I feel whole again.

By Marie D. , Belgium

The service from BetterHelp has been a very easy and enjoyable experience. Sitting in your own surroundings, talking to a professional counselor via telephone, video, or email allows you to remain calm and less anxious talking about issues that are sensitive because you're in your own environment. If there are any issues that occur it is very easy to contact to speak to your counselor and they always reply in a timely manner. It is very easy to get in touch even when living outside the USA. I would highly recommend BetterHelp for counseling as they also run free webinars to guide and aid you to become a better version of yourself in relation to your healing. They heal the whole body, not just the mind, but soul and physical health.

Super happy with BetterHelp

By Andi M., Sunnyvale, CA, Verified Reviewer

I signed on with BetterHelp last month because I have been dealing with bereavement and stress issues.

I was matched with April McElroy, a licensed therapist who is in OK. April is fabulous! She listens to me and has been a wonderfully calm bastion of support in the middle of these turbulent times. I have had a lot of therapists in my life and am grateful to have been matched with April.

10/10 I recommend BetterHelp.com. It makes getting therapy easy, convenient, and is super affordable compared to local therapists.

I was skeptical at first

By Sam B., Columbia, MO, Verified Reviewer

Honestly, I didn't think that I'd really like virtual therapy as a people person. I was wrong. I've gone to therapy a couple of different times and the therapist I was matched with was actually the best I've ever had. It's been a wonderful and incredibly helpful experience.

After far too long...

By Tim J., Twin Cities, MN, Verified Reviewer

I can't possibly say how many times over the years I'd been at a crossroads of not only knowing that I needed help, but actually doing something about it. I guess it was finally "my time" to do something about it. Little did I know that I would encounter such a great counseling service with BetterHelp.

Everything about my experience has been not only helpful but it has been a clear and easy to navigate process. Each step has proved to help me find clarity about my life challenges, and my counselor, Tracy, has helped me to navigate a way forward that has me already feel like I'm making progress but has me hopeful about my future.

I wish that I would have found BetterHelp sooner. The resources I have received have been excellent. The options for connecting and processing (journaling, etc.) have met my own unique style and needs. While I felt concerned about doing online counseling rather than a more person-to-person approach, I not only have found this to be very personal but also more efficient and fitting for my needs.

Take the step. Invest in you. Trust that things can get better. Know that there's help. And, know that it's all far easier to find the way forward with a BetterHelp counselor than it is to keep trying to do it all alone.

Love BetterHelp!

By Mariana M., Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

I have had 2 therapists overall and I must say both know what they are doing! The only thing I disliked was that on my second-week session my first therapist quit on me and I wasn’t told that it would count as a full-on session. On my third week I received a new therapist, Phyllis Marcus, and she was a big help! Very friendly and I was comfortable talking to her, on my fourth week (today) it wouldn’t let me join the session cause my card was declined? Even though I paid the full $340 so that was disappointing.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

The different ways of communicating

The schedule times

The apps functions

One of my weeks were stolen and not given back

Money wise

BetterHelp = best help

By Lydia F., Albuquerque, NM, Verified Reviewer

Before I first started with BetterHelp I was wary of the price and if it would be worth it, or if it would just be a total waste of time and/or money. But I'm so glad I was wrong. I always feel like a priority to my counselor...she responds to messages between video sessions within the hour just about every time I message her. She's never late and never changes anything last minute. With that being said, she's also flexible and makes sure I have the freedom and the options to communicate however I am most comfortable with. I will gladly pay the $200/mo. My sanity intact at this time is worth every penny.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

My counselor

The freedom and flexibility

Options of communication

Options for counselor

The price, it's not undoable but I will always like it to be a tiny bit less, it is worth it though

This is a great app

By Melanie T., Chattanooga, TN, Verified Reviewer

I started BetterHelp because I was suffering with anxiety and depression. I was able to pick certain things or qualities I wanted in a counselor and I got the best match possible. My counselor really listened to my thoughts and concerns and she helped me through a really rough patch in my life. I am so grateful for this app and I'm so glad I gave it a try. I had never had counseling before and I really do think that this is what pushed me to get out of the hole I was in.

Best money ever invested

By Tovee Seven S., Canada, Verified Reviewer

Ask yourself what is my health worth, then add $100000 because it is worth it...you’re either gonna spend it on help or prescription if you don’t get your head right and your spirit. In this time of pandemic and suicide being at its highest it’s ever been you can’t afford not to get help. I always thought I was ok until I was lost, gained 40 lbs, cut off all my long hair, couldn't eat, couldn’t sleep, barely got my butt in the shower...it was not fun...or pretty.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

How quickly you can speak to someone

That the counseling is filtered to match you as best it serves you

Some people won’t be able to afford the service

So much help, thanks BetterHelp!

By Maianh N., Dublin, Ireland, Verified Reviewer

Honestly speaking, I struggled a bit on finding the right counselor for me, I went through 5 counselors within 2 days because:

1) Time availability.

2) Methods of Contact; call/video.

3) Time zones.

4) Specialisation - ADHD, anxiety, family.

5) Not using a religious approach.

6) Female/male.

So you get to choose what exactly you want in your counselor, for me I had a lot of requirements so naturally, it took longer and I actually am lucky enough to have an amazing counselor from Texas while I live in Ireland! But since I was quite decisive in this area it didn’t take me too long to find a counselor I found helpful, I was about to give up but I took another shot and I got what I needed and more! Now we’re on weekly calls on Wednesdays and worksheets and I can text in between the sessions whenever I feel overwhelmed.

