Love this app

By Angie L., Tampa, FL, Verified Reviewer

I love this app. I have lost 12lbs and I'm just starting in week 5. My group coach I'm not crazy about, but my private coach and I chat all the time. My private coach is a man, not a robot or the girl in the picture. I will continue to use the app and have signed up several friends and family. I feel better, look better, and have discovered some of the terrible eating habits that I never realized were impacting my weight so much. I didn't sign up for any of the extras, just the regular Noom app. I paid $149 for the months, and I sent my code to friends and family with got a discount down to $104 for the three months. I read everything before signing up, and it was clearly explained on how this app works and functions.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Overwhelming!

By Deborah G., Harrisburg, PA, Verified Reviewer

I used Noom for four months. I lost and regained the same five pounds - twice. I liked the articles. They were easy reads; written in a positive upbeat way. However, there was too much information given too quickly for me. It was overwhelming. The Coach was not helpful. That was disappointing to me because it was the personal Coach that I was willing to pay the $50 a month. Lastly, they encourage group participation, but that was not productive. Group members did not know how to "thread" a conversation, there was never feedback to posts, and most group members did not encourage anyone else. Overall, I chose not to renew.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Debit without confirmation

By Phindile N., South Africa, Verified Reviewer

I downloaded the app and did the so-called trial. I couldn't follow up much with the trial. I was never sent any email asking if I'd like to continue with the subscription, however, they just debited money without my consent. Trying to get a refund is a nightmare because there is no number you can call, only emails. All the numbers provided are not working. This is a scam. The app is slow. When I want to redownload, it can't download. Taking money from people without confirming with them. Worse is that's my child's school fees. I should have been warned.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

No refund if not satisfied

By Elizabeth B., Basking Ridge, NJ, Verified Reviewer

Not a bad program, but it’s one of those things that you sign up for free and you get a big $139 charge after two weeks, automatically. There are NO refunds, even prorated.

I was disappointed that it’s really just a cut your calories to starvation levels. They didn’t mention that in the ads.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not what I’d hoped for...

By Alexandria M., Johnson City, TN, Verified Reviewer

I saw the commercials for Noom and thought it might be a great way to help me! I downloaded the app to find out that it would cost me, roughly $19.00 a month. They claim that the program should be done for at least 8 months. It boasts about coaches, education, and accountability. I found all of this lacking. The "coach" seemed like a bot that just fills in the blanks. Also, it seemed as though it auto-generated responses to reiterate my own responses back to me to make me think it was real. Only a dummy would think that.

So I did the 14-day trial which entailed logging food, crappy educational today bits, a robotic coach and promises for something better the next day which never really happened. It required me to utilize my phone for every move to count my steps. Which is nearly impossible to do because who keeps their phone in their hands the whole day? Really, it came down to only using the app to log food, and I can do that on any free app. I do like that they split the food up into colored groups, but then again that doesn’t work if the food logs aren’t actually accurate or updated. I, unlike many here, was actually able to message my cancellation. Once I did that, it asked me why I wanted to cancel and offered me to go on a month to month basis with cancellation anytime instead of one lump up front charge. I, of course, declined and canceled altogether. Not useful for me whatsoever.

It’s okay

By Jaclyn M., Seattle, WA, Verified Reviewer

I can see this being a good program for people who have never had to manage their weight, or maybe have never experienced any weight loss success. But it doesn’t seem like anything new at all to me, and it has not helped me achieve anything I couldn’t have done on my own. It cost a lot of money, that I frankly do not have, and I do feel it was a waste. I continue to use the app religiously hoping something will change. So far I am very disappointed.

I am a behavioral therapist, with my background in psychology. I was hoping this program would work to provide reinforcement for desired behaviors and help me lose some weight. I was hoping it would be something new that helped me achieve new goals that I had not been able to reach previously...

I’ve struggled with my weight throughout my life. When I was at my heaviest of 230 I started hiking with my dog, it became my new favorite activity and I lost 80 pounds in 9 months, and never looked back. When I started hiking, I told myself I would continue for my health even if I never lost a pound. I didn’t want to be physically limited. Along with that new habit though I did lose weight and eventually I did stay motivated to maintain a healthy weight, and did desire to have a healthy number on the BMI. I eventually started long distance running as well, and writing down my food intake. That was in 2009/2010. I fluctuated between 145-155 between then and now, and created a bunch of healthy habits throughout those years.

