    BetterHelp

    Good therapy, meh

    • Length of Use: Less than 3 months
    Overall Experience:

After completing the sign-up process, I was paired with my therapist very quickly. The help and advice she offered will be something that I remember for a long time. Yes, the therapy is excellent.

It was unfortunate that my first impression with BetterHelp was during a major outage where neither the app nor the website would work for both therapists and clients alike. That anomaly aside, BetterHelp has been very easy to use.

The service has a journal-type function where you can record your thoughts privately, or share them with your therapist (you can message them outside of scheduled sessions). I like that the journal offers you prompts and allows me to record my thoughts and feelings very easily and refer to them later if needed.

It sucks that customer service is only available during certain hours which, in my time zone, is 5pm-1am (BST). I’m kind of peeved that my subscription renewed earlier than expected - so you should double-check that.

But yeah, BetterHelp has genuinely helped me. This is my first experience with therapy and I was super nervous but it was worth it. Poor customer service aside.

    Pros and Cons:

    • Paired with an amazing therapist
    • Total confidentiality and security
    • A variety of ways to communicate with your therapist
    • Easy to use
    • No reminders for subscription renewal (automatic and a day earlier than I expected)
    • Unclear terms when it comes to cancelling your subscription
    • The app and website totally shut down all day on my first day - as far as I know, nobody was reimbursed
    • It feels like the service is run as a business, my therapist is lovely but customer service is slow

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend
