I was super excited when I found out about this card and had to have it because I get Starbucks at least 4 times a week. I've had this card for about a month. The initial online sign up was easy and adding it to my Starbuck's app was easy, but my card never got loaded with the $25 I put on it at the signup that it requires you to put on there.
The $25 came out of my bank account but never showed up on the card. I had to call the number on the card to let them know. They went ahead and corrected the issue, but until it was fixed I was loading the card via the Starbucks app which would immediately accumulate SB points when I made my purchases with the prepaid card. However, when I spoke to the man on the phone who added the $25 to my card, he asked if I wanted to "merge" my current Starbucks gold account with my prepaid card. Seemed like a good idea at the time. After he "merged" them (which actually just looks like he removed the prepaid card from my SB app account) I no longer accumulate points to my Starbucks account when I use my prepaid card.
It would not allow me to add my new prepaid card back to my app and just gives me an error saying that my card number does not exist or isn't active. However, through the Chase app, I can still load it just fine and use it just fine. So basically I now have a Starbucks prepaid card for zero reasons.
It doesn't add points to my SB reward account anymore, and I've loaded and used at least $100 and only got points for my first 2 drinks on it from the money I loaded onto it via the SB app prior to the "merge." I tried calling back several times. I have only gotten ahold of 2 people one woman who said it takes 3 to 5 days for the points to post (we are going on 15 to 20 days now with still no points) and another woman who ended up hanging up on me after I waited on hold for about 40 minutes.
I have tried contacting them to correct this but have gotten nowhere. The only plus side to this card is that it's super easy to load and loads instantly from my bank account and there are no monthly fees, but that's not why I signed up for this card. I signed up for the SB rewards points because I go there so often and I'm not getting them. I'm going to give them one more chance, but if I can't get it resolved, I'm cutting it up and throwing it away. To me, it's not worth it. I would certainly not recommend this card to anyone at this time.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
