Decent for the price. Does the job it needs to do as long as you don't press too hard. If you're pressing any harder than you'd sketch with a pencil, then it'll stop rotating.
I use to put initials on all my tools. I wouldn't use it for any kind of precision work. Not so sure I'd use it for artwork, but I guess that has more to do with artist's skill than the tool they're using.
I'm writing this review specifically to address the "falls apart when putting batteries in" issue. The Engrave-It is very simple construction. Think of a flashlight except instead of a light at the head of it; it's a small motor with an engraving tip. This assembly is meant to pop out, that's how you change out the tips.
It doesn't really "fall apart," rather it "comes apart."
I've had mine for a few years now, and I'm pretty satisfied with it.
