Noom have some things to fix:
- The messaging system is not great and as yet I have not managed to find any instructions on how to search it or send PM's, though the latter function is said to exist.
- It's US-based which means that a lot of the foods I'm trying to log are not recorded already, which makes food logging laborious.
- There is a log new foods function which is supposed to notify you when foods you have recorded all the nutritional stats for are added to the database are added - I've been using Noom for 6 weeks now, logging foods in detail since I started and not one of my "adds" have appeared in the database. They are available for logging my daily calories but the "analysis" and color-coding element is still missing.
- Being US-based means that my coach and I are not in the same time zone so back and forth dialogue is fairly stilted.
- The app doesn't sync between my devices so I have to remember what I've eaten during the day to log it all on my iPad when I get home at night.
After that lot, you may be wondering why on earth I'm still using it...
Put simply, Noom is by far and away the best app I have come across for exploring and understanding the psychology and physiology of weight-loss, plateaus and I hope, eventually, keeping excess weight off. I have stuck with the process longer than I ever have before and lost 8lbs to date. I also like the fact that no foods are forbidden or "bad."
In the end, though, the technical and cultural issues listed above mean that I wouldn't recommend this to a friend as it creates a lot of extra and unnecessary work.
Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
