    BetterHelp

Easy to use and on-demand therapy

    Overall Experience:

The BetterHelp process was really simple from the start. All of the questions they ask to pair you with a counselor are easy to navigate and aren't too invasive. Even though it does seem a little strange at first, there's something about it being a chat window that makes it very familiar and comfortable.

Though it did take a bit of time before being paired with a counselor (they say it usually takes a couple of hours, but up to 24, I was close to 24 if not more) I expect this is due to high demand at this time.

All of the user interface available is very intuitive and helpful. I really enjoy the journaling aspect (I never considered myself someone interested in journaling but I decided to try it) and it's really simple. Having the app, and the desktop make BetterHelp usable wherever I need. I can see, however, that this may be offputting to an older audience or less technology forward person. Even though it is super easy and intuitive, the fact that it is all online could be difficult for some.

I have only had experience with one counselor, but the pairing was a very good fit so far. Contacting her is very easy, and there are several options for our weekly meetings. I am asked to rate her after almost every meeting witch can get excessive, but I understand BetterHelp is trying to get accurate ratings.

I did think initially that video therapy would be weird or difficult, but I don't find that to be the case at all! It's much more natural than I expected which is great.

One of the biggest benefits to BetterHelp is that they partnered with my university insurance to provide mental health services. I know a lot of insurances (especially for students) do not provide mental health coverage, so I do really appreciate the fact that they are targeting an important demographic.

Overall, I've really enjoyed using BetterHelp. I plan to recommend it to some of the other colleagues with my insurance at a later time, and a friend that I believe should seek counseling. It's a great first introduction to getting therapy and less scary than driving all the way to an office you're unfamiliar with.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
