First time seeking therapy

By Sharon M., Waterford, NY, Verified Reviewer

I was very nervous, as I’ve never sought therapy before. My counselor, Crystal, put me right at ease. She was very easy to talk to, and she was great at discovering my needs and goals for our sessions. I feel better being able to talk to someone who can bring about perspective from a third party. Something you really can’t get from family and friends.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Convenience — weekend hours and sessions without leaving home.

Cost is reasonable.

Many counselors to choose from, so if you don’t connect with one counselor, you can switch until you find the right fit for you. I’ve only just started, so I haven’t found any yet.

Worth the time

By Presley S., Post Falls, ID, Verified Reviewer

I haven't had a therapist since I was a child and I was going through a lot that I felt that that therapist wasn't helping with and that she was really just in it to get money from my parents, who didn't listen to me about not wanting to continue talking to her. Because of my interactions with her and a lot of my childhood/parents, I've never tried to go and see another therapist because I've always had a bad taste in my mouth for them.

Thankfully, almost a decade later, I decided to finally give in and try BetterHelp, and I'm so glad that I did. It's much more affordable than I'd thought it would be, and my therapist is absolutely amazing. She has helped me be more aware of things that I think of throughout the week and has helped me learn more about myself in a way that I don't think I could have done on my own.

I would absolutely recommend it for anyone I know close to me, and I would recommend it for people like me who are in need of help, but deny it and put it off until they no longer can. Get BetterHelp and get better help, what's to lose?

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Affordability

Flexibility of schedule

Different ways to talk to therapist

App is slightly confusing to use at first

Sessions may be shorter than in-person therapy

Delay in app response (app issue)

Easy access to great support

By Jae G., Sonoma, CA, Verified Reviewer

I've worked with a few different therapists at BetterHelp and have appreciated each one. One thing that is important to me is finding a therapist who really connects with me and "fits" what I need and want to work on. BetterHelp makes it very easy to find the right therapist. Not only that, there are MANY group therapy sessions available and you can get text/chat support throughout the week between your therapy sessions. It's really quite incredible.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Flexibility

Ease of access

Great therapists

Interface of site is a little clunky

Reviewing therapy groups to find a good one is messy

Therapist descriptions are vague and often very similar

BetterHelp is a lifesaver. I LOVE IT!

Therapy whenever you need it!

By Lauren H. , West Virginia

I've done BetterHelp for a while now. I've worked with a few different therapists until I finally found the perfect fit for me. This is one of the best things about BetterHelp! Having a therapist you connect with and trust is the most important thing to make your sessions productive. For the cost, BetterHelp is definitely worth it. The 24/7 ability to send a message is an amazing feature. When something bothers me I put it in the chat so I remember to discuss it in my next live session. Highly recommend!

Convenient way to reflect and build the life you hope for.

By Gigi C., Washington, DC, Verified Reviewer

I think the biggest question for people is a reflection on the life they live vs. the life they've built. There are so many moving elements to this bigger question. I recommend wholeheartedly BetterHelp.com. Why? It's filled with therapists who are qualified and experienced, and, too, you can access counseling from your own home through phone or video. Once you build a connection with your therapist, you will see that doing it virtually is just the same. This saves travel time to in-person. Also, the cost is not as steep as traditional methods and with all the qualifications and help. Definitely try them on for size! Too, if you don't resonate with your therapist, you can change. Go for it! It WILL improve your life and steer you toward fulfillment.

Length of Use: 1–2 years

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

That it is helping improve my life to fulfill myself.

That my therapist is available, responsive to emails even when we don't have a session, and empathetic whilst also being guiding during sessions.

The convenience of the platform for scheduling and accessing appointments.

Not only has BetterHelp been helpful, but it’s been useful. I wasn’t happy with my first therapist but BetterHelp made it easy for me to switch. Once I got my new therapist, I was relieved and felt hopeful about being in a better road to success. It doesn’t hurt to try. Changed my life

By Violet S., Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

Once I found the right therapist for me on BetterHelp (was easy to request a new one within 24 hours), it had already changed my personal and romantic life. I’m learning about myself more to understand myself and also learning ways to help cope and change behaviors. I weekly look forward to my video call with Dr. Jones as he is empathetic, supportive, and the best listener. This was the best choice I made for myself in a long time.

BetterHelp

By Dayna E., Nevada, Verified Reviewer

At first when I started BetterHelp, I was concerned because they provided a disclaimer that they do not handle certain situations (trauma, suicidal ideation, etc.). But I was still able to get the help that I needed. The very first therapist that they paired me with is the only one I’ve seen! He has helped me through so much and I am so very thankful for this app. Trust me, I was scared to take the first step too, but give BetterHelp a shot. You get to schedule with your therapist whenever YOU need. It’s worth every penny.

Life is better after therapy

By Paloma L. , California

It was so easy to find a great therapist who I connected with. She helped me overcome personal issues and past trauma. I see life in a whole new perspective and I feel so much lighter. It's amazing how the smallest little issue can really be rooted in something deeper and we just need a little help seeing that and understanding it. Thank you.

The group sessions were incredibly helpful as well and really made me realize I was not alone.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Easy to use and I love my therapist

By Dave K., Ventura, CA, Verified Reviewer

So much of the struggle of finding mental health help is finding a therapist that is both a good fit and available. BetterHelp makes this so much easier. I switched from my first therapist because it wasn't clicking. I'm so glad I did, because the second therapist was perfect! We've been working together for nearly a year now.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

BetterHelp is the best kind of help

By Joshua H., Westfield, MA, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has been the only therapy service that I've really liked, and I've tried several other comparable services. Having gone from provider to provider, one Mental Health app to the next, I was honestly ready to go back to the drawing board with the whole therapy thing and wash my hands of the online stuff completely, but then I tried out BetterHelp and it finally worked out the way I wanted to. It's like a millennials dream service, in which I can literally just DM my therapist if I need anything. The one-on-one sessions are productive and help me stay grounded, plus the group sessions and seminars are really good resources too, all of which are in the app. I can do everything I want/need to do straight from my phone without any trouble. 10/10 would recommend to a friend, i.e. you.

Length of Use: 3–6 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

I was worried that video therapy would feel awkward, but I was so wrong! Gail sets an open and comfortable environment where I feel free to share anything and I never feel judged. Her input is helpful and easy to understand. I have been able to apply what I learn in session and it’s helping me reach my goals and live a more balanced life in general. I’m so grateful to her and BetterHelp for making help so accessible.

Life-changing

By Whitney P., Centre, AL, Verified Reviewer

I suffer from bipolar one. My mind is a constant battle. I have had many obstacles and tragedies in my life. I would ball the problems or grief up and try to forget. But it only made my day-to-day life harder. Reaching out to BetterHelp really was life-changing. I have talked about things that I have never spoken to anyone before. I've cried, I've gotten angry, I let my emotions go. All that grief and anger and abuse are out. I needed help and BetterHelp was there for me. My therapist is there for me. The best decision I ever made for myself was to get help. I recommend this!

Amazing support

By Aline R., Stockholm, Sweden, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp has reconciled me with therapy. It is easy, accessible, and flexible. My current therapist is very helpful and I was able to switch therapists very easily early on, no questions asked. I believe this to be a major hurdle for in-person therapy — the difficulty of switching early on and finding the right person with trial and error.

I have already recommended BetterHelp to several friends who found the idea of therapy daunting.