However, after the holidays this year I had reached 160 pounds, the highest weight I’d been at since before the weight loss. Plus, I had never actually achieved my weight goal of a healthy BMI. I am between 5’1” and 5’2” so 160 is very close to being obese according to the BMI. I chose to try Noom hoping it would be something different. It is not something different at all. I could have used MyFitnessPal to track my food for free. I could use groups that I am already a part of on FB for motivation and support. I could have gotten an online health coach for much less than what I paid for Noom. Everything Noom has are things that I’ve already done. Most of the habits they prompt me to create are habits I have already formed. There is very little new information. I try to stay positive and tell myself that it’s helpful to be reminded, and I just keep following along, I’ve just kept going because that is how I roll. But I have been frustrated, burnt out, and feeling duped out of a lot of money lately.

The group on Noom is incredibly disorganized. When the app prompts me to share with the group, the group leader should have already started a thread with that topic. That has yet to happen. The threads the group leader starts have NOTHING to do with our tasks for the day so people just post, it’s incredibly crowded and scattered, and not everyone is on the same day. To make matters worse more people were added to my original group apparently because not enough people were posting? Some of us expressed our concern under the topic when it was announced that more people would be added, but we were completely ignored. At first, I tried responding to lots of posts and posting myself. Few people commented back. It felt like a total waste of time. I got nothing out of it and typing responses/posts on my phone can take an hour or so out of my day. I stopped using the group to stop the frustration.

My goal specialist seems nice. I have a burning feeling that she’s managing a very high number of people.

At the end of the day, this program has not been worth the money for me so far. I keep going anyway. I’ve been sticking to it. I might as well use the tools, right? And for people that are completely clueless, I would think this would be something different and it might work really well. For me, not so much.

I am going to answer no to the recommendation question, but here’s the thing, I probably WOULD recommend this to someone. I’ve talked to people who tell me they can’t eat a piece of bread because they’re cutting carbs while at the same time drinking a full sugar soda. People who hear nuts are a healthy snack so they eat a huge Costco sized jar and can’t figure out why they aren’t losing weight. People who think granola bars, flavored yogurt, and trail mix with chocolate in it are health foods. Those people need programs like this. I am aware that checking calories is important, and eating foods that will fill you up i is important. I am aware that treating myself REASONABLY is also important, while sticking to my goals. Some people don’t know that. Furthermore, this app has told me that exercise doesn’t cause weight loss on multiple occasions. Okay, maybe not total causation, but correlation indeed. I ate healthy, was a vegetarian, but was sedentary and was very obese. When I began regularly exercising, I lost a ton of weight. I barely changed my diet for the first 50 pounds; my diet only changed because the exercise naturally caused me to eat fewer calories. For the first 50 pounds I didn’t track ANY of my food. I stayed on the same vegetarian diet I’d been in for years. So I think that telling people "exercise has benefits, but it won’t cause weight loss" is incredibly dangerous. I know it goes into more detail than that, but unfortunately, most people are very focused on weight alone. Even if they’re prompted to set other goals it’s easy to be fixated on weight. So telling them that exercise won’t cause weight loss will stick in their head above some of the other things and frankly it’s a bad idea to say that. Exercise is INCREDIBLY important, and I know y’all know that based on other statements that have been made in the articles.

Anyway, I’ve got to stop ranting, lol. I do think you have a good thing here, just way overpriced and heavily flawed. Good luck.

No way to problem solve or get what I signed up for

By Martha D., Pittsburgh, PA, Verified Reviewer

I used Noom in 2016/2017 and had a wonderful experience. Of particular value were the individual and group coaches and the quality of their attention, responsiveness, and advice. The app worked as it was described without any glitches.

