Not unhappy with product but turned off by lack of customer service

By June W., Clearwater, FL, Verified Reviewer

My grudge is not with the product (well - not that I know of yet, only a blood test with hopefully positive results will determine that).

I have emailed a question (about three weeks ago now) regarding one ingredient in the Nutra Thrive Cat Powder and have YET to receive a response.

Ironically my question was posed in the email as a response to, "Let us hear from you." Not overly impressed with the treatment from this institution (I guess they really don't care to hear from you or nobody is reading and monitoring the emails incoming).

Of course, I will still get a blood test done on my cat to see how her organs are doing with the influx of this supplement powder.

The product itself, thus far, has caused some positive behavior changes in my little four-legged fuzzy fur, for she is no longer scratching her ears as though she has mites (and I had her checked, she doesn't). She no longer scratches her neckline frequently as though she is infested with fleas.

So my speculation is her allergies have tapered off by this supplement. I am not even giving her the entire little recommended daily cup that's in the product container. Rather she is only getting the amount fitting on the tip of a knife. At any rate, I would still like my answer reference my concern with the ingredient Cholecalciferol - i.e., what is a toxic amount? And how is the amount of "toxic" calculated (i.e., ml per lbs?)?

Definition below:

Cholecalciferol is one of the most potent mouse and rat poisons on the market. When ingested in toxic amounts, cholecalciferol, or activated vitamin D3, can cause life-threatening elevations in blood calcium and left untreated can result in kidney failure.

Side Effects Cholecalciferol

Lethargy.

Inappetance.

Vomiting.

Diarrhea.

Weakness.

Increased thirst and urination.

Kidney failure.

Signs to look out for with vitamin D poisoning include:

Not eating or decreased appetite.

Excessive or decreased thirst and urination.

Weakness or lethargy.

Dehydration.

Bad breath.

Vomiting.

Diarrhea.

Weight loss.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Hi June, I'm Shayne from Ultimate Pet Nutrition. I wanted to formally apologize that your question went unanswered! We do our best to make sure that all customers are responded to, so I am so sorry that you went through this experience. I'd first like to mention that I'm thrilled to hear that are you are already experiencing positive improvement in your cat's behavior since starting the product. Regarding your question of Cholecalciferol...There is 75 IU of Vitamin D in the Cholecalciferol in Nutra Thrive for Cats. According to The Association of American Feed Control Officials, the Adult Maintenance Minimum is 280 IU, so we are very far below a toxic amount. Vitamin D is an essential nutrient for cats, which is why we included it in our formula. We absolutely never make a product that was unsafe or harmful. Please e-mail me directly at Shayne@ultimatepetnutrition.com if you have any other questions at all!

Very unhappy

By Marie S., Nebraska, Verified Reviewer

This is the most God awful smelling crap. My dogs eat anything right up, but they walked away from the food each time I gave this to them, which was 4 times. It smells like gasoline, not bacon.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

No change so far

By Rick H., Whitewright, TX, Verified Reviewer

I have had my 3 female labs on Nutra Thrive for 30 days (8, 4, and 3 years old). I have seen no changes whatsoever in any of my dogs so far. Hesitant to spend another $250 for another month of Nutra Thrive with no results seen. My dogs are all healthy and in good shape. Like all dog owners, I want them to live as long as possible. It would cost $3,000 for 12 months to keep them on it. With no clinical studies defining the efficacy of this product, I cannot justify continuing with Nutra Thrive without seeing a visible improvement in my dogs in any category. To sell a product at this price with only the promise of improvement and to not have some means to prove it, is for the rich or desperate.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Specifics on contents not available

By Connie S., Washington, Verified Reviewer

First, I make my own dog food, and anyone who attempts this knows how complicated it is. So maybe I shouldn't have purchased something that was an additive for commercial dog foods. However, I felt just in case I was missing something this would be a great safety net.

I really needed to know precisely how much calcium there is in each scoop. I use a bone meal calcium with phosphorous and magnesium in my recipes and I want to subtract the appropriate amount depending on the calcium in the Nutra Thrive.

