I see the reviews, I'm cancelling my trial this way...

By Raysa O., Tampa, FL, Verified Reviewer

I used PayPal to pay, so I went into my PayPal account (on the computer, not the phone) and selected the latest purchase from Noom (they charged me $1.00). There is a button towards the bottom right of the payment info that says "Report a Problem." It brought me to another page in PayPal that allowed me to select Subscription "Manage." There I was able to cancel any more payments from being drafted. Like canceling a subscription. So PayPal shouldn't allow any more payments to be deducted.

I also used the chat bubble to cancel with my coach (I was assigned a coach once I finished the 1st or 2nd-day activities in the app). No response yet, but in all fairness, I just wrote to them 10 minutes ago. It's a shame. I really like them.

Bottom Line: No, I would not recommend this to a friend

Beware!

By Daria D., San Diego, CA, Verified Reviewer

I signed up for a "trial" of Noon because I am serious about weight loss - I am prediabetic and must lose weight and cut down on carbs or I will get diabetes soon. I signed up for the $1 trial. Then I ended up signing on with an in-person dietician and did not use the Noom app whatsoever. Then I noticed a $129 charge on my credit card. I realized that I had forgotten to cancel Noon within the 14-day trial period. I then canceled with Noon and tried to dispute the charge with my credit card company, to no avail.

In my opinion, it should be illegal to convert a trial to a costly "service" (I received no service) without asking the card holder's permission or at least informing them. Although I am generally an ultra-responsible person, this has happened to me a few times with other companies, such as when they auto-renew a subscription I don't want after a year, and I have almost always received a refund after calling them. With Noon, there is no way to call them, and they will not deviate from their "no refunds" policy. Not an ethical business, in my view. Why do they need to steal people's money when the "customers" have received no services from them?

They're sneaky!

By Jenean K., Lee's Summit, MO, Verified Reviewer

I would NOT recommend. I signed up for the 14-day trial for $1. I didn't realize it was an automatic sign up for the program after 14 days. They hit my credit card for $129, which, in effect, is the cost for three months of their program. Now when I go to the website to cancel, I see they claim no refunds. This is how they get their money - a sneaky, vague "opt out" and then hit you for three months instead of one month. I've requested a refund, but just get automated responses. I won't get my money back, but I'll sure as heck give them negative reviews whenever and wherever I can.

Not worth the money

By Deborah M., New Jersey, Verified Reviewer

This is an ineffective program. Don't waste your money. I received an email saying I was a dedicated user and I barely logged anything or interacted with a coach. The coach would go days without contacting me. That's not great service in my mind. If I didn't respond, they would try once more but then stop. They didn't have any issue charging me for another 4 months. What a rip-off. I have requested a refund but am not optimistic. If the program is as great as advertised, they should offer a money back guarantee.

They keep billing me and I do not have an account

By Cathy B., Texas, Verified Reviewer

I canceled my account on 1/9/19. Received an email the next day reassuring me the account was closed and there would be no charges. Balance is zero. I keep getting bills from Noom. There is no phone to talk to a real person. You have to wait til they answer an email. The balance keeps growing. They are not helpful with this problem of a growing balance. When I log into the site it clearly states the account was closed on 1/10/2019. It also states I will not be charged. This is a trap and you cannot get out. I will resolve with my credit card company about the charges. BEWARE!

This was an extremely bad experience

By Helene L., Dublin, Ireland, Verified Reviewer

This was an extremely bad experience. Noom makes you pay during the 14-day trial, €59 for a Custom Meal Plan, and then the coaching team explained to me that Noom isn't a nutrition service but more a self-development/self-awareness (very expensive) application.

I have used the trial for 2 days only and since I contact the support team for an explanation and at least get what I paid for, they don't even answer. I moved on another great application name "Lose it!" it's clear, no hidden fees, same functionalities.

No 24/7 support, no customized plan...

By Laura S., Iowa, Verified Reviewer

What You Get With Your Noom Coaching Program

Fully Customized Plan

Unlimited Access To a Health Professional

24/7 Support

I have not received any of this. I keep asking my coach for things and she just wants to copy and paste the green list. I need a meal plan, I am not impressed at all yet. But I think it might work for me. Just need the help I was promised.

Run by bots without artificial intelligence

By Prerna A., Virginia, Verified Reviewer

Noom is run by what they think is cleverly designed bits. You can log only water and salt and still get congratulatory messages from the supposedly assigned coach (I am sure what that is about since it never answers anything) that builds a response based on your input. You could type in gibberish and it will just fill in the blanks with that I am sure. I did not try the typing gibberish part but I did try logging water.

Does not work for everyone.

By M L., Portland, OR, Verified Reviewer

Hey!

So as it turns out the reason for my low energy, gaining weight, and inability to eat healthy had nothing to do with "motivation" - and turns out that's the same for a LOT of women as they reach their thirties and up. After getting blood work back - turns out I got the dreaded thyroid issue that runs in my family AND had reactive hypoglycemia! So, in fact, limiting my calories could be detrimental - the key is listening to my body and getting on the right medications for my thyroid to increase energy. Noom essentially uses Cognitive Behavioral Therapy via an app to motivate the masses and ties in some theory about HOW you should eat (which I also highly disagree with, because as a vegan you may eat more carbs than others but you're supposed to - I saw others complaining about the food entry part and most reverted back to MyFitnessPal for food tracking as I did). It wasn't for me by a LONG shot. I think the app has a long way to go!

Do not sign up for the free trial!

By Kelly V., Florida, Verified Reviewer

I decided to check it out and do the 14-day FREE trial. Then I canceled after a week and took a screenshot of the cancellation confirmation. Guess what? It's not free. Then next thing I know they charged $1.00 to my credit card. I know that isn't much but it's the principal. I called my bank and told them this was fraud. After reading all of the horror stories about all of the people who were taken for much more I called the bank back right away and told then I needed a new credit card with different numbers so they could not charge my card in the future. I suggest everyone do this as I see that they charged people many months later when they were not expecting it. I hope one day that a class action suit is brought against this terrible Noom company. Obviously they are just out to take peoples money. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TRIAL!

Lack of ongoing access (1 year paid membership)

By Kate D., Ontario, Canada, Verified Reviewer

During the trial, I was incredibly impressed with the support from my goal specialist and the information in the daily learnings. However, as soon as I joined (paying in full for a one-year membership), my goal specialist sent little more than "Hey! Just checking in!" messages. I was initially connected to a group. I did inform my goal specialist that I would be on holiday. However, during that time my group access was revoked and not reinstated for almost six months. This app is not designed for travelers or anybody with an irregular schedule. The app works on a punishment system of sorts - the removal of benefits and failure to resolve issues professionally and within a reasonable time limit (almost six months, in my case, connecting with multiple people on the app itself and via email).
