Greatest relief

By Elisa G., Gilbert, AZ, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has given me the space my mind has needed to feel relief again. My burdens have been taken from my shoulders one at a time. The people here are flexible with your schedule, diligent in searching for the right therapist for you, and caring in every aspect.

I love using BetterHelp because I can reach out to my therapist 24/7 and expect a timely response. I can plan my meeting with them weekly, and there’s even an option for a group session if I am interested. I can do it from the comfort of my own home as well, and they help me make goals to improve my life permanently.

I never would have thought I could feel so motivated to become better again. My hopes have never been higher. Thank you, BetterHelp!

By Nicole C. , Chatsworth, GA

I reluctantly decided to try therapy and I'm so thankful that I chose this outlet for my therapy. My therapist has been extremely supportive and is there every time I need anything. The cost is definitely affordable and worth it for all the help available to me. She helps me stay positive and I'm so thankful for the BetterHelp platform.

No customer service

My therapist was great, the customer service isn’t. There is no customer service phone number. All communication is done through email. This to me is shallow and cold. Like most companies and institutions these days, the customer service is poor.

Hats off to BetterHelp!

By Brenda T. , Ashland, KY

I selected BetterHelp at a very important time during my journey to heal and reconnect with my children after a 22-year-old critical fail.

From the wide variety of options to connect with my therapist to the large set of resources and the undeniable skill of my therapist, this service came at exactly the right time in my life.

I would recommend this service and my therapist to any and all that I know who are serious about healing.

If on the fence, please know that after 22 years of speaking to “professionals” this is the first time I have encountered a real service that is there to help me heal.

Give it a try

By Margaret L. , Corcoran, CA

My situation might seem trivial to some people, but it had my stomach tied in knots and was making it hard to concentrate at work. Can online therapy help when the therapist is across the country in a different time zone? Yes, it can! It could not be more confidential. There is no scrambling to get to an office on time, no concerns about coffee or seating, no waiting room. I spoke with my therapist by phone, over my computer. She understood my situation and offered perspective and her skills in family dynamics. She helped me see it from a new perspective, offered some coaching to help me manage it better, and I feel better now.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Very skilled therapist

Paid for by my work - no cost to me

Appointments from home - saves time

Confidentiality

Waiting time for appointments

Availability of appointments

BetterHelp is a necessity

By Felicia G. , California

I'm 32 years old and have been in and out of therapy since I was 7. I come from a small town with old-fashioned views and sometimes a lack of knowledge and understanding of alternative lifestyles.

With BetterHelp I have access to fresh and open-minded therapists that do not judge and are knowledgeable about current events. They are positive about different lifestyles. LGBTQ+, Polyamory, and everything in between.

I've been using BetterHelp for 6 months now and I've made more progress than with any other form of therapy. This service is a necessity to me and I believe everyone should at least try it if you're thinking about it.

The group therapy is incredible and you can have so many sessions in between individual therapy if you need them.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Convenience

Options

Control

Shortness of 1-on-1 appointments

Price

Lack of interactive options on the dashboard

A huge impact on my life so far

By Julie S. , Cincinnati, OH

I had never seriously considered therapy before — time finding just the right person, the time involved, the cost — but since BetterHelp makes it so easy to start, I gave it a try. I’ve only had 2 one-on-one sessions so far, but it’s already had a huge impact on me. BetterHelp matched me with someone based on my needs and requests, and I couldn’t be happier with my therapist. Emotional healing is very difficult to do alone, and to bounce my thoughts and feelings off a professional has proved to be rewarding and extremely effective.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The convenience of scheduling

Ease of finding someone to match my needs and wants

The multiple options for group therapy

BetterHelp is a blessing

By Nichole R. , Eagle River, AK

I have been very grateful to BetterHelp for providing a convenient way to connect therapists with patients. I have had a difficult time finding a therapist locally whom I can connect with. Thank you BetterHelp for what you do.

Being able to reach out to your therapist by messenger between sessions is a game-changer as well!

BetterHelp is wonderful.

By Allison P. , Bethlehem, GA

BetterHelp is a wonderful platform for therapy. They do in-depth questionnaires and surveys to match you with your therapist. One of the things that had put me off of therapy is that it was so hard to find a match with someone that I was comfortable with.

But BetterHelp connected me with someone that I look forward to talking to. It's a safe place for me to go every week and I can discuss whatever I want. We work through all kinds of things and there is no structure.

BetterHelp lets you sort of design your own therapy by asking questions about what YOU want YOUR therapy experience to be like.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The personal touch of the BetterHelp experience.

Connecting me with a great therapist that I relate to and feel comfortable with.

The flexibility of the appointments and the fact that you can do remote sessions, I think a lot of people would go to therapy if they didn't have to drive!

Sometimes the video quality is not so good.

Sometimes it says I have not recently booked a session with my therapist when I have seen her within the last week.

Don't give up

By Andrew R. , Wooster, OH

Life is never easy. Everyone has something weighing on them. Having someone I can be brutally honest with and not feel judged is so comforting. Great service with reasonable limits

By Spencer B. , Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

I have used BetterHelp for two years now, with three different therapists. They've all been professional and punctual, and it is comforting to be able to look up their credentials at any time, and switch if it isn't working with no penalties.

In terms of overhead, BetterHelp has been flexible and understanding in terms of pay to a point, the help service is prompt. Do keep in mind that you have to pay for a block of sessions up front, which can be frustrating if you need to change therapists to find a good fit. You also will not get a refund if you have to leave therapy early, your payment is final.

There are also limits to the sort of care BetterHelp can provide, you will not be able to get a diagnosis, medication, or emergency help from this service. BetterHelp does a good job of facilitating talk therapy, but that's it. Like with any therapy, there will be therapists who pad out their resume or treat you as a meal ticket, but be patient, there's no penalty for switching if you don't connect with someone.

Also, to BetterHelp, pay your therapists more.

Length of Use: 1–2 years

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Accessibility of care via text, video, or phone

Journal functionality

Cost (if you buy 3 months at a time)

Changing therapists without penalty

No refunds, only service extensions

BetterHelp does not guarantee any of their therapists' credentials

Every therapist is overbooked, so unless you're fast there won't be an available call session