I called Nutra Thrive (Ultimate Pet Nutrition) twice and they are not able to give that information, it isn't available to the reps you talk to on the phone. I was given a weight, but it seemed to be the weight of the composite (not calcium alone) and was very high. I told them that I didn't think that was right, it was much higher than recommended, and it was probably for the whole scoop and not for the calcium in the scoop. They couldn't help me any more than that.

FYI, a dog needs 50 mg calcium per kilogram of body weight. A kilogram = 2.2 pounds. So a 20-pound dog needs 450 mg calcium per day.

The first rep I talked to said Nutra Thrive has 3.8 GRAMS, not milligrams, the second said 1.8 GRAMS per scoop.

1 gram = 1000 mgs, so you can see how extremely high one scoop of Nutra Thrive would be if the reps were correct. I'm going to assume that they aren't correct.

Based on that conversation I ended my subscription. I told them that unless I could get a printout of the specific nutrition content, I didn't want it.

I'm not saying this isn't a great product, and dogs on commercial food wouldn't benefit from it. I'm extremely cautious and with senior dogs, I'm not going to take any chances.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Not great for my cat

By Renee R., Verified Reviewer

I used it for 6 weeks. My cat is not a picky eater and ate it up on his regular food. But I saw no difference.

The reason for 4 stars - I quickly received a response on how to return and get a refund. I got my refund quickly.

It seems like a lot of pets benefit from this. With their great refund process, it is worth trying it out to see if it works for your dog/cat.

My cat died after taking this

By Drae W., Los Angeles, CA, Verified Reviewer

My cat developed kidney failure and other issues then died 3.5 months later after I added this into her diet. My other cat got diarrhea. It was definitely this because I stopped giving it to my second cat once my first one died and his diarrhea stopped. My cats were older but according to the vet did not have health issues before then. They were playful and very lively. When my first cat started getting sick and got out of the hospital, a $6k bill mind you, I increased the dosage and her health rapidly decreased and she passed away 3 was later. She was improving when I got her home at first then I added the powder more and more in her food then she died. Please advise this! Just because a vet created this doesn’t mean western medicine is the way to go!

Drae, I am so sorry to learn about the passing of your cat. Losing a furry loved one is one of the hardest things we have to endure as pet parents…On behalf of everyone at Ultimate Pet Nutrition, I am so sorry for your loss. Every batch of Nutra Thrive goes through rigorous testing for quality, purity, and potency. Our sole mission is to improve the health and happiness of all pets. We would never create a product that we did not believe in, let alone, a product that is unsafe for consumption. We believe in our products, which is why every product is backed by a 90-Day Money Back Guarantee. I wanted to mention that we always ask that our customers consult their pet’s veterinarian prior to starting any new supplement to ensure that it’s safe for that specific pet to take depending on their medical history, allergies, etc. In addition, if our customers find that their pets are reacting negatively to any product, it is always recommended to stop giving them that product immediately. I am so sorry for this upsetting experience. Please e-mail me at Shayne@ultimatepetnutrition.com if you have any further questions. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.

My senior lab is acting like a teenager again!

By Bridget B., Hampton, NJ, Verified Reviewer

My 12-year-old lab was limping and lethargic with hip/knee pain for the past year before supplementing with Nutra Thrive. Now he’s walking around and playful like he used to be! He loves the product and we love how much healthier he is since starting it.

Excellent product for shinier coat, less dandruff, and good digestion

By Anne B., Arizona, Verified Reviewer

I adopted Jake, a small rescue dog who came into the shelter infested with tics, had tick fever and flaky, scabby skin. His wavy black coat was dull. Two weeks on Nutro Thrive, and his coat is shiny, the flaky skin from where the tics were attached have diminished, and he is eating and eliminating better.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Terrible customer service

By Nikki I., Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I have been feeding this to my cat and can’t really say if it has been beneficial to his health or not, but one thing I can say is the customer service is terrible, especially for the price. I ordered online and was mistakenly sent the dog formula instead. I called customer service and they advised me that I can return it but I have to pay the return shipping, even though it was their error. I spoke with two separate representatives and they both told me there is nothing they can do. They also have another customer service number listed on the website which is out of service. I definitely have my reservations if this is even a legitimate company at this point. Very disappointing as I was expecting more for the price.