Cost: Costs can be lowered depending on your income and I got a bit of a reduction and it made a big difference to me. Obviously, therapy sessions are quite costly but it shouldn’t be a privilege, so with BetterHelp, you can actually get really great reductions in costs for your mental health.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Flexibility

So many specializations

Easy to choose a counselor and change

Could be more counselors

Keeps asking me for reviews but here I am

I got put with a lot of Christian-led counselors

My first time

By Ricky M. , East Norriton, PA

I am very new to counseling/therapy. I had always thought it was for people who were worse off than I was. I never thought there was anything wrong, until I hit a breaking point.

Without getting into details, I needed someone to talk to. I needed someone to tell me things were going to be ok.

BetterHelp was extremely easy to sign up for and to find a counselor (at least with the specific issues I wanted to work on). I speak with my counselor Jolene every Thursday morning and it starts my day off wonderfully and it's one of the highlights of my week!

Everyone talks about the price. I never thought I would be able to afford it, and I never thought that it would be worth it. I work in retail sales and I don't make that much money. But can you put a price on mental health? Please trust me when I say, just try it. You will be so relieved and leave the phone call with the first genuine smile in a long time. You may even laugh during your sessions, which I know I missed dearly in my time of need.

I would definitely recommend BetterHelp to anyone who needs it.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Attentiveness

The fact that you can only schedule one session at a time, for example, you can't just pick every Thursday of the month at 11:00

Great therapy right from home

Tried it for a month - didn’t gain anything from it

By Yousra O., South Dakota, Verified Reviewer

In this month period, I had two counselors. The first was good for the most part, except she was doing some coursework and I didn’t feel like I got any info from her, but she did try at least better than the second one. The second one, although she had a Ph.D., she made me feel like I was talking to an inexperienced person who would not comment on any of my traumas besides saying “okay” like say something else! She only laughed when I laughed and that was it. She cut my meetings very short, the most was 20 minutes max. I feel like I wasted money, time, and effort. Very disappointed because I was always pushing myself to go to therapy to heal, but instead I got the opposite!

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

It got me a counselor fast

Counselors don’t make an effort to reach out to see if you're okay

Not very interested in solving client's issue

Refers you to an app and just reads off of what the app has written without giving me a reason of her own reasoning

So happy to have done this.

By Seanan D., Greece, Verified Reviewer

BetterHelp is a great platform that allows you so many ways to communicate with great therapists. I tried a few different therapists before I matched the right one. Don't give up if the first one you're paired with doesn't work for you. They have so many and you can keep changing until you find the right one. You can also communicate with your therapist on video, phone, chat, or writing long journal entries like I did. This makes therapy so accessible for anyone with any type of schedule.

Length of Use: 1–2 years

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

Ability to change therapists to find a good match

All the different ways I can communicate with my therapist

I found an incredible therapist that helped me work through so much

I'm an American living abroad so this was a great way to connect with an American therapist (preferred this for cultural reasons communication is easier)

Amazing

By Katherine K., Cudahy, WI, Verified Reviewer

They have helped in every walk of life. Been truly amazing, all you need to do is text them and they are there for you. Timely responses. If I'm upset, I message my therapist. Good days, bad days, sad days, excited days. My therapist is there. I think this is a better experience than having an in-person therapist due to them being there all the time for you, a therapist is only there during the hour you go. Yes, I have had a couple of therapists in my time but nothing compares to BetterHelp. Thank you BetterHelp, you have helped me so much.

Definitely worth investment if you want value for money and great therapy on tap

By Alex B., United Kingdom, Verified Reviewer

Dr. Daniel has been a tower of strength for me. It’s no criticism for Dr. Daniel but it does take time to connect with a therapist online sometimes but that simply because it can lack that physical contact which is important for some people and was for me, but pushing through it has been so worth it. I only say this because at first I didn’t utilize Dr. Daniel and I didn’t write journal entries as much as I did at one point and doing so meant I connected with Dr. Daniel and started to have a personal relationship with a therapist that I couldn’t have gotten in any other way. I said this is no criticism of Dr. Daniel because he was always there for me from the beginning and I wish I’d utilized him a little bit more, like I said before, but pushing for my own personal barrier about a physical therapist meant I have a great resource for my mental well-being, and I’m not just focused on getting through the day but I am actually starting to work on optimal mental health, which means that I’m focusing my strengths at not just being just okay but being happy with my mental health issues, which are complicated.

I’m comfortable with being quoted as having diagnosed chronic schizophrenia, diagnosed ADHD, possible disassociative identity disorder (otherwise known as multiple personality disorder), diagnosed PTSD, as well as diagnosed depression/anxiety and BPD. This would scare off many psychiatrists or psychologists because I am hard work. I go quiet for a long period of time and as with a lot of these disorders I have suffered with addiction problems which exacerbate the best of conditions and certainly exacerbate everything I have. I could not be more grateful or thankful.

I’ve missed appointments, which has wasted his time, and at times I thought he would discharge me because I felt unworthy and everybody else has kind of told me that I am far too hard work to be worthy, in a matter of speaking. Dr. Daniel actually does a very good job of building up my confidence and self-worth. I can’t go back in time and make right the mistakes I’ve made but at least going forward I have a psychiatrist and psychologist I can work with and bounce my sometimes very scary thoughts off, and to know that I will get a timely response. One time I was actually in a very dangerous situation where my ex threw me out in the middle of the night and had people come over to intimidate me...unbelievably, Dr. Daniel called me within moments of it happening and he really helped me through a sticky situation. What can I say? Thank you Dr. Daniel.

Length of Use: 6–12 months

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend

Pros and Cons

I qualified for discount/financial aid as I am unemployed and disabled

The amount of contact I have with my therapist via voice notes in particular

Journal suggestion prompts, e.g. “If my body could speak it would say” - great if you need inspiration

Amount of information I give my therapist and he remembers and keeps up with it, it feels great to be valued and remembered

Sometimes the video calls would have problems buffering because of my internet connection, we solved it by doing voice calls
