Horrible experience

By Larry W., Greenville, TX, Verified Reviewer

We ended up buying a house that did not meet our primary reason for purchasing a home. We were told by the real estate agent that the HOA was all there to maintain the road. In reality, the HOA would not allow us to build a home for our mother in law. In addition, the real estate agent told us not to worry about the deficiencies in the inspection report and that the home warranty would cover it. There were many other issues but the bottom line we ended up having to sell the house. This experience cost us a lot of money, I would not recommend.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hi Larry,

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review, and we’re sorry to hear about your negative experience. Neither clients looking to buy or sell their home nor agents pay to be a part of our site. We match clients with 2 or 3 agents who are best suited for the clients' needs and location. We’re sorry that it didn’t work out with the agent you selected.

If you can send an email to support@homelight.com, we’ll look into it for you so that we can resolve the issue and improve your home selling and buying experience going forward!

What a scam

By Rajen S., Marshalltown, IA, Verified Reviewer

Contacted you to sell our home in Iowa, got no credit. Like a fool contacted you again to buy our next home in Summerfield, Florida. Again no credit.

When contacted you said to expect a gift card. Needless to say, that never came.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Careful

By Donald C., Texas, Verified Reviewer

I have been a Realtor for the past 28 years and decided to retire and move to another state. I could have found an agent by many methods but decided to try HomeLight. My agent not only was unethical, he was constantly steering me away from what I wanted to look at. I found what I wanted but because of my buyer agent agreement, I honored it through the purchase phase and closing. Not a good experience with this Realtor.

Hi Donald,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

We connect every client with 2 to 3 agents in order to give you the option to choose which agent you would like to work with overall. Nevertheless, we are very sorry to hear about the bad experience you had. We will look into the issue here and address it with the Realtor.

If you have any questions or additional feedback for us, please send an email to support@homelight.com. Thank you again for the review.

No agent support at all

By Eric S., Myrtle Beach, SC, Verified Reviewer

I am a REALTOR and the listing coordinator for our team. We have been working to set up the profile for our listing agent and team leader for a few weeks now, using the online information they provide. As we began uploading her transaction history we had questions.

We emailed support, several times, no response. Attempted to call the number on the website, next to the box that says they don't use robots, only real people. Well, if you select the help options for agents, a robot tells you to email support. I chose a different option not intended for agents and finally got someone. He didn't help the agents but offered to take my information, start a ticket, and have someone call back. After more than a week, that still hasn't happened. Our team manager did the same thing. Emailed support several times, called, got the same response and then no response.

We sent the requested transaction verification reports twice. We have been emailing them for over two weeks, I even tried to message them through Facebook and messaged the founder directly on Linkedin. We have not gotten a response.

I don't know if this works as a lead platform or not. It looks nice, but there is zero support. I have never had absolutely any response. Even the DMV in my home state responded to an email faster than this. Unless something changes, it has been nothing but a huge waste of time.

And yes, this review is meant to elicit a response. I don't like using these tactics, but it seems like this is the only place I am seeing responses.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hi Eric,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We sincerely apologize that it took a while for you to hear back from our team-- that's very unusual. I asked our support team to look into this, and they said everything was handled on 11/7. If there are any additional issues or concerns you have, please reach out to the support team again, and we can assure you a quick response this time! We look forward to working with you and your team!

Best,

Josh

Connecting with HomeLight

By RIchard B., Colorado, Verified Reviewer

All I can say is there has been no communication, follow up, diligence, or otherwise. From my initial conversation, I had wanted to work with HomeLight. Was told I qualified to be a part of their team and services. I have been given the run around by the staff about what I needed to do, and how I would qualify. Lori Pinkerton and Devon De Jesus have made no effort to follow through with me and have provided numerous excuses. These excuses include not being able to verify me and my sales history to technical issues with their engineering team. Very disappointed and I would not recommend their services.

Realtor missed the appointment without any notice

By Li L., Maryland, Verified Reviewer

I was in the process of interviewing real estate agents for listing one of my rental properties for sale, and came across HomeLight.com that recommends local real estate services. Casey contacted me promptly after receiving my potential listing information from HomeLight.com and connected me with Brian Meyers. I set up an appointment with Brian through text message and he confirmed the appointment. I took time off from work and showed up in their nice office on-time. However, Brian wasn't there for the appointment and I did not get any notice regarding him being absent for the appointment. The office staff found a junior agent happens to be in the office at the time and obviously was unprepared for the discussion of the potential listing of my specific property to meet me and he offered to talk to me in place of Brian. I was very upset and just left the office. I consider keeping an appointment with a potential client a basic courtesy and requirement for real estate professionals. The Re/Max Elite Services missed this mark terribly and lost my potential businesses for sure, and perhaps HomeLight machine learning algorithm should take customer satisfaction into consideration?

