    BetterHelp

May take time to find the right therapist, but once you do it’s great

    • Length of Use: 6–12 months
    Overall Experience:

At first, I was very iffy about BetterHelp. My first two providers didn’t seem to have much experience and I didn’t find our sessions to be very helpful. I actually ended up quitting therapy because of this. However, after finding my third therapist on here, I have nothing but good things to say. After only 3 sessions, my therapist has helped me so so much and makes me so glad that I gave BetterHelp one more chance.

What I love about BetterHelp is that it’s similar to online dating. Once you’re matched with a therapist, you can book a video call or phone call session and if you don’t feel confident that they are the right therapist for you, you have the option to switch to another therapist immediately. You have the opportunity to keep cycling through providers until you find the one that’s right for you.

BetterHelp offers a 24-hour messaging option where you can message your therapist at any time. I love the video calls because I still get to see and talk to my therapist, but I get to do so in the comfort of my own home. BetterHelp also offers a variety of worksheets for your provider to send you based on what you are struggling with. These worksheets have helped me more than I ever imagined they offer very helpful, professional information.

Lastly, I love that BetterHelp lets you choose your preferences. For example, you can choose that you prefer an LGBTQ+ therapist, a therapist of color, a woman therapist, a therapist over the age of 40, a religious therapist, etc. I definitely recommend giving BetterHelp a shot if you’re looking for therapy.

    Pros and Cons:

    • The worksheets
    • 24-hour messaging option
    • Ability to cycle through providers
    • The time and effort it takes to find a therapist that’s right for you
    • The cost (unfortunately I may have to quit therapy due to the cost)
    • The inability to edit your age and other information when switching therapists

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
