I bought the OraQuick kit from Walmart, took it home, read the instructions, and performed the test. At the 20 minute mark, I looked and to my absolute horror, it was POSITIVE. One dark red line at "C" and a faint pink line at "T." I sat there crying and staring at this test for at least two hours.
I decided this test HAD to be wrong, so I drove to CVS and bought ANOTHER $40 test kit. At the 20 minute mark, I looked and this test was NEGATIVE! I was dumbfounded. I was confused, anxious and angry all night. It was a terrible nights sleep, to say the least.
The next morning I drove straight to a rapid testing center in my town where they performed a finger prick test . The results were ready in 15 minutes. NEGATIVE. I showed the counselor both of the OraQuick tests, and she agreed the first one was definitely a positive result.
What the heck? These false positives could cause people to do crazy things when they're really NOT even infected! Do NOT waste your money on this test; to a testing center. Lesson learned!
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
