This card was good until it suddenly stopped working. After being declined at a few businesses, I rechecked the balance, and indeed there was money available. I called the number on the back of the card, which is a special Chase department. They said that I canceled it, which I had not. After being passed around from rep to rep for over an hour, and hearing different explanations ranging from "we're seeing that several different cards were canceled for no reason" to "your card isn't canceled" to "your card doesn't exist."
Clearly they had no idea what was going on and finally said they'd put in a "research ticket" and somebody would be getting back to me in 24-48 hours. After that time came and past, I called again and was passed around Chase again. After two hours of mostly hold time, I actually ended up with the same person I started with, who said that she believes they sent out a bunch of cashiers checks to cover the amount on all the cards that were canceled. I said that wasn't good enough, that I demand an explanation, as I feel my account had been compromised and she had nothing.
My guess is that they may have underestimated the amount that people would use the card. We'll see if they actually do send me my money back, or if that was a way to get me off the phone. Highly unprofessional and frankly dubious business practices.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
