The smell will gag a horse!

By Denise W. , Pine Hill, AL

This is the worst bug spray ever! You have to pretty much drown the bug in this spray to get it to die. The smell will linger in your home for hours and hours. I sprayed a water bug in my living room one evening and I had to spray so much of the product in it just to have it lay there a wiggle around for a while. I just gave up and ended up smashing it with a shoe. My house smelled so awful from the fumes and the next morning you could still smell it very loud all throughout my house. It cost way more than other bug sprays and between its ineffectiveness in killing unwanted bugs and the awful smell it definitely isn’t worth buying.

Worthless spray nozzle

By Juan C., Denver, CO, Verified Reviewer

This product does kill all sorts of insects, but it leaves a terrible smell that lingers on and on. And the oily mess is hard to get rid of. But the worst thing is the faulty spray nozzle of the aerosol can. In the beginning, it works fine. But after a few uses, it stops working. You need to redesign the trigger.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

It kills all kinds of insects

Leaves behind an awful smell

Leaves behind an oily mess

The nozzle mechanism stops working after a few uses

The odor of the spray ran me out of my house.

By Lana E., Edmond, OK, Verified Reviewer

We purchased Zevo because we have pets and wanted something safe. I saw a spider run into my closet so I sprayed the bottom of my closet. The fumes were so bad I couldn't sleep in the room that night. I had to open the window, set up a fan blowing to the outside. It still was so strong, it was awful. I ended up having to run an ozone machine for hours. Finally got it to a point I could sleep in there but you can still smell it. The odor is toxic. It gets up your nose and in your mouth and you can't get it out. I can't imagine if one sprayed an entire room with this stuff. Would never recommend!

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

I think it is false advertising to say this is safe and non toxic.

Not safe for pets

By Samantha H., Cincinnati, OH, Verified Reviewer

I sprayed Zevo on my plants and windowsills that had a massive flying insect problem. It only kills on contact. I then opened the doors and windows and put on the fans for about 4 hours to get the smell out of the air — you can still smell it but it fades overnight when you do that. However, my dog woke up the next day with red eyes, lethargy, and no appetite. Then he threw up like in dry heaves with yellow frothy stuff coming out of his empty belly. Not sure if he will recover, but Zevo needs to be sued for saying it is safe for pets. (See prior reviews where it killed kittens.)

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

No “pros” were specified in this review

The lies on the product as in "safe for pets"

The false advertising that it kills pests, it doesn't kill pests, drowning them doesn't count

The substance is ineffective unless you want sick or dead pets

Not safe for pets

By Alicia F., Philadelphia, PA, Verified Reviewer

Used this product one time in the downstairs of my home, and not even an hour later, my dog is covered in hives and her face is puffy. I got her out in fresh air and it started clearing up, but as soon as we were back home again, it slowly started getting bad again. THIS IS NOT SAFE FOR PETS AT ALL. Never had this kind of reaction with Raid or any other big-name bug spray, and this stuff wasn't even used in a room my dog is allowed to go in!

2 dead cats, one very sick dog

By Sarah M., Reform, AL, Verified Reviewer

At first, I LOVED this stuff. It’s awesome…but only in a “fly-swatter” type of way. You have to spray the pest directly.

Then, a perfectly healthy cat of ours was found dead and completely free of any trauma.

Then, my dog started throwing up randomly and yet another cat got sick and it was horrendous to watch because this cat (who we always called the savage because he was our snake slayer) wasted away into nothing because he couldn’t eat or drink water at all. It was a very slow death and it was irreversible once it began. Nothing ever sprayed around him or on his food or water.

I say stay far from this if you have a pet. Even I would get nauseous over it at times though because the smell does linger after you spray it and it’s sickening at times.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

I thought it was going to handle our fly and mosquito problem

I thought it was going to do it safely

It was affordable

It didn’t do it safely

Perfectly healthy cats got sick and died within days

We lost animals we loved because I trusted this mess

Do not get this product

By Australia S., Nashville, TN, Verified Reviewer

My grandmother had insects so we bought the product to spray in her house. That night, after spraying, her throat got very irritated and she started coughing up blood. Not thinking it was the bug spray, we continued on and used it, and about a week and a half later, the same thing! I do not recommend this product!

Does not work, horrible smell

By Becca W., Oklahoma City, OK, Verified Reviewer

I used this product to take care of a roach issue. I’ve sprayed them directly, I’ve sprayed it in my trash can, I’ve sprayed it on the counters. It doesn’t do anything except make my head hurt from the fumes. I don’t think it’s safe for people. I’ll be using STEM from now on; at least that one works (although it’s stinky).

Flies

Heavy oil residue!

By D T., Santa Monica, CA, Verified Reviewer

We love supporting products that produce less harmful chemicals and are environment friendly, however, we are not satisfied with the excessive amount of oil the Zevo spray leaves on the surface. After using the clear spray bottle a couple of times on our kitchen tile floor, we are dealing with messy oily footprints all over the wood floor in our home. Note that we only used the spray in a couple of spots on the kitchen floor, however, the oil remained there for days! Dry wiping the oil just did not work, instead, we had to use wet mops to lift much of the oil. This is just too much work!

