my everyday life. Being able to contact my therapist at any time and knowing that I'll hear back in a day or less is an amazing feeling! I truly feel that BetterHelp has allowed me to make tremendous progress in much less time than traditional therapy. It has the ease of texting with a friend and the benefits of feeling like you get a therapy appointment every day of the week!

I've already recommended BetterHelp to some of my closest friends and I would absolutely recommend that you try it too!

Reflective space

By SA A., Bahrain, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp was a pop-up I saw on Instagram and I felt like it would be good to try it during the pandemic because it is a remote service. In the beginning, I chose the wrong therapist and didn’t have a good experience because I lost a month in miscommunication, but I decided to give it another chance and I was truly happy to have found a therapist to guide me through my issues that were of this standard of support and experience. Also, I find that I will continue even after the pandemic and stay in this app because of the tools it offers. Even after I finish counseling for the issue at hand, it offers a journal section, which is great to stay on it and share with your counselor at any time if needed. This truly helps me.

Strength during rough life experiences

By Aimee M., Missoula, MT, Verified Reviewer

I pursued counseling at a dark time in my marriage. My husband was struggling with suicidal ideation due to extreme childhood trauma. As his wife, I went through immense stress during this time. Coupled with other mental health issues I had before this, I was struggling in day to day life. BetterHelp was a glimmer of light and remains a strength to me as I continue to navigate life's challenges.

My first counselor didn't respond within the first 72 hours. BetterHelp reached out to me during that time to check on my experience. I assume they notified her to contact me immediately, as she did within an hour of me filling out that survey. When she did respond I found her to be unhelpful. I switched counselors and they let me choose from a list. My second pairing was much better and I have been with that counselor for 10 months. BetterHelp's network added extra days onto my account for the time the first counselor didn't respond. And they are very good and checking in regularly to see how you are doing. Take the plunge, counseling will help. The staff is so helpful when there is a problem like the one I initially encountered.

Counseling on my schedule

By Christen P., Dallas, TX, Verified Reviewer

I’ve wanted to speak with a counselor for years but couldn’t figure out how to make the time and money work. BetterHelp is much more affordable than traditional, in-person sessions, and best of all, works around my schedule. The counselor they assigned me is AMAZING. It gives me peace of mind to know I could have requested someone else if needed, but she has been perfect. I’m so thankful I took the leap and signed up.

If at first you don’t succeed, try again!

By Amy L., Barnstead, NH, Verified Reviewer

I worked with a counselor that wouldn’t respond to me in a timely manner, when I decided to switch, and it was the best thing I could’ve done for myself. I now have a counselor that LISTENS before responding and asks questions that help us both to understand the situation better. If you’re in need, seek help, it’s not a life sentence, you can always be better, and this app is truly amazing.

Therapy is crucial

By Kelley D., Georgia, Verified Reviewer

I believe this service is giving people who feel like therapy is inaccessible or not suitable a chance to see that it's not just for crazies, it's for any human who needs to be heard. Especially now, finding someone who will listen, relate, and respond, and not judge or condescend is so very crucial to the survival of so many. I personally know how therapy can change a person and, having lost friends, I know it could have made a difference.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Cheaper than regular therapy

Can easily find a doctor who specializes in your baggage

Easier to encourage friends to join

Not being able to get diagnosed or prescribed antidepressants

Still pretty pricey even though it's cheaper than regular therapy (but I get it)

Amazing!

By Abby S., Austin, TX, Verified Reviewer

I have been with BetterHelp for about two months and I have absolutely nothing bad to say about it. My counselor, Linda Owens, is probably one of the sweetest people I have ever met and you can tell she knows her stuff because she knows exactly what to say and how to say it. She has done nothing but help me through my experiences and shows confidence in doing that. I recommend this service to anybody who is looking for therapy at a decent price and accessible from your house, especially during COVID.

Best therapy platform

By Angela G., Hillsboro, IL, Verified Reviewer

I was considering seeking out some form of therapy and was hearing about BetterHelp on a couple of different podcasts. When I decided I needed to get started, I chose BetterHelp because of the variety of options. I can schedule a live chat session, or video and message between sessions. My counselor has been a good fit for me and knows how to get to the root of the problem.

I have had to re-schedule sessions because of scheduling conflicts as had my counselor. BetterHelp has always made it right by adding an extra week for missed sessions on the counselor's part and they are very fair and offer financial discounts in the beginning.

I was only going to do this for a couple of months because that is the money I had set aside for this. Now that I have been having weekly sessions, I have added this to my budget to make sure I can keep the therapy going. It has been the best decision for me.
