I read the instructions first, and I decided not to stand on it.
I sat on the edge of bed first and then put my feet on the mat to get a feel for it, and I have to tell you, it's very stimulating. I guess since I didn't put my full weight of my feet on the mat (I think it's too hard to stand on without socks); otherwise, the sensation that I get feels great! It actually makes my feet tingle and itch a little.
I don't know, but after being on my feet all day, I welcomed the relaxed stimulating effect.