We can no longer use this product unless the company finds a way to reduce the amount of oil in the solution.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Eco friendly product

Product quality

Very oily residue

Nice buuuuuuutttt

By Rikkia W., Springfield, IL, Verified Reviewer

I just received my Zevo today. I used it in my problem area. I like the fact that it does work and it works pretty fast. The downside is the smell. It's pretty strong and quite lingering. To me, it is not a good smell at all. I think it stated that it had cinnamon oil in it, however, it doesn't smell like cinnamon at all. It's really hard to describe the smell. It's a very greasy spray as well. You really have to wipe it off when you spray it on a surface. I would recommend for pest control. I wouldn't recommend of smell. Even though insecticides aren't supposed to smell good it shouldn't smell like that.

Kills but they come back

By Anna A., Idaho, Verified Reviewer

Ok people, I do use Zevo, and yes it does kill springtail, which is what I have. But as soon as it dries they come back so I am buying it all the time, which is expensive. So my husband went to Home Depot and brought me some OdOBan cleaner citrus scent big yellow jug. You have to dilute a bit but when I spayed it on my baseboards they died and they do come back but a lot less frequent. You can also put a few drops of mint oil and it works longer. So try it out and see if it works for you. It is a lot cheaper at 8.00 a jug. I like Zevo but the price was killing me more than the bugs.

Puzzled?

By Beverly D., Austin, TX, Verified Reviewer

I bought Zevo about a year ago because I started to spot a few spiders in my garage down here in hot Texas. I used it and never saw another spider in the remaining year that I lived there. So I've moved now and there were a couple of huge ant hills in my front yard. So I remembered Zevo and saw a couple of commercials and said, I will get some. I purchase 6 cans of 3 different sprays (not needed) and use it on the anthills, sure enough, it killed the big red ants. However, in about a week, I started seeing tiny ants in the same hills. So I thought, "Did they shrink?" Just kidding. It took a whole can to kill the hills so I ordered some more to try to take out the tiny ants. In the meantime, I suppose they have some kind of vendetta against me because now the tiny ants are popping up in my bathroom. (Kidding again folks.) By this time my new supply had come in. Not cans this time but bottles. So I pull out the gun and start spraying. It killed or drowned them, but each day over a week I still see more coming. What is going on here? This is some high-priced drowning fluid. Why do the bottles seem to be less effective and smell is different than the cans? I am perplexed by this situation. I just had to kill or drown 2 more ants so I decided to check this out. Anybody else having this problem?

Length of Use: 1–2 years

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The can spray seems to work better than the bottles

It works on spiders and large ants

Order and delivery was great

The tiny ants don't seem to be phased (except by drowning)

Apparent inconsistency in the product by package method

Works but irritant to humans

By Heidi D., Lititz, PA, Verified Reviewer

The smell is pleasant, that of citronella, and it does kill on contact, however, it left me with sinus and throat irritation as well as a lingering headache. Sprayed in the a.m. and still suffering hours later at work! I thought this would be a better alternative to pine-scented RAID. Although RAID scent was strong, it did not irritate like Zevo. Will not buy again. Also, RAID dries quicker. Zevo leaves a puddle of oil that I'm not sure would dry so I had to wipe it off the floors and I just left a thin line around baseboards and doorways.

It's effective on the bugs we use it for but the smell from the spray is intolerable!

By Carole W., Red Bank, NJ, Verified Reviewer

I have asthma and allergies and the residue from the spray is overwhelming, causing me to have headaches and coughing. I have to turn off the air conditioning and then air out my entire house after its use.

Bomb

By Monica D., Spring, TX, Verified Reviewer

We had a freakin' gnat infestation...nothing we did could get rid of them. Zevo, our hero, one sweeping spray where they were and they dropped dead. The roaches as well. Yes, it smells strong and essential oily with major vanilla notes, and it is greasy! BUT...killed a German roach instantly - like dead in its track. Seriously, I’ve never seen that ever. Instant death. Soooooooo, for $15.99 you can try 3 cans. I say GIVE IT GO! And if not, $6 for a can is nothing. Bengal Roach spray is $15-$20 a can and the roaches laughed as I sprayed.

Spraying trigger

By Robert R., Texas, Verified Reviewer

As far as the product goes, it does what I want it to do, kill roaches. The only thing I don't like about the product is the spraying trigger. In my opinion, it needs to be redesigned, to make it easier to use. The trigger is kind of awkward and uncomfortable to use. By the time one figures out which way to use the trigger, the roach is long gone. Can't you redesign the trigger and make easier and faster to use?

Get rid of annoying fungus gnats

By Sheri K., Green Bay, WI, Verified Reviewer

After retiring, I thought I would get back into household plants. I went to Stein and bought a few African Violets. Well, they were full of fungus gnats. I tried everything to get rid of the nasty things. So bought your spray for gnats. While reading the directions it says do not put on plants. So I thought - those dang gnats like water. So I put spittle water in the bottom tray and sprayed Zevo on the water. Bye-bye fungus gnats. They are all gone!