Poor and rude customer service

By Richard, Bethesda, MD, Verified Reviewer

I used HomeLight to find a local agent for my house. They matched me with two agents who I then subsequently "interviewed." When I determined that neither of the recommended agents were suitable, I called HomeLight and asked them to refer me to additional agents. However, they refused and told me that I had to use one of the two original referrals. The customer service rep then told me that if I don't find these agents suitable, then maybe HomeLight is not for me and then quickly hung up without explanation.

Overall, I find the experience to be inadequate and list of recommended agents way too thin compared to the vast number of very qualified and outside agents I know that are in my area, which is one of the hottest real estate market in the country.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Hi Richard,

I'm sorry to hear you have had anything less than a terrific experience so far. I can assure you that delivering outstanding customer service is one of our highest priorities here at HomeLight.

We try to match our clients with multiple agents in their area in order to help them execute the best strategy when it comes to buying or selling their home. If you're not happy or just aren't confident in your decision after speaking with the first couple of agents, then we are more than happy to get you connected with other top agents in your area.

I will try to reach out to you via phone over the next few days but if we do not connect, please feel free to reach out to me anytime via email at nicholas@homelight.com and I will assist in any way I can.

Best,

HomeLight Support

Warning: you will be spammed!

By Jeffrey D., Washington, Verified Reviewer

Despite their claims, you will receive unsolicited calls from agents. I was expecting to just evaluate realtors who have sold property in my area and narrow down the list to two or three agents that I would call, not the other way around. Within two minutes of registering on this site, I received three unsolicited calls. So if you are like me, and would rather be the one who makes the calls, then this service is not for you.

Hey Jeffrey,

Thanks for taking a moment to leave a review. Let me take a moment to explain how we work. Here at HomeLight, we are a concierge service that gets you in touch with agents in your area. We allow you to speak with them in order to determine if you want to work with them or view the other candidates. We understand this service isn't for everyone and that okay. Hope you have a great day!

Thanks,

HomeLight

Lots of talk, little performance

By John H., Horseshoe Bend, AR, Verified Reviewer

HomeLight attempts to dazzle comes up very short. This "benefit" made available through my employer who gave a shiny presentation on the surface but I was left less than satisfied.

They claim to kick back as much as $2500 cash after closing on your home purchase. As it turns out, you have to buy a house for 2.5 million to get that. If you buy for $100,000 you get a measly $100. Yes, $100 is nothing to really complain about but the way HomeLight goes about it is. There is not one single place on their website that up front that tells what this number is.

This wasn't the only disappointment from them. They also brag they put you in touch with top agents in the area you are shopping. The agent I dealt with was top notch but I think the connection was pure luck. Every other time I wanted an agent in a different area, they said I would get a call, never did, ever. I called over and over again to get some help but in the end, I should have just stopped thinking about the mystery money and worked on my own.

HomeLight got a cut of this sale and tossed me pennies. You are better off going on your own or trying to find someone more useful. I regret using them.

A bit pushy

By Jillian M., Citrus Heights, CA, Verified Reviewer

Honestly, if I hadn't found my agent through HomeLight, I would have found him through Zillow. He was a very good match for my needs of selling a house in Citrus Heights, California. I did like the fact that HomeLight had vetted all of the agents, as well.

In the beginning, I had a lot of issues because even though I had already connected with an agent, your service continued to suggest other agents and have them contact me. It was actually very annoying that so many people were contacting me.

The website was relatively easy to use. I don't like the fact that selling a house and buying a house seemed very, very separate on your website. I felt like I had to input all my information twice. I also felt like it was misrepresented as just an agent matching service when really you were pushing the option to sell my house to HomeLight directly.

Length of Use: Less than 3 months

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Sale of flip house

By Carl Mullin, The Villages, FL, Verified Reviewer

We used HomeLight to find a good "selling" realtor in the area of the house we just rehabbed. The Realtor we found through HomeLight sold the house in 6 weeks at an acceptable price. This allowed us to focus on the upcoming projects vs. the sales effort of the completed project.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this to a friend