I decided to use Noom again in 2018/19 as I again needed some support for wanted diet and lifestyle changes, however, I am having a completely different experience. The personal coach is brief and doesn't seem interested in tailoring advice to my particular needs, is asking questions not too distinct from that which I imagine a robot could generate. Also, while I was supposed to be connected to a group after two weeks (I believe), it took over a month, so the group had already started receiving coaching and interacting for a while before I joined and it is really hard now to get into the swing of things.

I have paid money into it but am experiencing none of the same benefits this time around. The most unfortunate part of all of this is that I am not able to speak to a neutral customer service representative in order to request solutions or a change in my personal coach. I would have to request it from the personal coach herself, which feels very uncomfortable.

After weeks of feeling a bit off about this Noom experience, I decided to hit the cancel button (whereas if there were a customer service number offered I would have stuck with the company by requesting a Restart with a new coach and group). What happened when I hit the "cancel" option is that I was offered a discounted price to continue. So instead of being able to make the adjustments I need, I am now paying a portion of the cost. None of these issues, however, have been resolved and I am starting to wonder now if even the discounted cost is worth it.

Last week the personal coach offered to start my program over with a new group all starting at the same time, and I thought to myself, "well maybe this literal re-group will help me to regroup and get motivated again." It has been a week, however, and for whatever reason she has been unable actually to execute this change. The bottom line is that I imagine there are multiple issues that could be resolved if I had access to a customer service phone or chat line. This might be a great service for you, but it will depend on your luck in getting good coaches and everything working as it should. If not, there is no quick way to resolve things!

Definitely worth the try

By Erica B., Middletown, NJ, Verified Reviewer

I have been on Noom for six weeks and I’m loving it. I am already down 8 pounds and I don’t really feel like I am dieting or sacrificing everything. It’s taught me how to eat right and even navigate restaurant menus. I’ve tried lots of different plans before and this one has made me the happiest. I’m not losing pounds by the day, but it’s slow and steady and I feel completely different in my clothes, and I’m not even halfway through my program. Give it a try. It’s worth it.

Life changing

By Regina R., Braselton, GA, Verified Reviewer

I have struggled with my weight all of my life it seems. Before trying Noom, I’d let myself get almost as big as I was when I was pregnant 10 years ago and was unhappy with myself but unmotivated to do anything about it. I kept seeing commercials for Noom and something about the thought of the program kept returning to my thoughts.

I finally decided to give it a try. I signed up for the free trial and set off. I decided to be completely honest with myself with food logging, activities and my thoughts/feelings in general. This has truly changed my life for the better. I have good days and bad days just as before but now I know this isn’t an all or nothing situation.

This is helping me help myself be a healthier me for myself and my son. My son has CP and will need lifelong care. One of my biggest fears is who will take care of him when I’m gone. So I’m doing what I can to stay around and be able to do it myself as long as possible.

In my 50 years, I have learned that I cannot do the "quick loss" challenges or the no-this or no-that plans. Whenever food becomes off-limits, I want it all the more. So I haven’t said no to anything. I will have just enough to satisfy me without going crazy, or I’ve even found myself easily deciding it just wouldn’t be worth it at the time.

I am so thankful I’ve found Noom and am already well on a good path of feeling better and fitting in my clothes better. I highly recommend it and have already done so to anyone who has asked.

Love my Noom app

By Arlene S., Encinitas, CA, Verified Reviewer

Noom is turning my life around to the better. I love the app, it is so easy, and I look forward to reading through it each morning. I can tell you when my 16 weeks are up I'm signing up again. Truly Noon is that enjoyable. I had 50 pounds to lose. After 3 months I'm down 25 lbs, and looking so forward to kicking the last 25lbs overboard. Great program, I cannot say enough good about it.

Yes, they took my money too...

By Lynn D., Florida, Verified Reviewer

I should have remembered, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Only $1 for a 14-day trial period I never used. Then I thought they would either allow it to run out or ask me to sign out for the full program. Nope, they billed me for $129 for 4 months of the program. When I saw then payment in my PayPal account, I immediately tried to contact Noom to tell them they made a mistake. Well, you just can't get through to them. It's impossible. Download this, click the bubble, use the code in your email, phone number with a recorded message. Impossible! My advice - don't get involved with Noom. It's one big SCAM...
