Summary

CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved, nonsurgical procedure for freezing fat off your trouble spots. While this procedure should work as described for eligible candidates, your results may be subtle, and it’s not a viable alternative to traditional weight loss.

Pros

  • Less invasive than surgical procedures like liposuction
  • Can lead to longterm results if you maintain a healthy lifestyle
  • Little risk of serious complications
  • No downtime after the procedure

Cons

  • Results may be subtle
  • Costs add up quickly if you are treating large areas of your body
  • Won’t result in significant weight loss
  • Customer reviews indicate many people are unsatisfied after treatment

No noticeable results

By Suzanne J., Cheyenne, WY, Verified Reviewer

I had one session on my lower abdomen. I am not overweight but just have some fat on my abdomen that I cannot get rid of even with exercise. I did not notice any results at all. I did not return for additional sessions. My abdomen was much more sore than I had anticipated. I was not impressed by the results.

21st Century snake oil

By Elle J., Dayton, OH, Verified Reviewer

I had two areas treated - hips and belly. After 30 days, my hips DO seem to have shrunk, but I see no appreciable difference in the belly. However, I DO note that my rear end is bigger!

There is a reason why CoolSculpting salespeople, techs, and staff say specifically that the procedure does not cause weight loss (which, you would think would be the case if fat cells were being burned off, right?).

Nope, white fat cells in the TREATED areas (in my case only one of the two) do diminish, the fat cells in other areas are still there, and they take on the extra fat that the old area no longer can.

This makes common sense, and if I had thought it through, may have come to the realization by myself, but $3k later, and one (relatively unpleasant) treatment to go, it finally dawned on me.

If you want to shrink a particular area, go for it, but expect some other area to take on that bulge.

Expensive lesson to learn - "sounds too good to be true" - this sure was.

Coolsculpting

By JE Scalf, Boston, MA, Verified Reviewer

$3600 later and hernia surgery, not only did CoolSculpting not work, but in order to do the procedure you had to sign a consent form saying a hernia could result, which actually happened. CoolSculpting did not make a difference in the belly fat at all and the experience was painful afterwards. I would NOT do this procedure nor recommend it to anyone.

No results

By Karina Carrillo, Frisco, TX, Verified Reviewer

I have had three areas treated and have had no luck in seeing any kind of changes. My stomach area actually looks worse because the top suction cups made what they called "nodules" with my fat cells.

I went in for my before and after picture review, and it was very obvious that this treatment did not work on me. I spent $5,000 on these treatments and believe that something should be done besides me getting two calls from a nurse saying that Corporate said nothing is going to be done.

Very disappointed

By Cristi, Hollywood, FL, Verified Reviewer

I am very disappointed. I was so excited about finally losing my belly fat. I'm two months in, and there is absolutely zero change. Now I'm stuck with the bill. Depressed and disappointed. Not only do I have this bill, I also signed up to the gym for good results.

I would have done better having a tummy tuck or liposuction

By Denise Swain, North Carolina, Verified Reviewer

I had the procedure done in January of 2017. I have been waiting to see results but saw nothing by May. So I went back to the office and was told they can definitely see improvement, but before I went into the office, I took measurements and 143 went to 144.4, 27 went to 31 and a 1/2, and 31 went to 35 and a 1/2. Then I was told, "I suggest that we do another large on the bottom." I did not pay $2,175.00 to pay even more to see "NO" results. I was the told they could get the priced reduced from $1,400 down to $980 for a second try. This, I thought, was so crazy!

I was not happy at all so I emailed a Product Support Specialist and this is want I was told:

Sorry to hear about your unhappy patient. CoolSculpting is going to affect all patients differently. As stated in ZELTIQ consent form: "Clinical studies have shown that the CoolSculpting procedure will naturally remove fat cells but, as with most procedures, visible results will vary from person to person." The reason for no appreciable results can be multi-fold: even though some patients may indeed be non-responders, most other causes can be managed, such as patient expectation, patient selection, number of treatments prescribed, applicator selection, applicator placement, etc.

Please, do not waste your money because it "DOES NOT" work and once you pay the first installment it will continue, FAKE!

Disappointed!

By Suzanne Perras Campbell, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I had the treatment at the end of February, and I am disappointed. Overall, the results are minimal for the cost of the treatment. In my experience, the information provided was somewhat misleading. The swelling and bruising lasted about seven weeks and during that time I was unable to wear regular clothes, which made it challenging to dress for work. I resumed my exercise routine but had to stop because it was painful and had to see the dermatologist associated with the clinic.

Very disappointed

By Kerry Cossins, Queensland, Australia, Verified Reviewer

I thought I was investing my $4,000 in something that was a legitimate way of losing the fat around my stomach and upper thigh area. I wasted it all. I lost nothing in my stomach or thigh area. I went back to the where I had the procedure done after four months and was measured. It was confirmed that I lost no circumference at all.

The person who was the representative for the Zeltiq machines, the person who performed the procedure and myself attended the second appointment. I was told at my first appointment, that "I was an excellent candidate" and that "I would only need one treatment round" to achieve great results. The lady who represented the Zeltiq also measured me and then told me that I must have "stubborn fat," and that I would need another session.

From the first appointment and being told I had the "ideal" fat to a few months later being told I had the "wrong" type of fat and would need more sessions, I was disillusioned. I said to the staff that I felt that they only wanted my money and was immediately told that they can't guarantee any fat loss at all. This was different from when I was at the first appointment.

I couldn't afford to waste this amount of money and can't stop kicking myself. I researched all I could about this procedure before I undertook it, and spoke to two different companies. To be honest, I can't see how it works for anyone now that I have been through the procedure. My advice, invest your money in liposuction or something else which will work.

CoolSculpting is no good

By Donna A. Cox, Gulfport, MS, Verified Reviewer

Save your money; it is a scam. It only works if you have a perfect shape already. I forked out $1800.00, in Gulfport, MS at a Pass Road doctor's office. I did not have a paper thin loss in fat or an ounce loss of weight. They do not take measurements or weight. Only rigged fake photos. Spend your money on new clothes to make you feel better.

Not a fraction of a difference in three months!

By Christie S Goodwin, Florida, Verified Reviewer

They had a Mother's Day sale ($700 instead of $1400) so I thought I'd try it. I was trusting mainly because they say it is "FDA approved."

First of all, it hurt! They don't tell you that. Secondly, they put the responsibility on YOU saying you must massage several times a day and drink lots of extra water in order to make it work. They don't tell you that ahead of time, either. Then they cover themselves by telling you that you probably won't see a difference until about three months but they do not schedule a follow-up appointment for that time. I weighed 130 lbs (I'm 5'5") and then and I weigh 130 lbs now (August 2017). There isn't one fraction of a difference. I might as well have thrown my money in the trash.

No results

By Jo Eddy, Vancouver, WA, Verified Reviewer

I had this done also in Vancouver, Washington, which included three areas and the tummy, with no results. When I waited the three months with nothing happing, I went to see them, and they were gone. Has anyone heard of a law suit about this? I cannot afford to throw money away either.
