Leaves much to be desired - Noom Coaching

By Marcia C., Massachusetts, Verified Reviewer

I was attracted to the coaching aspect of this app. Unfortunately, that part was extremely weak. The coach I had responded to my questions as if reading from a script. The coaching was not personalized. She asked me how I would prepare to drink more water? Maybe the coach meant making sure there was water readily available, but didn’t say that. There really isn’t much interaction. It seems like the coaching responses are formulaic and the coaches are just going through the motions.

Also, while the daily tips are helpful, the people who write them constantly use jargon and write as if the folks reading these are stupid. The tone gets annoying. The concepts aren’t that hard to understand and Noom’s attempts to simplify fall short.

Finally, the database for food logging is not very good. Many common foods are not included. If you can’t scan an item, it is time-consuming to enter the information.

Noom auto renewal heads up

By Judy N., San Luis Obispo, CA, Verified Reviewer

Noom's contract receipt has a fine print indicating that full refunds of subscription cancellations will not be granted on the day billing cycle starts. There is no communication from Noom that next billing will begin a six month period until the day of charges. So trying to cancel on the same day that Noom gave email of recurring automatic withdrawals from PayPal or bank account will be disregarded. At best Noom will only refund 50% and tell you to continue using their product regardless if you want to or not until the next 6-month billing cycle. PayPal will support Noom and tell you too bad.

No human contacts

By Jaime B., Nashville, TN, Verified Reviewer

Noom operates solely via email. They have a contact number but it directs you only to their website. After having sent an email to customer service, I was met with a response of "We don't have customer service representatives that you can speak with." They only respond via email.

I find this an absolute deplorable way to do business. I had canceled my subscription but Noom charged my bank account anyway. I was obviously unable to get a person on the phone so I went back and forth several times via email.

I was met with responses such as, "We don't give refunds. You would have seen our policy stated when you signed up." I found no such policy on the app, in which I had signed up on.

I've personally concluded that if this is the direction in which customer service is going, businesses will have all the ability to keep people's money and not require a representative to speak with their customers. This should not be allowed and I will not patron businesses that are run as such.

"You can never leave"

By Jon M., California, Verified Reviewer

I signed up for the 14-day $1 plan. After reading over the program for an hour, I decided I didn't want it. I looked around for how to cancel. After an hour and a half of bafflement I was still unable to reach my "goal coach," who turns out is the only one who can allow me out of the program(!); a program that after the two week trial was going to charge me hundreds of dollars a week even if I never went onsite again. I canceled my credit card. I believe they know exactly what they're doing with their allusive "goal coach." I'm sure not having a phone number bewildered rubes can reach is making the company big bucks! "Goal coach" indeed.

Just don't

By Dawn R., Florida, Verified Reviewer

This service was not as promised. I starved with their meal plan. I was promised a workout plan I could use. I am not an athletic person and was provided a 60-page workout plan for an athlete. Also in their small print they did an auto-renewal, so basically they ripped over $350 out of my pocket. In addition, I paid for a DNA plan which I never received the results of. I did receive the test kit it went to the lab and that was six months ago. No results. Save your money. Just don’t.

Nothing to see here folks...

By Mark C., Maine, Verified Reviewer

So there's a tracking app with incorrect nutritional information. I reported it but it was not changed. Every day, you are expected to read a half dozen little articles on weight loss. These were pretty unscientific and tried to be folksy by using terms like "noomalicious." This made it feel like the creators of Noom felt that I was overweight because they thought I was uneducated. This was incorrect and insulting!

I was assigned two "counselors" for individual and group. My individual counselor texted once a week to ask me to choose a goal for the week and to ask how last weeks goal went. There was no excitement about progress or concern about the lack of it. The group was even worse. The moderator seemed to love "ice-breaker" activities like "if you were a tree, what kind of tree would you be?" Weight loss always comes down to portion control, tracking and exercise. There's no need to give your credit card to these Noom folks...

Total scam

By Margaret F., Nashville, TN, Verified Reviewer

They trick you into signing up then make it too difficult to cancel that I had to change my credit card to stop the charges. If you want to be charged forever then go for it, otherwise, stay away. Personal coach Eva was no help in trying to cancel the app even though the website specifically said to message her to cancel. Total scam, a total con. If it were a good product, they would make cancellations easy and give refunds - of course, no refunds!

Impossible to unsubscribe and they go on charging you

By Milla P., Orlando, FL, Verified Reviewer

I did the $1 trial. Very easy to subscribe. After some days I wanna leave. It is IMPOSSIBLE, somehow. So even though they see you are not using Noom at all, they still charge you the monthly fee of $150 something. I had to void my card of money not to run into the risk of getting charged forever. Need more words?

Rip Off

By Michael F., Madison, WI, Verified Reviewer

I am not a runner or walker, I swim. Noom can't handle that.

So much for automated coaching. Too bad I didn't get a human.

Now they are charging me $129 for nothing. What a scam!!

But then what should you expect but another get rich quick scheme.

I'll bet they delete this review.

Review of Noom

By Jay W., Columbus, OH, Verified Reviewer

This program does not fit my personality. It is built on a social media platform. I do not use social media mainly because of my age and educational background.

I wish there were different pathways/platform a to choose from.

Dislike refund policy

By Michelle S., Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I definitely appreciate not offering a refund for someone who has only purchased a few months, but for someone like myself who purchased a full year in advance, I think this is grossly unfair. I would request a review of this policy, and if you want a more favorable review, I would appreciate at least six months refund.
